So tell us James why southwark lib dems are opposing Southwark Labour's proposals that cut councillors allowances by ?100k? And 9 million is just 2.8 per cent is of the total annual budget for Southwark......and it seems sensible to have some contingency money to me (after all it is not money that is disappearing into some black hole never to be seen again)...but seeing as you seem to think it's such a big deal I'll ask my labour councilliors for the reasoning behind it. Whereas 100 million spent on a call centre that only handles around 20% of calls to the council and it services was never a waste of public money was it James? ;)

Suspicious activity in Crawthew Grove this morning
DJKillaQueen replied to MDP's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
You can call the nearest station direct for non emergency calls that may require attendance. Every main Police Station has a direct line where operators are on duty 24/7 - you don't have to refer to the SNT for all non 999 calls. -
I actually live near Welland House. I know very well the background to the Barry Road shooting, was at home on the evening of the shooting on the stairway of Welland. Knew the people who were involved, the Peckham Boys involvement and knew of the police surveilance op of them prior to the Barry Road shooting and I'll stop there. I've lived as an adult in the area for 24 years and don't really need a history lesson. They point is that these gangs do exist and certainly where I live we do everything we can as a community with regular liasion with the Police, Council and youth offending services to prevent gang activity taking any kind of hold on our neighbourhood.

You are having a different debate to me. If you read my posts I was talking about the genre of rap music. This is the genre these kids are interested in. My first posts in fact were arguing that the music they are making is rubbish and I said why I think that music to be rubbish within it's genre. The discussion then went on to look at how young teenage thugs are using that genre as an extension of their image. Yes violence has been protrayed in music but rap and hip hip is a genre that has relied primarily on those themes (unlike other genres) and constantly explores a level of voilent language not seen in any other genre. Now does that in turn make teenagers into thugs might the question you are trying to answer? My view on that is that it is niaive to think that exposure to violence has no impact on young people. But there's little that can be done about that with global media and it's very difficult to measure.

:)) nice one bob lol.

MP you are so full of yourself sometimes.....high horses are for the truly condascending I'm afraid nor do you speak for any majority.
-
I have plenty of insight actually so maybe that's the problem. I prefer though not to resort to semantics when I haven't got anything of substance to say about the real point of the debate.
-
The problem with a lot of these kids today making this kind of music.....does that help? Because I really can't understand what on earth the issue is with that statement. But then hey, we only run youth clubs and programmes through my TRA and work with the Police and youth services to do what we can to keep kids away from crime and carrying knives (and not always successfully because half of them are on probation) so what do I know about those kinds of young people?
-
Oh C'mon Elvis is not comparable to ganster rap. You are right Otto, many of these kids are rapping about something they'll never do but how sad that they only way they think they can look tough is by singing about killing and bullying people. There are though several real teenage gangs, who are involved with crime, that are making this kind of music too. Social media has made it possible for these gangs to be organised and recruit through fear. It's a layer that many adults don't see but if you are a teenager in many parts of South London (and elsewhere) you will be fully aware of who the local organised gang (or group of bullies as I prefer to call them) are. You will also be aeware that they'll steal your phone and will probably be carrying knives. And yes there have always been bullies and teenage theives but not on the level there are today, nor in the level of violence they are prepared to use. And some will grow out of it and others won't.

Exactly right Ultraburner.
-
And you Otta have no idea what you are taking about either. How many members of So Solid Crew ended up in prison for example???? Sure some kids are just making music, others though are making music as an extension to their so called 'gang lifestyle'. And anyway......I think any kid that thinks there any merit in making music about killing and robbing people needs their head testing.

Yes.

The thing about good hip hop artists is that they write about stuff that is real. Most of the pre 90's rap coming out of detroit, chicago, new york and LA emerged from those growing up in neighbourhoods where decent healthcare, education, housing etc wasn't available to them. Where the Police daily harassed the occupants of those neighbourhoods with little care for the rights of those people and where drugs and violent crime were the only option it seemed to many young men there. Even post 80's, when Eminem wrote about 8 mile he was writing about the place he grew up in. The problem with a lot of these kids today is that they are emulating not creating. They have plenty of opportunity to stay away from drugs and crime. They are not deprived of good health care or education. In turn what they rap about is the kind of fantasy that many with low self-esteem seem to rap about....how tough they are, and how much crime they can do, and how far they'll go to bully you into having repsect for their talentless little asses. None of them are JayZ, Dizzee Rascal or Plan B and never will be.

Try this line Horsebox! 'When I see a light skinned face I'm gonna break that' His heart is the right place LD buts Giggs album is musically boring. His follow up mixtape is even more musically boring.
-
Giggs may be a sucessful musician but his music is rubbish and way over-rated.. He's not even close to the best hip hop and rap artists at the moment. His latest mixtape is free to download for a reason. Compare that to the latest mixtape from Manchester based RIO and Stylus (who write about the same stuff as Giggs). You can soon see who have the talent and it's not Giggs.

Sadly I understand every line (I listen to a lot of hip hop) and the song is deeply anti-white racist and has the general message that doing time is no big deal. Nothing intelligent about these guys at all. bsand Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > LOL > Comin right back at you - can anybody translate > what the Crew are saying ... > > >

Oooh you should see my footie ladies when they get into a pm conversation....easily can surpas 150 pms in a day lol. Seriously though....any limit that admin deems necessary is fine. People just need a warning period so that those who haven't been keeping on top of their inboxes can adjust.
-
Many Thanks Admin - it is very much appreciated (tu)
-
No one is disagreeing with limiting the number just asking where was the logic in not forwarning people to clear their inboxes so they could still receive pms.
-
I copy any pms I want to keep to elsewhere but the size of the storage has been cut by so much (from 1500 pms I think to 300) that many people have been caught out, which is kind of what you might expect to happen with no prior warning. As for what a pm is...it's a private message...not just for taking a discussion off-line but for for sending out information or taking enquiries or doing any of the things the various forum sections allow forumites to do (exactly as Sue points out). A victim of it's own success perhaps :)
-
Also I'm finding it impossible to send group pms to my footy team as half of them don't know that new storage limits have come in and their inboxes are full. I'm texting those I can but some advance warning might have helped us all to prepared for the changeover when it came.

Peckham Rye Park Mugging
DJKillaQueen replied to starlingsrest's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The Peckham Rye SNT have been targetting teenage robbery around the skateboard park for several months with good success. Robbery and other types of crime tend to increase with warmer waether but the audacity of dayight robbery is alarming, although it sounds as though the same group might be responsible for several robberies and attempted robberies. The SNT Ward Panel Meeting on Thursday is the ideal place to raise this and judging by the excellent response of Sergeant Neil Cooke and his team in the past the same can be expected again I'm sure.
