  1. Thanks so much for this link, I adored Bill Hicks so much. But I do agree; the advertising companies probably put way more pressure on Letterman than he would ever dare admit.
  2. Wetherspoon pub. Ok, just teasing.
  3. Just so's you know, my own surgery is not a big medical centre, and I can see which ever doctor I ask to see if she or he is in that time, but all the doctors there I respect, and like. Whilst they may not come out to me themselves at night because of the SELDOC system, I do just want to say I feel that this surgery (Nunhead surgery) is the best ever I have used. As for this topic, that is a lovely posting TLS. An ex boyfriend's Mum lived in Portland Street and remembered how it was before the council knocked it down and maybe she knew that doctor too. However, she did say the houses were horrid and cold and damp and was glad to see them go! I did not know my neighbours in my little block, till I went round and introduced myself to them and found some common ground. However, I am not condoning the building of those dreadful 10 storey blocks and their scary alleyways though.
  4. Oh thanks Simon! The only research I could find led me to the address of The Sea Cow. And they didn't understand English when I rang them last night. Thanks everyone!
  5. steel = steep. Of course. Sorry. OK guys well thank you very much for helping me out! (Do feel free if anyone else has any other information about The East Dulwich Hotel!)
  6. Yes I was wondering if it was East Dulwich Tavern but the person I am researching for says not. So these flats you refer to, on this steel hill whatever a steel hill means, where abouts down Lordship Lane is it? I know the new flats at the junction of the road leading to Dawson Heights - was that "East Dulwich Hotel"? I'd not have thought of that as East Dulwich. I am terribly grateful for your help. (Not really getting into the Planet of the Apes on the telly!)
  7. A "steel" hill? What does that mean? But thanks for your help anyway!
  8. Now that's a funny thread. See, my side of the park it's still "Have you got any semi skimmed"?
  9. Hi - doing some research for someone who wants a photo of The East Dulwich Hotel, but I can't seem to find such a place and certainly never heard of it mentioned here. Is there still somewhere called "The East Dulwich Hotel"? If not, was there? If so, where was it, or where is the building now? Thanks!
  10. But is it any good in the woman?
  11. snorky that was sad to read!
  12. Me and my next door neighbour bought and had installed a wrought iron gate at the end of our balcony. We have quite a long balcony so if the worst happened we'd have quite a bit of space. I recommend this as an idea if you are in a similar sort of situation. It also means we can leave plants and bicycles and so on on the balcony. And cheaper contents insurance.
  13. I met someone last night who said he/she had loads of names on here. She/he often forgets which is which but so far has not got into trouble yet. He / she was really sincere, I think.
  14. It definitely wasn't "Who". Roger Daltrey couldn't hit those notes.
  15. Of Wow That's clever My Lots word Colours!
  16. Please let the police know. Then go along to the Police Ward Panels (meetings between residents, police, police community support officers, community wardens, and other interested people) and tell them too. The next one is at 7.00pm on Thursday 5th March at the school by the south end of the park. Can't bring myself to write the words of the school so I shall shut my eyes and apologise for mistakes. Harris carpets "academy" (regular school sponsored by carpet magnate)!
  17. And if there was more than one edition then may be you simply got the wrong edition. So there could be hope yet.
  18. Excellent point. Of course I suppose he has. I mistakenly thought as he has not advertised Little Chef or insurance he hasn't sold out yet. But I think you're right.
  19. There is one on here who has posted stuff about a subject which it seemed clear to me he could not have experienced personally (through the way he was writing), has then PMd very offensively to me because he did not like my point of view, and yet people I have met who have met him say he's reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally nice. Interesting innit, people's personas on here and how they differ in real life.
  20. I was deeply disappointed I must say. There are just some iconic people especially from the 60s or those who made their name then anyway, who I feel should never sell out and he was one. I am not a fan of Ben Elton but it would be similar if he started advertising anything! Or Joni Mitchell. Elton John advertising the PO was understandable, he did not make his name by criticising society. Having said that, neither did Iggy. But even so...!
  21. Really beautiful. About the book; it occurred to me maybe there was more than one edition? or version?
  22. Please complete this survey if you have any opinions on the matter!
  23. "you have good access to a variety of public transport (not that I use it, but if you're that way inclined)" Louisa what the bloody hell does that mean! Sooooo funny! I am "that way inclined" to use public transport sometimes, and considering we are a tube free area it is surprisingly easy to get about. I am on the other side of the park from you, Ocean, but indeed the Clockhouse (with it's very friendly landlord Laurence) is a great local, and the park is fabulous at all times of the year. There are some lovely walks and views from round and about! Hope you enjoy life here. Oh - and I try and mix with all ages!
