  1. Did anybody watch Kill It, Cook It, Eat Iton BBC 3 the other night? It discussed a lot of the issues raised here regarding animal cruelty in food production. Very telling though was when they interviewed the farmers who raised the Kid Goats. They couldn't make up their minds on whether they were rearing the Kids in a "happy" environment for the animals benefit or for commercial reasons. It seemed they wouldn't slaughter a Kid under 3 months because they wanted it to have a nice life but then again if a customer wanted a younger one for a Greek Wedding then it was OK. And there is the paradox. Commercial food production versus the demands of customers. Twenty years ago people new little or nothing about battery farms etc. Then when the truth was exposed via programmes like Pandora's box the public (with increasing disposable income) began to take notice. The WRONG reaction is to instantly become vegetarian (in my view) but instead to be choosy (like Muttley, Woody etc) and force commerce to change or go out of business. We live in a Capitalist society so profit is the best weapon at our disposal. Don't eat ANY meat unless you know its provenance. Eat less meat but better quality. Unfortunately the victims of this success will be the very people already providing us with meat that has been properly reared, such as WR and Libretto's, because the supermarkets and their suppliers will respond once the balance tips towards battery farming becoming very bad for business. I hope that's not the case.
  2. That's verging on the oleaginous!
  3. Nice one Annasfield. It's such common practice though, I wonder whether the note on file really has any teeth or perhaps Cabbies rely on punters not bothering to make a complaint (as in my case).

  7. I swear by mine. It beats carrying around a stack of paper that invariably gets lost. Just make sure you sync it with your pc or at the very least back up on an SD memory card.

oleaginous!! What a delicious word. You can almost drizzle it over pasta. Must find ways of using it an a sentence. 'Scuse me guv, this bacon butty's a bit oleaginous!
  12. I did and it came out at 1.1 miles.
  13. My inspiration was Don McCullin as a kid in the early seventies coming across his work in a Sunday Supplement. The shock, power and directness of his imagery got me hooked.
  14. Totall agree Sean, I was talking post inception. Most writers/creators just want to tell a good story or simply entertain. It's once it gets sucked up by the likes of Sony, BMG, TimeWarner etc that it becomes a different animal. That's why independent stuff is generally so much more appealing because it's become less corrupted on its journey from creation to delivery.
  15. Like some others before me I've been with FD since their inception over 15 years ago (attracted by the free blk leather chq bk holder). Without wanting to repeat everything above I'll just echo the positive sentiments already mentioned. However, big drawback has been the lack of any personal relationship with a manager that you could've had in the old days. Yes they have all your stats and banking history at their fingertips but it's not quite the same when you're trying to arrange some financial coverage that's a little out of the ordinary.
  16. I agree the format is pretty naff but if you look beyond it I think it's interesting. I only caught the last half so I'll reserve full judgement till next week. I've noticed an increase in photo related TV programming lately (documentarys, historical, biographical) so maybe it's just part of that trend. It'll be PhotoFactor and Come Clicking next!
  17. If you're in the business of making films then (generally speaking) you want to maximise distribution and hence profit. With that in mind the film is normally aimed at a specific group of people. Gay films, childrens films, chick flicks etc. Doesn't mean people or genders can't cross over. Same applies to music, books etc. I don't think Char1ie was trying to be sexist but I suspect he's from the meeja world and simply used some jargon.

  24. Apparently, on average, we waste a third of all the food we buy. So should we buy a third less or just give it away?
