  1. Yeah, and it doesn't have to be bottled water either. But water that you've just washed your car with won't be too good for it either. This is interesting since I was thinkingthe palm (and joshua?) trees at Peckham High Street look decidedly unhealthy. The one at the Goose Green roundabout looks great though.
  2. Congratulations! Now, excuse my ignorance, but when you say you shall strive to diversify - what do you mean? Diversify into what? You're a great pub! Just remain a great pub.
  3. I am with Lizzie Django about overpricing when an offer appears on the shelf. And yes trollies, and could they clean the loos more regularly?
  4. If they're as you describe they'll appreciate a not totally legal smoke I expect. Tea too, of course.
  5. Fair points PGC. I have indeed been at the scene of two accidents (not of my own making) where something inside me just calmly took over and I took over the scene and organised people and just 'led' and did the stuff. Afterwards I was a bit shaky but also proud at what I had achieved. So I take the point.
  6. PGC are you disagreeing that First Aid is a good thing to do? I trained as a FirstAider and also specialised in first aid for motorcyclists and am doing brushing up courses. You take on the responsibility you choose to. What are you disagreeing about? Or are you saying that one can not prepare for the aftershock and emotion of having to be in charge and should thus be prepared for what might happen? Or what.
  7. I opened an account with the Co-op recently. Firstly they rejected me saying there was an issue on my credit rating which they did not bother looking into. I paid ?7 or something to Experien to find out why, and I successfully challenged it because the issue is I don't and won't have a credit card which obviously made me out to be a highly suspicious and unsafe individual. The Co-op then opened me an account. You can pay in cheques at any Post office. But to get back to the point of the thread - when you phone them (direct to my branch at Lewisham) you do speak to a human being and they are helpful. And it's the Co-op innit.
  8. So wire up a webcam direct to this site so we can all hook in - the insomniacs amongst us - and check it out.
  9. In his initial post he said he'd visit this site once a week or so. Already he's done more than that. Good for him. He won't last, he'll be moved on to another department for being too useful at this one!
  10. Could be badgers. Or squirrels. Yeah - squirrels that'll be it. Big hunky squirrels.
  11. Another question: I rarely use trains either but I decided to buy a ticket from Peckham Rye - in advance - so that I would not have to worry about missing my train queuing, on the day I wanted to travel. It was a week day time but the ticket office was shut, and the machines only sold tickets on the day of travel, and not in advance. Any chance a) ticket machines could sell tickets for advance travel b) ticket offices could be open all day? And thanks for being here. Good on you!
  12. I had a recorded message when I rang 999 once. Seriously. It was answered about 10 seconds later. I was in shock so they thought I was wasting their time.
  13. The cyclists box is not always a safe place to be for cyclists since many cars want to push them out the way and hassle them. The point is that they are there, and bikers tend to share them too, although only in Newham do they do this with a welcome sign encouraging them to be there. And yes, some motorcyclists ride fast. As do some cars. And some cyclists. And people run across the road fast without looking. It's not just a problem for one element of road user. Done any first aid recently? Doing a course at Brands Hatch in May. Then we can be of use to deal with the aftermath of idiots.
  14. He was roaming around and was quite a distance when I stopped and he ran over to me. I have that effect... After talking with him and trying to walk away he just sort of followed me. Then when I walked along the other way he followed me in that direction too. I mean, he was in a fenced area. He did not seem hungry or sick. Just damn bored and lonely.
  15. So I was biking around and found myself up Glengall Road where this large beautiful chestnut horse stole my attention and so I stopped and parked the bike and we had a natter. He was livid, his ears set flat against his head, and let me stroke and pat his head but as soon as I even thought of walking away he nuzzled me more and wanted some attention. He had plenty of grass, looked healthy, but lonely. Horses should not be kept alone, that I do know. And I did not see any others around. Any idea about who he is and who looks after him?
  16. I met my "The One" through a Time Out ad. No, seriously. The line was so fabulous most of my respondents assumed I worked in advertising. 20 years this year it is, and he is still The One and I am still The One. Altogether now....
  17. I remember a few years ago an item in some news programme about a man who had survived both world wars and survived such hardships and so on, and was absolutely insensed that in his old folks' home they would not serve his boiled egg 'soft' as it was considered unhealthy and dangerous. He told them 'what for' and apparently this practice has all now stopped.
  18. Maybe they'd been kept waiting 4 hours to be seen and realised they'd left the iron on.
  19. Good ol' Prof Regan. I am enjoying the series. What she did not explain, however, is how animals benefit from homeopathy. Which, apparently, they do. Heard several stories from farmers who use it on sheep and cows.
  20. Does the ability to spell "Dulwichian" make me an egghead? Not sure the word's a real word, but if it were, it should be spelled proper.
  21. My parents live in Thanet and I grew up there. I am amazed at this story and it has warmed me hugely. I hope it continues to be the case. Such a shame what Thanet Council let happen to the heart of Margate and Ramsgate! Hoorah for human beings!
  22. Will motorcycle keys do? And 12345 good for you. I'm sure you expected the daftness.
  23. Well done to you for taking note of the muggers and calling the police and not just running away / walking by.
  24. "From what I know about bees and the law, bees have no special protection" Yet the Southwark Council Pest Control officer I spoke with yesterday said Southwark Council's policy is absolutely not to kill them because they are a protected species. Talk about left hand right hand! I have PMd relevant people with the officer's name I spoke to so people can sort this out. Which I hope they will.
  25. What smog? It's not the sixties, y'know! And welcome, welcome. A bit of a journey but another seaside countryside option is Whitstable. Train from Peckham Rye change at Bromley South. Lots of fab cycling along the coast. And a fabulous fish meal for the evening.
