Energy Saving initiative includes East Dulwich
bil replied to Sue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thank you Sue for the tip. We are getting our loft insulated for free and are getting a reduced rate for a loft hatch and ladder installation. I have been meaning to sort this out for some time now and this has saved me a good sum of money. Thanks again. -
We went to the top of Dawsons hill last night to see in the New Year. We thought we would be the only ones there but there was a grand turnout with sparklers, drinks and general excitement. There was even a family who had set up a little picnic. Anyway the views were incredible with the London eye fireworks being the centrepiece and lots of other firework displays across the rest of the skyline. It's so difficult to describe and give it justice. Just wanted to let you know for next year and the future. our original plans fell through last minute but it was so worth it. Happy New Year :)-D

I've always like that house on the corner opposite the Mag; it has so much character...I hope that nobody was hurt or seriously injured (if the driver was ok what about the people inside the property?)

Does your water pressure drop between 7am-9am?
bil replied to bil's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It is unacceptable that we pay ?45 pcm to Thames water can't have a warm decent shower before we go to work (unless we get up before 7am or go to work after 9am) I complained to the water council today but they were not particularly helpful. I insisted that they log my complaint and give me a reference but they have asked me to write a formal complaint to Thames Water If any of you would like to make a complaint to Thames Water please e-mail [email protected] I have sent my complaint and asked for someone to check my water pressure in the morning. I agree with Oily in that if we make a collective effort, hopefully Thames water will take this seriously. Cheers -
Hi, I would also like to recommend Steve (d.g.services) for garden work. He painted our fence, cleared the garden and Ivy at the front of the house. He worked with a colleague Kate and they completed the work within the day and their quote was very reasonable. I will definitely be using them again in the near future. Have a good weekend(tu)

I will make a complant to the water council. I have a direct water supply to my house & this early morning water drip. I havent paid for a plumber to test the pressures a 7am though. It's bizarre, for some reason i always move to hilly areas (probably attractd by views) but have never experienced this kind of problem. I hate early mornings ( i dont have kids..yet) so getting up 30 mins earlier than i would like really sucks. -
405 Lordship Lane - what is it all about?
bil replied to Mrs TP's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The ladies were very friendly and present. I really like the look of the shop sign too; very funky -
just went to Homemade; the carrot cake was yum but the one at La gastrononmia is even better. Btw why is food in ED so expensive. I recently went to a great gastropub for lunch in Cannonbury (The cannonbury). It was busy, the service was excellent and the portions were massive and delicious. The price was the equivalent of that offered in ED but the overall value was far greater. or i can pay ?7 for salad and quiche in ED

It depends on the shade of your red carpet but I think a green would be warm e.g. ball green, stone white or vert de terre (farrow & ball) or something similar...then use white, gold or black glossy accessories to add contrast...I am guessing you don't want your hall to be too dark.

Repair to lacquer on chest of draws- advice and/or recommendations
bil replied to bil's topic in The Lounge
Thank you. It's not an antique; I bought it on sale from Lombok so paying alot for it to be repaired might cost more than replacing it. I agree that I won't be able to remove it myself and I suspect the whole surface will need stripping and re-lacquering. -
Hi We recently had a spillage (Reed diffuser liquid) onto our chest of draws and the lacquer is damaged. The chest of drawers is "oriental" style with a distressed effect. A glass tealight holder is actually stuck onto the surface. Does anybody have any suggestions as to how it can be repaired (and remove the candle holder)? whether it can be repaired or who could repair it? Many thanks

i have never been to homemade before; but will do soon

I agree that transport is the main issue and I think that is reflected in the house prices. When we were looking to buy- none of the Dulwich estate properties even came into our internet searches because they were out of our price range (I assumed that none of them were on the market but now realise I was so wrong!) i just looked up dulwich estate- court lane gardens is part of it but not court lane, 50-58 Townley road are also included...the estate has part of some roads and not of others... i am intrigued.

Best of both worlds are gained from living in SE22 part of dulwich village - woodwarde, dovercourt etc (for proximity to dulwich park, east dulwich shops and north dulwich & herne hill station- which has fast train to victoria-which is excellent) or SE24 part (close to herne hill station and nice shops and dulwich park).. where i live is ED is great -near dulwich park and only 10 mins walk into main LL but bus service is poor and is a real disadvantage. There is no direct bus route to herne hill or the village and the P13 bus is very infrequent (to get towards the village) . LL is the real gem of ED and I guess you could partly include Bellenden and Peckham rye park/common. ED station links are average. Denmark hill/peckham rye stations are more useful but it takes a good 15-30 mins to get there from upper part of LL...

I think court lane bumps are worse than those at Dunstans. I live on Dunstans and have never thought they were a problem (except for when I park on one-parking on the hump can make you feel slightly disorientated from kerb). The only times I have heard scraping is when lorries and vans drive over them at over 30mph. In any case I couldn't face the road being dug up again!

wow I didn't realise that TFL ever cared to ask what the users of their services need...no doubt it will be ignored in any case.

Yes I agree, u don't have to love it but it offers an innovative use of and gives a relatively aesthetic appearance to what would otherwise be a dump site or disused ugly area. Unfortunately all housing is expensive these days but it appears that the asking price is slightly higher than average for a 4 bed house with osp and garden in this area. So many new builds are bland, boring and of poor quality with impractical room sizes are and zero green credentials. These new houses are better than average.

37 Bus Route - good and bad comments please
bil replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Ditto with above comments; the service is too infrequent (as indeed are many of the bus services in ED) I often have to wait 15-20 minutes for a bus. It makes it difficult to connect with train times. -

Not only does 300 Lordship lane site look interesting but the plans offer living space that is suitable for a family. The houses have 2 receptions and 4 beds..the flats appear spacious and most have some outdoor space. I don't know what the current site looks like but I imagine that it must be an eyesore. On my road, which is dunstans road, there are some disused garages but I don't suspect the plot is large enough for a residence. with regards to the Dunstans road site; I wonder what we will be able to see from the road..I am so nosy and would love to have a look at the finished houses..
