  1. It's partly because of fuel poverty and rising essential costs (especially rents). People are far too quick to attack those without employment for example but as you rightly say many low waged people in full employment are dependent of some kind of benefit just to make ends meet. And much has been written about the plight of pensioners and rising fuel costs. More importantly...if you've never been in that situation - or have known someone on a day to day basis in that situation, you can't know how difficult and demoralising it is to get yourself out of it. It's very easy for those who have everything to think they know how to solve these issues but at the end of the day they are not dealing with the individuals on the ground level. And many of the warnings and appeals by charities to policy makers fall on deaf ears.
  2. But there are people unable to afford to eat properly in this country. Ask any of the charities that supply food and they'll tell you they are seeing a threefold increase in the number of people and families being referred to them.
  3. Well I don't have any pride in a history stained by the proceeds of slavery, which incidentally paid for many of the grand buildings we so gleefully sell to tourists. Patriotism doesn't begin and end with the Royal Family I'm afraid.
  4. He's been dead for years.
  5. Surely the owner gets woken up by it too...otherwise what is the point?
  6. Poverty is relative because it relates to the cost of living in any particular country, but that might also be better described as hardship as well in wealthier countries. Things are tolerated in poorer countries that wouldn't be tolerated in wealthier countries....like shanty towns for example...because people have to do what they can to survive.
  7. Aye....her support of a footy team that sports a red strip is more than just coincidental.
  8. HA HA HA HA.....brilliant and shot in Nunhead Cemetary too...don't let the children watch.
  9. I'm still wondering if I can get away with a ripped t-shirt held together by safety pins with 'Don't Stand So Close To Me' emblazoned accross the fornt of it!
  10. So you think the Police, Rats and Dire Straights were Punk bands do you wallpaperhead? And the peak years of punk were when? Police released their fitst Album in 1978. Their first chart success was in 1979 with Roxanne and they are regarded to be a New Wave band not Punk. Do I need to similarly educate you on the Rats and Dire Straights?
  11. PC World is fine if you know what you want. They do some great deals on some things. BUT I would never advise anyone goes there for PC advise or repair. I've lost count of the number of times I've seen customers given the wrong advice at the technical desk before being charged a ridiculous amount. PC repair at PC world is 'take the laziest route possible' even if that means someone loses all their (easily retrievable data) because they tell them that a reformat is the only option. My most classic tale was being served by what looked like a 14 year old (at the reapir desk) who had never heard of a scsi drive or cable - I mean isn't that day one of an IT course????? I took him to his own stock counters and embarassed him proper.
  12. I wonder just what kind of 'intelligence' they were acting upon then and what legislation they used. I don't think dressing like squatter quite cuts it.
  13. LOL now this looks it's going to be my type of thread.... Nothing endorses my indignation at the lot of them more than Sarah Fergusen. Any of us with that level of debt would be forced into brankruptcy...lose our homes and any posessions of value. Please someone tell me...what is her secret? How does she manage to keep living in that level of luxury?
  14. And greywallpaper sounds like a troll...here's a clue...no person old enough to live through the punk years would be found dead writing like a fourteen year old teen on a mobile phone....and yeah the punk era was also the 70's not the 80's *cough* so not a bright troll either......
  15. lol me too, especially if free food is involved.
  16. Exactly Jah! Turning up to an event is hardly work is it.
  17. Yeah but Kate has chosen that for herself. And apparently she is already pregnant. I don't care what jobs the Royals do. Millions of people work harder and get little in return for it. A Royal will never go hungry or lose their home if they don't work (like many with disgusting amounts of money and privilege). They are just not on the same planet as the rest of us.
  18. It takes two to tango though......can't put it all on Imogen..... So is it Michael Owen or Ryan Giggs then?
  19. Greywallpaper...People who receive JSA are required to prove they are looking for work. Seeing as you are such an expert on employment.....how do you find jobs for people in cities where the number of unemployed vastly outnumbers the number of vacancies? You can't spell but maybe your maths is basic enough to realise that we don't have enough jobs for the millions of people unemployed......so yeah lets leave them to starve and steal....great idea. Back on topic.....the Royals have more than a bit of fun. They get to stuff themselves with the best food, holiday in the best resorts, wear the best clothes and all without having done anything to earn it, i.e. by luck of birth. Joe Bloggs, born into poverty and struggling to find a job though, is scum in your eyes......is it only me that can see the contradiction in your argument?
  20. Jermaine Dafoe....ooops I said it!!!!
  21. But it's not just the Queen though is it? And monarchy is symbolic of everything that is wrong with inequality and subjegation in a society - the 'establishment' is a direct manifestation from monarchy for example. So no ayresc I am not enamored by a group of people 'born' into royalty and I certainly don't evny them either. There are millions of people who have nothing, and do far more good around the world and sometimes give up everything to do so. My role models are those people and not the pampered and ever so comfortable Royal family who on the whole have everything, and give up very little comparatively.
  22. HA HA...I wish.... If I'd have been in any kind of line to the throne I'd have squirreled money away in some off-shore account or Switzerland and then faked my own disappearance....oh wait...didn't a certain Mr Lucan do that already?
  23. Oh but they do have the freedom to leave it. William doesn't have to become King, nor does he have to do anything he doesn't want to. It's a complete myth that they (or anyone for that mattter) are somehow trapped and have no control over their privilege.
  24. I would second that.
