Overloaded with election-related literature?

My husband was told (by a member of the lib dem team, at the door) that a vote for conservatives would be a vote for labour and that the conservatives do not stand a chance of winning the Dul & west Nor seat. We assumed that this was true but then similar to Dulwichresident i did some research on the internet and saw that the conservatives could be in the race. the lib dems have done a good job in ED so they already had our vote but they shouldn't mislead us. my recycling bag is filling up with all of the mail. My bulk is Lib dem and labour. -
So was she unfairly dismissed? was she negligent in her role and directly responsible for the failure of the department to prevent baby Peters death? She was partly responsible for the failure of the Haringey Social services. Ed Balls was ultimately responsible. It was the government- who has failed these beautiful children and have made the social services department the scapegoat. If you don't have the resources to do your job well; how can you be blamed for the inevitable failure? I work for the NHS and have worked closely with social services for many years. They are so stretched and fight constantly to try to do a difficult job under suboptimal conditions. There aren't enough social workers, paperwork is substantial with increasing bureaucracy, lack of support, an overwhelming number of cases and limited funds. (These problems are not confined to social work, all over the NHS are thousands of employees are struggling with low morale, stress, lack of resources, trying to do their job to the best of their ability and under difficult conditions-but that is another debate) That's not to say that she wasn't accountable for the failings of the department and I think that she should have resigned from her post. I don't believe that she would ever have wanted a child to have been harmed under her authority. She must have been suffering everyday since this has happened. What an incredible burden for one person to bear.

there are parking bays (free parking for a short period of time- i think 30 mins) on the high street on mon, tues, thurs, fri and sun (i.e. when market is closed) there is also a large car park behind the swimming pool wavelengths and also a car park on frankham street -all of these areas are half a minute walk to the market and high st

I had an easyjet flight booked for friday. I knew that Gatwick airport was closed on friday (so I didn't go) but I didn't get an e-mail from easyjet confirming my cancelled flight until 2 hrs after my flight should have taken off. They had cancelled the outward journey but the inward journey (2 days later) had not been cancelled-so they were not offering to refund that one at the time! They also confirmed the return flight was cancelled 2 hrs after it was due to have left. i have applied for my refund and am waiting

merging of services between Southwark and Lambeth Councils
bil replied to Pugwash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Let's hope (ensure) Labour don't gain control of Southwark then. -
The French government supports families. They encourage families to have more children by giving substantial tax relief and also allowances. Therefore both parents don't have to work to support a family and can still be very comfortable. Together with more bank holidays, discounts on travel on public transport, childcare and amenities for larger families; makes for a better quality of life (for those who have family).

I haven't forgotten what Gordon brown and labour have done to this country in recent years!

It does look so bizarre though. One random (pretty crap) car on the pavement outside a shop on a narrowish pavement (can't remember what was being sold -i have been past a few times). It isn't a car lot and i don't think the car being there is going to make it sell faster. can you imagine if other shops did the same? I don't think it has anything to do with "poshness" though. Even if it was a mclaren or ferrari, it would be inappropriate parked there. Actually a ferrari would be larger and would encroach on the pavement.

lol! unfortunately my flight was cancelled...but will still have a good weekend ( and hopefully get a refund)

is the gym equipment similar to the one in peckham rye parK? If the weather is good tomorrow i shall swing by

Is funding earmarked for these improvements? The proposals are adequate and sound achievable with the right resources. The lighting is poor on the lane. Keeping the area well lit, clean and looking appealing would be my main wishes. If the funding was available, could some of the elements of Bellenden regeneration e.g. street lamps etc be replicated on the high street? Deptford high street/town centre has planned station redevelopment, a new square and has some art galleries and cafes but still has a number of African, vietnamese, English grocery shops. It is similar to Rye lane in many of its characteristics. some possible ideas... http://www.lewisham.gov.uk/Environment/Regeneration/DeptfordAndNewCross/DeptfordTownCentre/

In response to : "if you really knew the cost of providing healthcare". I am sorry, I didn't mean to patronise. I even know the cost figures myself.

These payments are not acceptable to vulnerable or housebound patients who need to call their GP for help-these people could be deterred from calling their GP and for this reason I disagree with the charges. However, I am not sure how many people making the comments on this thread fall into that category. If you can afford to pay for an i-pod, annual holidays, pets insurance, ?1.50 for a coffee at a cafe or go the delis, boutique shops in ED etc then is it so bad to pay a few pounds to your local GP practice which is probably resource stretched e.g. restricted funding, large population sizes, probably understaffed. Money that could possibly contribute to fund repairs or an extra nurse or receptionist to deal with all of the non-emergencies (If this is generating an income one should hope that it is used to improve the running of the practice). I don't know whether the income is enough for a profit or just to help with running costs. Many GP practices don't use these numbers probably (and correctly) on moral grounds. People are increasingly demanding more of the NHS but don't want to pay for it. Yes I know we all pay NI but if you really knew the cost of providing healthcare, you would know that our contributions are a drop in the ocean.

Mamora Man: I like your thinking. OS map and compass; the tried and tested way. I was going to try google earth because using aerial view on multi and google maps hasn't been very successful. Did you build your roof terrace or was it already in place? does anyone else on your road have one? wjfox: pictures are great and the photoshop map is ace. I know the salvation army building is brown with a tower and looks a little bit like the baltic gallery in newcastle. so I think dome temple building is probably dulwich hospital (saw picture on flickr) The views are never boring and can be seen from dawsons hill if anyone hasn't seen them before. hopefully i will win the lottery and build my roof terrace ...one day. i am looking forward to seeing the Shard grow in size. i will also try to identify it over the weekend.

1. Does anyone have a roof terrace in ED? has anyone encountered problems trying to get planning for one? In the future I would like to have one because the views from the back of my house, over central London, are incredible. 2. For all those that also have the same views (some will be better than mine) I have been trying to decipher the landmarks as some are easier to identify than others..what is the temple-like building with blue/grey domes? (I think it is near denmark or dog kennel hill but not sure) and a large vicorian estate with red roof tops near the Strata in elephant and castle. I can identify tower bridge, houses of parliament & big ben, wembley arch, city hall, BT tower, millenium wheel, gherkin, strata...can a can't see greenwich dome or canary wharf from my window. what else can people see?

I was thinking the same just the other day. Whole foods would be great (and i would still like an M&S-nearest one is in brixton, lewisham or greenwich)

there are a few threads about this incident -chinese whispers so far. No one actually knows what happened.

going to vauxhall or elephant from LL, so train is likely to be longer and no scenic walking routes from S London (unless there is one i am not aware of). bus 40, 176 or 185 will get me there nicely. It has been so long since i used the bus but the views of (and into) buildings, shops & gardens (and even some homes-alot of people don't use privacy blinds/nets/blinds) is something i don't get to see when driving and concentrating on the road. I feel like i have been missing the sparkle of London by using my car. I literally go from A to Z without looking at anything in between. having said that are there any quicker routes that can be suggested from ED to vauxhall or elephant & castle? thanks Bil

Good morning all Thank you for the advice. Avoid bus 12, I will only need to take one bus and, like muffins78, am looking forward to relaxing (preferably in a seat), reading a newspaper and listening to music . I think I will run back though. I used to cycle for many years and personally think the roads are way too busy (especially as i drive down these back roads myself). Once you get past LL it is bus lane all the way and i think my journey to work will only be 20-30 mins (depending on how long it takes for the bus to come). However, I need to leave 45 mins for my car journey to work so that I get in on time anyway. Ratty: when you say mobile phone music-do you mean people listening on their mobile/ipods with earphones ? or people, usually school children, "kindly" sharing their (in my opinion) crap music with their friends (and other passengers) at a loud volume?

Dear all I am considering leaving my beloved car at home to take the bus to work. I haven't used the bus in 2 years but recently used it a couple of times and the experience is much better than i remember. Besides with all the road humps, in my little car, my 20-30 minute journey is uncomfortable and tiring. AND it takes the same amount of time by bus (because of the bus lanes, which as a driver I abhor, but obviously appreciated when I "zoomed" by on the bus) Anyway my questions are to those who have experience of using bus routes 185, 176, 12, 40 from dulwich library/plough area. During rush hour are the buses very crowded? Do you have to let 1,2 or 3 pass by before you can get on? Are they frequent enough to be able to do that? Is your general experience good? Much appreciated

Labour "Action Team" East Dulwich Village Ward - (Lounged)

Please stop attacking Martin :( -
if it was a mistake, he would (or should) have apologised and explained his mistake. Instead he left muffins78 stunned and feeling violated. No long term damage may have arisen (i hope) but i think it is still serious incident and unlikely to be an accident.

i'm sorry this happened to you. Please don't feel guilty at your reaction; you were shocked, i would be. Thanks for letting us know. please report it though as it is a sexual assault.
