In his initial post he said he'd visit this site once a week or so. Already he's done more than that. Good for him. He won't last, he'll be moved on to another department for being too useful at this one!

Could be badgers. Or squirrels. Yeah - squirrels that'll be it. Big hunky squirrels.

Another question: I rarely use trains either but I decided to buy a ticket from Peckham Rye - in advance - so that I would not have to worry about missing my train queuing, on the day I wanted to travel. It was a week day time but the ticket office was shut, and the machines only sold tickets on the day of travel, and not in advance. Any chance a) ticket machines could sell tickets for advance travel b) ticket offices could be open all day? And thanks for being here. Good on you!

I've Just Had The Most Amazing Experience...

I had a recorded message when I rang 999 once. Seriously. It was answered about 10 seconds later. I was in shock so they thought I was wasting their time. -
The cyclists box is not always a safe place to be for cyclists since many cars want to push them out the way and hassle them. The point is that they are there, and bikers tend to share them too, although only in Newham do they do this with a welcome sign encouraging them to be there. And yes, some motorcyclists ride fast. As do some cars. And some cyclists. And people run across the road fast without looking. It's not just a problem for one element of road user. Done any first aid recently? Doing a course at Brands Hatch in May. Then we can be of use to deal with the aftermath of idiots.

He was roaming around and was quite a distance when I stopped and he ran over to me. I have that effect... After talking with him and trying to walk away he just sort of followed me. Then when I walked along the other way he followed me in that direction too. I mean, he was in a fenced area. He did not seem hungry or sick. Just damn bored and lonely.

So I was biking around and found myself up Glengall Road where this large beautiful chestnut horse stole my attention and so I stopped and parked the bike and we had a natter. He was livid, his ears set flat against his head, and let me stroke and pat his head but as soon as I even thought of walking away he nuzzled me more and wanted some attention. He had plenty of grass, looked healthy, but lonely. Horses should not be kept alone, that I do know. And I did not see any others around. Any idea about who he is and who looks after him?

I met my "The One" through a Time Out ad. No, seriously. The line was so fabulous most of my respondents assumed I worked in advertising. 20 years this year it is, and he is still The One and I am still The One. Altogether now....

I remember a few years ago an item in some news programme about a man who had survived both world wars and survived such hardships and so on, and was absolutely insensed that in his old folks' home they would not serve his boiled egg 'soft' as it was considered unhealthy and dangerous. He told them 'what for' and apparently this practice has all now stopped.

Maybe they'd been kept waiting 4 hours to be seen and realised they'd left the iron on.

Good ol' Prof Regan. I am enjoying the series. What she did not explain, however, is how animals benefit from homeopathy. Which, apparently, they do. Heard several stories from farmers who use it on sheep and cows.

Does the ability to spell "Dulwichian" make me an egghead? Not sure the word's a real word, but if it were, it should be spelled proper.

My parents live in Thanet and I grew up there. I am amazed at this story and it has warmed me hugely. I hope it continues to be the case. Such a shame what Thanet Council let happen to the heart of Margate and Ramsgate! Hoorah for human beings! -
Will motorcycle keys do? And 12345 good for you. I'm sure you expected the daftness.

Well done to you for taking note of the muggers and calling the police and not just running away / walking by.

"From what I know about bees and the law, bees have no special protection" Yet the Southwark Council Pest Control officer I spoke with yesterday said Southwark Council's policy is absolutely not to kill them because they are a protected species. Talk about left hand right hand! I have PMd relevant people with the officer's name I spoke to so people can sort this out. Which I hope they will.
-
Just spoke to a Southwark Pest Control Officer/Operative type person. Told him the story and asked what his opinions were. He said that as bees are protected species there is no way Southwark Pest Controllers would have killed them unless they posed an immediate danger to the public. Maybe the people who called the police out said they were wasps and it got around that Southwark were coming to kill the swarm thinking they were wasps. Misunderstandings could have occurred here. But the bees would have been rescued and saved as far as is possible unless they started being a danger to us delicate human type creatures. Fortunately, someone else got to them first, and the rest is honery. Orlando Clarke, the beekeeper at at 192 Ivydale Road, might care to be approached if he wants some? I am not sure how rehoming bees works but I love this forum for the education one gets!

Southwark plans to be 1st London council to be 20mph thru-out
PeckhamRose replied to PeckhamRose's topic in The Lounge
So if red routes such as Old Kent Road are outside the regulation, and someone wonders out in to the road on their mobile and is stupidly unlucky enough to be hit by my bike or a bus doing 30, rather than a car having to do 20 on the far side of the bus lane... then it was all a bit arbitrary wasn't it. And another point I tried to make is that I think there should just be one big rule for the whole of London and not all of the 33 little plots of land within it. -

And cheaper. Even the best stuff. Can't put up shelves though. -
Is there anyone who has any direct link to the "pest control" at Southwark Council who can answer to this and educate us all as to their policy? This is a good story and "intexas.." and Cornwall Friend and Plough Homecraft are to be applauded bigly. So where were they all taken? Hope they have a happy new life!

Southwark plans to be 1st London council to be 20mph thru-out
PeckhamRose replied to PeckhamRose's topic in The Lounge
And I am a biker! Well I just re-read my original posting. I think my point was missed which is my fault for not having written it more clearly. My point is that this little plot of land called Southwark is just one little plot of land, politically run, and road users will just have more rules to read from the signs and it won't serve any purpose other than to antagonise. And yes, if some idiot runs out in front of us and we hit them through no fault of our own, they may survive if we hit them at 20, but how far do you drag that argument down? But it was mostly interesting reading people's thoughts. At least we thought about it. -
