ED Yummy Mummies? What about the Tubby Hubbies ??!!
pablogrande replied to MrTwirly's topic in The Lounge
You should pop down to peckham and check out the Ginsters spinsters -
Hi all thanks for the replies. What I was trying to do was get an idea of what the Job Centre would like in the job description in order to filter people who were correct for the type of job we are offering, which I though would make their life easie,r just seemed a shame that they can't pull their fingers out and get things moving. I think it's a shame that local councils don't spend some time contacting local businesses and try to find out if employers have any vacancies or want people on work experience or whatever. I have used agencies in the past and have had nothing but bad experiences. Narnia - I have advertised here in the past a couple of times and I am pretty sure I contacted everyone who responded, I checked through my PMs now and can't find any previous ones from you? If i didn't get back to you I'm sorry - maybe I need some office help!

In light of the current climate you would have thought the job centre might want to help employers give people jobs, it seems that this is not the case. I phoned the helpline saying that I am looking to advertise a vacancy in my company and wondered if I could speak to someone who could help advise what I need to put in a job description, what level of salary I should be expecting to pay, and if they had anypne on the books at the moment that could possibly fill the position. 'No we don't do that, you can only email the vacancy to a third party agency who will post it on the job centre website, they do not give any advice' So if anyone knows of someone looking for a junior admin/stockroom position based in London Bridge with possibility of flexible working (20 hours per week up to full time) please PM me. thanks

Is there any truth in the rumour that Redknapp put in a last minute bid for Celine Dion in the transfer window?

One thing that would help a lot of the shops is a custmer service course, I can think of at least five I won't shop in due to poor attitudes. On the plus side there's a few that really stand out for the opposite and is what I think small independenta are all about. Out of interest James do you have an idea of the split of types of premises in the lane? ie how many premises there are, how many are empty, how many are food retailers etc? I think one of the problems is there are too many places that you would only buy things every few months eg gift shops and not enough places where you can buy day to day bits and pieces but I guess that's the price we pay for supermarkets selling such diverse things now.

Northcross Market to open on Sundays?
pablogrande replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
could the road be one way on sundays only maybe? -
I think one of the problems with the food independents in the area is opening times. Before I had a family and got into the routine of weekly shop I'd often buy as I go when getting off the train in the evening, when many of the small food shops would be closed so the option was Sainsburys or Somerfield as was. It would be nice if we had at least one day a week of late night opening. I really like Waitrose and it's the only supermarket I would buy meat from but I wouldn't want it on the Lane but I think it could work somewhere nearby if the objective was to bring more people into ED as they would provide parking which would allow customers to pop to the Lane but is this what is wanted. Personally I would prefer a proper indoor food market with various independent traders where you could pop in in the evening, maybe with a couple of cafes that are open late too.

hi all, many thanks for the feedback it's very helpful it's all very early days yet but wanted to get a feeling for what people would like to see. Some answers to questions so far Shortwave - an excellent cinema which was part of the Bermondsy Square redevelopment which is as far as I am aware subsidised by the developers for the first so many years. James Barber you may be able to point me in the direction of other intiatives that could help us get up and running? Pricing/booking - there are all sorts of different options of how you licence the showing of films and how much you have to pay the distribution companies(which I am still trying to get my head around) this it seems would make it impractical to run such a small venue as a walk in cinema, if only 10 people turned up it wouldn't even cover the distribution costs never mind the overheads, a film club is a good idea possibly even a subscription offering entry to so many films over a year? Choice of films - this is up to whoever books the space, from what I can tell most studios output can be shown as long as it's available of DVD/Blu Ray I would hope people would organise their own mini programmes (I used to love the all nighters at the Scala) Own catering - can't see why not. Kid's parties - something I already thought of only problem would be this will be my demo cinema for potential clients so not sure about sticky lollys on seats etc. As for full size cinema in ED, I would love it but can't see it happening any time soon, the chain that run the Picture house chain are pushing for one in Crystal Palace and I can't think of any site suitable here for an 'aspirational' cinema. I would love to get as many people involved in this so please keep the ideas coming

Given that so many people in the ?what does East Dulwich lack? thread mentions an arthouse cinema, I am thinking of opening one, well sort of?. I own a company that designs and installs screening rooms in the homes of the rich and famous and the lease on my current premises is due to expire soon. The premises will be offices and workshops plus a demo facility. One of the options I have is to relocate to ED or very close, and if I do there is a possibility of making the demo facility bigger and available for private rental. My idea would be that the screening room would sit somewhere between 20 and 40 people and could be rented on an hourly basis, this could be for films, sporting events, business presentations etc. I would not plan to get an alcohol licence therefore customers could bring their own booze but I was thinking of providing soft drinks, mixers, snacks etc at very reasonable prices and maybe getting local caterers or restaurants to provide a menu for an evening e.g. The Godfather followed by spaghetti and meatballs. Due to licencing and the probable location/type of building it will not be a walk in cinema where you could buy a single ticket. It would require people getting together and booking out the room together. What I would like to gauge is ? Would this kind of facility be popular and would it be used often. When would you be most likely to use it? Weekdays, daytime at weekends, evenings at weekends How much per head would you think is reasonable to pay to watch a movie, bearing in mind you can bring your own alcoholic drinks and get cheap soft drinks and snacks! How far would you be willing to travel for this, I have already looked at various premises and found suitable ones in Nunhead, Forest Hill and West Dulwich but ideally would like ED and have a few possibilities here but none perfect as yet. Is there anything else you think would make this more popular? I am not looking to make a lot of money out of this, just wanting the space required to pay for itself plus I thought it would make a great addition to the area. Your ideas and comments are very welcome and if you know of any non retail premises to let or for sale that would be suitable min 2000 sq ft ceiling height of 9ft min! please let me know. Thanks Paul

I looked into this a while ago, then a friend pointed out the safety aspect. Most of the seven seaters are five seaters with additional temporary seats in the bootspace, these temopary seats tend to have thinner construction and back straight onto the rear of the car in order to fit them in, this means there is no crumple zone should you have a car or worse rear end you, the thought of this made me shudder. There are some videos online showing tests done on these type of cars.

Is this some kind of hint.

In order to increase tax revenues, smoking will become compulsary in all government owned buildings, public masturbation still outlawed everywhere other than night buses. 3D TV dropped by Sky due to induced fits in children. Wikileaks confirms that Tony Blair was not George Bush's puppet after all, the truth reveals that Rod Hull faked his own death in order to control Tony from the inside and real reason for the Blair/Brown rift was the Emu/Parky style throttling of Brown that took place in cabinet meetings. All drugs legalised, celebrity status gained for no reason outlawed. Christopher Biggens imprisoned on elba, Abi Titmuss tied in a sack and thrown off Tower Bridge and all of presenters from 'loose women' beheaded in Trafalgar Square. The internet will die. Ed forum will be replaced with huge scalextric set delivering post-its to users door to door. KFC clone centipede with chicken, 1 chickapede provides enough legs to feed a family of four for a year, thus ending world hunger. Unfortunately every child grows to over 25 stone within 6 months the UK sinks by August
