CMG - you misread my post, i never said 'all gypsies hail from the circus'. Of course they are by definition 'travelers' and of course travelers by definition can be called Gypsies. Haringey Council information on 'Gypsies': Brief history and background to Traveller communities. ?Traveller?/'Gypsies' is an umbrella term covering many distinct communities, including Fairground or Showmen, Gypsies/Romany, Roma, Circus families, Irish Travellers, New (Age) Travellers and Bargee Travellers, those living on the waterways. Gypsies are defined as an ethnic minority group by the Race Relations Act (1976) as their home lifestyle is significantly different to that of the majority settled community. More recently, Irish Travellers have also been determined as being covered by that Act. The term ?Traveller? is generally acceptable to most of these groups, although the term ?Gypsy? is acceptable to only some communities, as they are concerned that the settled community can perceive it as having negative connotations.

Please feel free to park in my road which is very close and would mean your poor legs wouldn't have to walk too far :( I fully support the extension and the pedestrianisation, it's a fantastic asset to ED and i love nothing better than wondering through the stalls with the family meeting other friend etc at the weekend. ^excellent post Dulwichmum. I just cant understand what it is that appeals to Cate when there is sooo much more around us than Elephant. A colleague of mine has lived there all her life and despises the place...and the poxy market! Maybe it's some sort of patronising charity cause?? Fact is it's a shit-hole of a place that without question, the majority of those who live admit too.

As i've already mentioned on another thread, the real problem is that it run by Pikies. And the problem with Pikies aside from them rudely trying to flog kitchen towels and clothes pegs door to door. Is that they are also liars as proved by our friends above...

Cate, with all due respect. I can assure you i will always see Elephant as a dive. There are a thousand better places to go in Londons famous London IMO.

I haven't paid out top Dollar to live in East Dulwich to then waste a good afternoon in the dive that is Elephant looking for sausages :-S

I wasn't apologizing. I was questioning why you felt the need to wade in with a negative statement such as yours i quoted. In my opinion, you came across as the one looking for a fight. My earlier post was simply putting my two pence worth into the thread. You are allowed to disagree with my opinion, that is your right.
