Very Belated but heartfelt Thanks PR Station

SteveT what a courageous comment you made. Is this really true? Only a woman could have helped? Could not a man have even phoned the police or ambulance anonymously to help? Big questions here. -

fterPrince Harry's Remark Now Charles Is In THe Spotlight.
PeckhamRose replied to Tony.London Suburbs's topic in The Lounge
Well I "might" find that "they" don't like the term, but I have not seen their views represented. I suppose I am arguing over the mis-use of language, and arksking that we reclaim our common sense. -
fterPrince Harry's Remark Now Charles Is In THe Spotlight.
PeckhamRose replied to Tony.London Suburbs's topic in The Lounge
Should we try and reclaim the language? I mean, someone from Spain is Spanish, someone from Pakistan is Pakistani or Paki for short. I have absolutely no offensive bone in my body to want to hurt someone, so I would say it in that context. I object that people would term me racist when clearly my intention is not. I am not naive but I get sooo confused over Political Correctness and the fascistic interpretation of language imposed upon me by others. I need to go out and ask Pakistanis what term they would prefer I think. No-one else is! -
I travel by plane, because I can. But should west of London be our travel terminal? I see both sides of the argument. I remember when archeologists found the remains of the original Rose Theatre when contractors were digging the foundations of some office block in the early 80s, and there was a festival and attempts to save the Rose. One of the actors was John Sessions and he did a great turn as a oyster fisherman living in the 16th Century, who was right peed off that these people were going to be building yet another theatre ruining his trade. He had a point! I have often been round Sipson and Harlington and the areas to be flattened, they're pretty village green areas. Not quiet, of course, but pretty. What are your views? Or has this thread been started before. If so, sorry!

HOW TO START EACH DAY WITH A POSITIVE OUTLOOK
PeckhamRose replied to Marmora Man's topic in The Lounge
Thanks ????! That's so comforting! It's 11.00 and I feel better already having read your post! You've been up five hours? Wow. No seriously, Wow. -
Or "revolutionary" in the title. This one does not, to be fair, but just saying. What interested me was that I read the line, "looking at Brits who buck the trend of our reserved nation and who aren?t afraid to" and then my eyes went to the next line hoping for the words to read something positive, like "aren't afraid to build something people may not like at the beginning but grow to love (Peckham Library - The Home Office - the flats on Vauxhall Bridge Road now Grade 2 listed for example) or "aren't afraid to wear stripes and spots together...." "aren't afraid to visit countries with poor sanitation...." "aren't afraid to be brave and English and eccentric" (Boris, Jeremy, for bad examples) But no. "aren't afraid to" - be negative and whinge. Yawn. (Apologies, not well and do not think I made the above point well enough but sure most of you will get my point!)

Lordship lane post office - foreign currency
PeckhamRose replied to Strawbs's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Mick Mac "What do people do with foreign currency". Here's what I did with mine. I went to USA last year for 2 months. I bought several thousand dollars, cash and travellers cheques. Carrying such a large amount of cash simply does not bother me, and it was in about 6 different places about my person and about my bag! I did not use my debit card over there and do not have a credit card. I bought the dollars at a good rate. Came home not having spent them all so stored them for next time. But The rate fell, so I sold them back and ... made a massive profit. Hoorah! -

Oh yes, another point. I bought a heap of USDollars and paid with my Abbey debit card once (about 4 years ago) and when my statement came, Abbey had taken ?4.50 off me for it. I told the PO about this and to be fair to them (in Clapham, sorry but that is where I was working at the time!) the PO reimbursed me and now when they remember they warn people in advance. My Nationwide Debit card the next time though resulted in Nationwide not charging me. But then I discovered AmEx had better rates! -
Community Council Meeting Wed 14 Jan at 7pm
PeckhamRose replied to PeckhamRose's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I hope someone will be going to this meeting since the subjects being discussed are of regular concern with many of us in here. And Please would you report back? I am so peed off I can't attend! It's at Mary Magdalene school on Consort Road the one way road leading up to Nunhead. -
Lordship lane post office - foreign currency
PeckhamRose replied to Strawbs's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
In my opinion, American Express. But not one in Central London as their rates are less because their (business) rates are higher (get what I mean?) There's one in South Ken I tend to go to. All the companies will say they'll match everyone else, but somehow (being someone who goes to USA quite a bit) I have found AmEx always the best. Have a good trip! -
HOW TO START EACH DAY WITH A POSITIVE OUTLOOK
PeckhamRose replied to Marmora Man's topic in The Lounge
I just decided to really try and be more positive in the mornings. I started, by making sure I get up before 9 in the mornings. Haven't mastered that yet, though. -
This is not a classic, and the author is still alive teaching literature at Canterbury. But I loved it so much I started reading it again immediately after. The Death of Mr Y by SCARLETT THOMAS I had NO idea what it was about but someone knew me recommended it and I dived right in.

Or they could just use the site to employ the children to make their clothes. casamac Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I wondered whether Primark might snap it up, its > current Peckham premises are too small and the > Woolworths site seems bigger.

Why not get all the money for the budget of this reality TV nightmare (what is the running time 6 x 30 mins?, then make a series of 10 minute dramas instead. Now that's what UK REALLY needs and has talent in abundance.

Waitrose? In SE15? Haaaaaaaaa hahahahahhahahahhahaha I Heard BetFred are interested.

I think Southwark's own website may have them, too. But here's a link to start with. I can't find the map either. But there's plenty of info and I am sure there is a map somewhere but sorry not got time to find it right now. -
Pat Condell's latest videos. There's a few of him. I want HIM on Radio 4's Atheist Thought for the Day!
-
Do they have a right to charge? Did not know that. Is that "tappage"?
-
Well, maybe I'll go to the office in a few weeks time and tell them all to go home that there is no need for the charity to protect against discrimination against those of us who do not believe. Mick Mac, I am not a spokesperson for the BHA but just happen to be a member because I felt it right. I can't define humanism in any way that sounds any different as if I had used the word "Atheist" instead. I suppose Humanism means I believe Humans are all that's here, that we made God up, and so it's humans who need to sort out the mess because God can't. Or something. So maybe a Humanist is an active Atheist? I dunno. Anyway, here's the link to the British Humanist Association. See what you think.
-
We is an Atheist. Sorry Huguenot, you are right of course. I volunteer with the British Humanists Association but it was not even them who thought of the campaign. They benefited though, and are being sued by Christian Voice!
-
Noooooo that is being organised by the Atheist Car-Removal-Lorry campaign. If there IS a God, she is locked in the boot with shame.
