  1. Well that's Good. Means people will actually stop and slow down and concentrate on their driving instead of letting traffic lights do their thinking for them.
  2. RosieH you're a lovely thoughtful person. Have you managed to sort something out? If not, I'll have 'em.
  3. I am glad to read it. Whenever traffic lights are not working, I have witnessed people driving more carefully. Fewer accidents happen. Which tells us.... get rid of the lot of them!
  4. Yeah yeah yeah and ban cars. Pahhhh.
  5. Working a bit from home and also going round London. Today went to Mitcham then over to Hounslow and then over to Kentish Town and back. When not working, gardening the balcony plants and wondering again how to stop squirrels ruining everything. The slate chips stopped working for them. :( Going to friend's beach house Tues and Wed. HooraH!
  6. I hate that the BBC uses the news to advertise its own programmes. I hate that the BBC news presenters smile too much at the camera/us specially 6.00 news. I hate the way one can sort of feel the producers bosses telling them to dumb down and be appealing. I love that BBC was brave enough to broadcast Jerry Springfield musical. I love that BBC still broadcasts people with opinions and personality and character that divides people (like J Clarkson, and I love him). But as far as licence fee is concerned, I think it is value for money, the question should be is there an alternative to paying for it. The only way one can watch television at all, let alone the BBC, now, without a licence is by watching all its programmes via iplayer on computers and ditch the telly altogether. It's a massive question. I don't have the answers. But of the question of the topic I would answer: just about.
  7. I love Jeremy Clarkson. I have written elsewhere why. But if you have to despise someone you really are hitting the wrong target with him. He is harmless. No, seriously.
  8. Nahhh, not a patch on Jessica Rabbit. But I do agree with Xena
  9. Is the Clockhouse end of Barry Road "Nunhead" then, ?????
  10. Not as useful as a birdfeeder and birdbox, but hey, if it adds value - (looks for weatherproof clock, leans out window and hangs it on side of birdfeeder so they know what time it is)
  11. Yeah I know and agree. But official sign says lake. I agree though. it's a pond.
  12. Dahhhhhling they do not want you to GO to a post office. The website is to keep you at the website. You can order stamps on line, buy a machine that lets you pay for postage on line, buy stamped envelopes on line. ANYTHING but actually go to a post office. They are trying to close them down so it is not in their interest to have us GO there. Saturday they're open but I think they close 12.30 though the postman makes the collection at 12 so if you go in to get something weighed and posted at 12.15 hoping for a Monday delivery, tough.
  13. LONDON is on at the weekend. Loads of free things to do. Just get a bus to the river and walk and explore and have fun. After tomorrow, the weather looks GREAT. Go to Mudchute City Farm Isle of Dogs. About 4pm they feed the llamas and they come out and say hello.
  14. Very innocent. I have been overcharged both times I have been there but I always pay in shops with cash and always check.
  15. Very interesting story this, and reminds me of the adverts that appeared when the flats in Aura Court ("the local Aylsham Centre offers a goodchoice of shops" my arse!) were selling, often off-plan. I live in one of the red brick flats up the hill from it, and round the corner from ?2m house on Colyton. My flat has an uninterrupted view across the London skyline, and a fabulous park across the road which my flat does overlook (I refer to it as the front garden) with Nunhead Cemetery behind us (the back garden). Having lived here for 25 years I never need much reminding just how fabulous the area is, and yet the advertising lifestyle package that goes with these c.?300,000 flats - (let alone a ?2m house which doesn't have great views, does not strictly overlook the park as advertised since it is not above it, but across the road from it) - remind me of the lifestyle I should be living in the flat I also own so close by. So I went to Ikea and bought a nice cream rug and bought an overpriced slice of average carrot cake the other day in the park cafe. Now I'm there. I'm there!
  16. I am not offended, sweetgirl, but it is a very naive question. The question should be asked of anyone driving a vehicle, that if they know they can not see all around their vehicle from the driving seat, they should take extra care when intending to manouvre, by using those shiny reflective attachments that came free with the vehicle. They're called mirrors. Also, a switch in the car which if nudged to the left or right actually lights a flashing light front and back to the left or right of the vehicle, so we know what you think you may do. That's called indicating. Then use the reflective shiny things again in case what was in the blind spot first has now become visible, then you move slowly. Fortunately, by far most people do this sensibly and safely and I am sure you are one of them, sweetgirl. Also one can invest in a standard extra attachment that can be acquired in order for you to see more clearly what's around you. It's available from everywhere from John Lewis to the Mind Shop. It's called a CUSHION. Secondly, as a motorcyclist whose stationary bike was knocked over a few months by a stupid short woman who claimed she could not see out the back of her big 4x4 and so thus it was my fault for buying a small bike, I reminded her that children come smaller than my bike. That shut her up. Back to topic - do keep us informed of any news regarding this story. I also hope everyone is alright. sweetgirl Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > im not sure if this is appropriate, but i'd like > to pose a question..... as the driver of a large > vehicle, do cyclists & motorcyclists realise how > difficult it can be for drivers of large vehicles > to see them? sometimes even sunlight can prevent > you from seeing ANYTHING in the mirrors?? > > i hope not to offend anyone.
  17. There's a game on Saturday isn't there? When you wrote, "I'm not a millwall supporter or anything,", what else did you mean when you said "or anything". You're not a Southampton supporter either? You're not a piece of carpet? You're not a llama? Sorry, too much coffeeeeeee
  18. 184 bus. Sorted.
  19. David_carnell that was an excellent reasoned post. Still can't stand her though.
  20. What's wrong with money? Or what's wrong with people exchanging skills off their own back? Why formalise everything? Now, would someone like to come round and make good our small hall walls and ceilings, in exchange for.... Maybe this one's for another thread in Wanteds section!
  21. Hi - from someone the other side of the Park who walks quite a bit including up Barry Road via across the park in the dark. As someone else has said, the murdered people sadly were specific targets. So it makes Barry Road no less safe than any other road. And I don't feel unsafe (hold on, double negatives confuse me) - I feel safe anywhere I walk even north of East Dulwich Road. And at night. And that includes in Peckham. Making an "issue" out of it somehow makes people feel they should be frightened, and so they become frightened, then start telling people how dangerous it all is.
  22. Tarah - where was the building in Chelsea that you first referred to? Thanks!
  23. Er.. cate... sorry but the "duck pond" is actually the LAKE. I know this because Southwark Council spent a lot of money making signs telling us that it is a LAKE. So that's what it must be. "Pond" indeed. Pahhh.. Yes, the adult exercise things are on SE15 side of the park, and by the skateboard area. Likewise I saw lots of little kids on them, yet Southwark Council spent a lot of money on signs telling us it is for over 12s only. And they spent a lot of money on signs saying that dogs should be on leads in certain areas of the park, yet the park keepers were clearing out the water fountain area in the middle of the Sexby Garden once again because dogs jumping in shortcut the electric bits that make the water fountain go whoosh. Apparently. We are signed out, it would appear.
  24. The Friends of Nunhead Cemetery has an open day which is often busy. Sat 16th May. You can google them to contact them. Peckham Rye Fete is September 5th, and the AGM is on 22nd April in the cafe in the park itself so you could go along and ask about it. Hope this helps!
  25. Is TonyLondonSuburbs our bossAdmin?
