It's not unusual for a council or a company to check that their material is being delivered. They pay for the deliveries so there's an interest in making sure they are delivered. The Hi-Viz jackets are what sound strange to me. Did the hi-viz jackets have Southwark Council written on them? And did they have ID. If they were legit they certainly would have had ID. Best to call Southwark Council to confirm if they had anyone in the area today. Also what were they asking you to sign? Did you read it?

That's correct - we have a youth orientated labour market (and usually because too many employers don't value experience nor want to pay for it). We have also, too many people reliant on state support and not enough people working to pay for it. This is why I can't understand why successive governments aren't more concerned with regeneration than they have been - although tbf New Labour were better on this than the previous Thatcher government. However did we get into a position where 25% of 16-24 years olds are unemployed ffs?

Yes and for many fifty somethings and over, it will be the last time they'll find full time work. Heartbreaking.

I'm voting yes too and am completely with Huguenot on this, and those that rightly say this is the last chance for electoral reform in our lifetime.

I really don't care when he died, if he died, or how he died, and I agree with MP that in all instances it's hard to see what benefit could be gained. My view is that by propelling the myth that the bogeyman is still out there, it may have served to justify the Bush adminstration's prolonged presence in the region. Not saying that was the thinking but it certainly would fit in with the Neo-Conservative way of doing things. Whereas Obama, no longer has any need for the bogeyman (or the military - if you want to assume they lie to the president sometimes) and can score some much needed popularity points at the same time. Either way, and whatever the truth really is, thre is no overwhelming reason to think that the CIA or Americans are telling the truth all of the time (we know form history they don't) and the lack of any photographic proof, esp in this era of media overload is very suspicious indeed.

I'm liking the sound of the beach huts in Whitstable! Eff ED lol....

Just posted on twitter...ha ha ha.... BreakingNews Breaking News TIME interview: US did not work with Pakistan for fear it 'might alert the targets' of bin Laden operation - CIA chief http://ti.me/ljjg2j Bin Laden died years ago unless the US produce proof as far I'm concerned.

But huncamunca....I'm sure you had offered to head the 'waitrose' action group ;-)

I was talking in general terms about the recent media and government attacks on those in receipt of benefits....labels such as 'scroungers' and 'dole scum' are not unfamiliar to this forum either.

I don't disagree that it applies everywhere, but just because it does, doesn't make it alright or forgiveable. Nor do I hold any value to the idea that after using the slave trade we were the ones to abolish it...oh well done us! Of course making people work long hours in factories and mines for peacemeal (and making barely enough to feed themselves and their families for a day) while the speculators got rich is not a form of slavery either is it? That went on until the early 20th century. It is what it is - a stained past with many things to be proud of but equally many things to be ashamed of. The wealth of this country historically was made on the backs of ordinary people who were worked to death and not all of them came from the colonies as slaves.

We don't need either an M&S or Wiatrose. Some make like those to be local but need? no. The M&S in Brixton is near enough to go to after all.

I think that the lack of proof along with the past behaviour of American adminstrations is the issue here isn't it. Because the only people who are really going to benefit from the use of conspiracy theories are surely the Jihadists themselves. Without proof they can always claim, as they have done before, that Osama Bin Laden is alive and well. We've had no end of fake videos with lookalike impersonators for example over the past years.

Those blow to shit are not disposed of at sea either!

Totally agree Willard...they showed photos of the bodies of Saddam Hussein's dead sons for example. Surely the most wanted man in the world would share a similar postumous image.....if not from the government, from the mobile phone or camera of the many who would have had a hand in the process of killing and then disposing of him. But if the Americans say it's true, we should believe them of course.......

Oh friern you do make me laugh sometimes. Surely you can see how the idea of an existent threat plays into the hands of governments rather than a non-existent threat (especially one engaged in an illegal war) and if you knew anything about neo-conservatism you would also know that one of it's fundamental beliefs is that it is ok to lie to the people for a perceived greater good. Much of the Cold war was dependent on that theory. Take a look at Donald Rumsfelds involvement in fabircating intelligence during the Cold War to exaggerate the threat from Russia for example. Yes the same Donald that was part of George Bush's cabinet. FACT - intelligence services and governments lie to the people........ And yes I have plenty of understanding of how governemnt, politicians and councils work thank you very much. It might be an idea to not insult the intelligence of some of those posting. By all means if you want a detailed discussion on the in and outs of events since 9/11, then be my guest....just hope you are indeed better informed than you think the rest of us to be. Some people need to get over themselves and remember this is just a local forum...no one gives an iota what you or I think or write about anything...........grow up indeed.
