  1. Get the train to Ramsgate. Make sure of the tide time tables, then walk to the coast (a few minutes), and then walk all around the Isle of Thanet (which includes Ramsgate Broadstairs, Viking Bay, Kingsgate, Joss Bay, Palm Bay, Walpole Bay, Cliftonville (get a bus to Margate station if you're knackered by then) and on to Margate. Thanet also includes lots of inland little villages too. Can you tell I grew up there? If you make it as far as Margate, Margate station is on the coast road. (I did that walk in about 4 hours slowly as the seashore is my 2nd fave place to walk and explore) There are caves and inlets and great sand and about 16 different bays. WAIT - edited when I realised he said SOUTH EAST LONDON. OK, Crystal Palace to London Bridge doing as much of the green chain as possible. Or. From Tower Bridge to Chelsea Bridge and beyond if you're up to it. Just get an A-Z of London and pick the bits you fancy!
  2. No, and I won't; their advertising pissed me off.
  3. As someone training to be a Humanist Celebrant, and who worked in funeral directors for a few years in the past, I am happy to inform you you have more choices than you ever ever did before. Motorcycle hearses (choice of classic Triumph, Harley Davidson or classic suzuki motorcycle to pull (with - I kid you not, the obligitory No Smoking sign on the hearse window even if you're going to be cremated ...)) - your ashes turned into a firework, anything you want. For myself I have already written in my Will, and arranged separately with the London Anatomy Office that - if they will accept it - my body is to be taken immediately to the London Anatomy Office and they will arrange for it to be studied and dissected by medical students. (After all, NHS saved my life many times when I was a kid.) The LAO reject bodies of amputees, and various other reasons. Otherwise donate parts that are useful and have the hospital burn the rest. The Clockhouse is to get a lump of money behind the bar and everyone to go down there with my mate Sally the Celebrant to have a party. Good for you dulwichmum to raise this issue - I realise you had tongue in cheek with some of your thoughts, but either way it's a good thing people do think about it. Many was the time people came into the office and wills had not been made and some families not even aware there was a first wife and other children!
  4. Wearing a lambswool sweater maybe (ie in sheep's clothing. Sorry, only on 2nd coffee of the day)
  5. I got the same ticket for a different area with the same lack of a no u turn sign. Going down St martins Lane and trying to turn into the Trafalgar Square. No right turn! So did a left then followed all the other cars doing a u turn. Westminster must be making a killing. I've paid up.
  6. Fab sculptures! Made me grin. Hoorah! Wish there was more public art around. Thanks Southwark for commissioning this; don't think we've forgotten the damage to the Blake mural tho!
  7. Pub in Wanstead the other week offered me chilli and chocolate crisps. Seriously.
  8. As soon as you see the Gulf Stream aiming for and hitting the Azores High, then you know to ditch the brolly. This statement, apparently makes sense to some people.
  9. You did have too many sasperillas! I asked this on another thread but should it not be called Dog Kennel Hill Village? Or Grove Vale Village?
  10. Why is it not called Dog Kennel Hill village?

Any idea why Nigel is so angry?
  12. I can't wait to drive past them today and hoorah for the council (and I do't often say THAT) for commissioning something like this. The comment above about them representing the deforestation of the area, made my naughtily cynical friend say something that in the future such a commission might be of a sculpture of a bulldozer with "Sainsburys" on the back of it!
  13. Thanks LuvPeckham! Very grateful! I am so mad I had to miss it. I wish more people would all demand more explanations for the crap they come out with.
  14. I shall consult MrRose shortly, but for what it is worth he has studied the weather (can't spell meteorology) when he was training as a gliding flying instructor (they need to know more about the weather than people what fly planes with engines in them!) and he reckons it will be a hot summer. However, I have to tell you that having tried to plan a weekend in August, all our favourite places are already heavily booked, specially the more expensive hotels in the west country. It's getting worrying now! So book something sooner rather than later. I shall try and revert back when MrRose has come from from working for one of you!
  15. I'll do it long as it is a comfy chair, wifi, endless JD and coke or a pint or two of porter.
  16. Keep checking here. or the other one for Dulwich
  17. Could I bring my laptop?
  18. yayayyyy well done! Just shows, patience and WHINGING AT THE RIGHT PEOPLE!
  19. Did anyone go? Any complaints to councillors made about - ohhhh let's say too many litter-picker-uppers - the parking issue - anything? Since so many of you complain in here to people who can't do anything about it, it would be good if you'd gone to the councillors and parking nazis at the community council, people who CAN do something about it. But probably won't. ;)
  20. I make them. Personally. In my kitchen. I love carrot cake and decided I had to learn to make them myself. I have tried various recipes and come across the best most successful. I donated one to the Peckham Rye Park fete last year and I beleve it was cut and sold in point nought nought of a nannosecond and no-one threw up. PM me and I am sure we can come to some arrangement. No, seriously.
  21. The original post seems to have gone missing... Hope some of you can report back on what happened - I'll be at work.
  22. ???? what demolition at London Bridge? Where abouts and of what? Making way for the Shard of Glass?
  23. Just drove down Rye Dale and saw a black Honda CBR on its side outside the Forest Hill Road end. Knocked on the door closest and a nice man said the bike had been there a while and he saw a car knock into the bike, knock it over, and the car sped off before he could get the registration number (of the car). I have a note of the reg no of the bike. Any of you know anything about this bike? I'll let the local police know when I can find the right number for them...
