  1. I can't stop singing "Let me roll it to you" now.
  2. At least there's a precedent for having a plague pit at Goose Green.
  3. I will try and put in my annual visit.
  4. With regard to apostrophes she is right, but she is very sloppy on other stuff (eg, starting sentences with conjunctions). That's fine in everyday use and particularly on a forum like this, but to use it in a grammar book is very irritating. To save this from the lounge, well done Toby for responding.
  5. You wanted onslaught James, here it comes: how can you hold up Truss as an arbiter of good grammar? I flung the book away, unfinished, in disgust.
  6. Cocktails for breakfast - yum.
  7. Happily handbags were invented for swiping at cyclists who run the lights at pedestrian crossings.
  8. Maybe we could discuss the parlous state of education instead?
  9. p for peckham
  10. Tony - from the original post:
  11. "It only takes an objective observer to notice this." At least they teach us not to split infinitives!
  12. When I'm calling you - Jeanette MacDonald & Nelson Eddy
  13. Shucks guys.
  14. I spent this morning helping a friend clear out her spare room so she can let it. She is 64, has temped as a telephonist at Lehman's for a long time (didn't accept a permanent position due to her late husband going in and out of hospital) and has no prospect of another job. Her immediate supervisor asked the telephonists to stay on but they had no briefing; 'phones were going 19 to the dozen from the media, and no head honchos in sight. All a bit pants for her.
  15. Ah well, a girl can dream!
  16. farewell to brilliance
  17. No, the old dears can't afford it. Unless it's now a crime to wear two pairs of Damarts and three sweaters.
  18. Darling Declan Long time, no sparring. David really is a lovely chap, you just haven't been introduced properly: Declan, may I present David who has an interesting line in tweeds. David, this is Declan who as a Lions supporter, is a man of unparalleled taste.
  19. Here you go CitizenEd start at the very beginning ...
  20. Ooh no D_C. How could I take anyone seriously who dresses like Benny from Crossroads?
  21. Go Now - Moody Blues
  22. First I've heard of it - what are the details?
  23. Not sure about that one Cit.Ed. Could imagine getting quite restless at a concert, but ok as background stuff. C+ - could do better!
