  1. Which page? not that I buy it, but browsing casually while queuing at Sainsburys.
  2. I can't be there then but I hope it goes well and I look forward to the 2nd one if I can make that! This deserves the bump!
  3. RosieH wrote an interesting point: "And the council IS supporting its public - the reason it's buses only down that stretch of road is to make public transport run faster and smoother, serving precisely those members of their public who can't afford (or choose not) to drive around town. And more power to its elbow I say." Why does the council employ an ecology officer in Jon Best, when it forces cars to use excess petrol, wear down badly maintained road surfaces, and generally cause congestion elsewhere (and thus bad air quality for those nearby, when the traffic could just use the street it needs to go down? There are one way systems round the back of Oglander and the back of Rye lane and the back of Nunhead that cause dreadful congestion by forcing traffic on fewer and fewer roads, other traffic to get lost because of INadequate or missing road signage telling you how to get out of the mess it forced you into, and don't get me started on stupid satnavs as an answer! Wagtap you'r a breath of fresh air. And also, isn't motorcycling - despite all the legislation - still the best way to see anywhere albeit from the inside of a helmet?! Ride safely, and install a really loud horn on your bike.
  4. They're soooo adorable! Ta Keef for message below!
  5. See my edited post. Now show us yer... cat.
  6. Well thank you. So one wonders why Southwark Council are asking for our opinions when everything is set and the plans are made. They asked in their consultation document what Southwark could do to stop people crossing the road without looking. Like it's only a Southwark problem. London boroughs have an overinflated opinion of their own importance. When asked where people live, they'll never say the borough, unless it shares a name with an area. They'll say East Dulwich, then London. It is so ridiculous that there are differences in the different boroughs and even then TfL roads as to how they deal with traffic. My answer was to stop trying to do the impossible, and just remind people to take responsibility, or clone everyone to be like the perfect individuals who work in the highways department of Southwark Council. Christ is it still only Monday? I been working all weekend and Southwark's streets are the worst to get round. Even my local councillor agrees!
  7. With all the topics about missing or fat cats in this Forum, I thought it about time we had a Gallery just for them. Look forward to seeing the photos! Hereeeeeeeeee's Spacey! She shook her head as she does not want to be recognised because she is so shy. So I have included another one. THANKS KEEF BELOW!
  8. Oh tell us more. What do Arcady and Rodel mean? If decisions are made for the council by such standards what are they asking our opinion for? Grrr.
  9. Did your cat get fat by drinking ALL that Pale Ale and Wheat Beer?
  10. A suitable sized roundabout? Have you seen the tiny ones on Clayton/Consort Roads? Work perfectly. You do not need to take a chunk out of the park. The pavement was widened on the opposite corner of the park to make the trsffic light junction. That pavement was fine the way it was. The Goose Green roundabout does work. It gets hectic at rush hour of course it does but at least when you get to it and it is clear you can progress. If you get to it and it is clear but a red light tells you to stop for no reason, is that a good thing? Course not. And another thing - the crashes in Dorset yesterday had the police telling us to drive safely and be more considerate and most importantly to TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. Amen to that, but that means pedestrians too of course. I rode 80 miles around London yesterday for work (no, not a courier), without leaving the big size A-Z, and it is ridiculous that different boroughs in the same town called London have different ideas. And Southwark is one of the most backwards. IMHO ;) I know, I know, I should be at church...
  11. This is interesting: "Having just been on a speed awareness course my eyes were opened to various rules and regulations that are technically beyond the control of the council. The way the system works, for example, is that you have to have repeater signs every so many yards in a 20mph zone. Thjis is because the 'national urban' speed limit is 30mph" So what happened with the nice stretch in Walworth Road, then? No constant signs, no unnecessary signs, and a nice flow. (Apart from the bendy busses blocking everything up!)
  12. I think roundabouts should replace most traffic lights at most junctions everywhere, yes including Peckham Rye SE22 and Peckham Rye SE15 junctions with East Dulwich Road. Pelican crossings and zebra crossings can be installed on the roads leading up to the roundabouts. Works in East Dulwich Roundabout at Lordship Lane, doesn't it? And roundabouts work everywhere else. You progress when there is no traffic, and you don't get held up unnecessarily just because a red lights tell you to. On topic - saw a policeman fining a cyclist going over a red light at Shaftesbury Avenue yesterday. There was absolutely no traffic coming so the cyclist would have been quite safe and I actually saw him look both ways. Unfortnately he did so right next to a police car, so the police car bombed forward and nicked him. Probably nicked him for being stupid enough to take the p!ss right next to a police car. I never have a problem with cyclists going over red lights.
  13. Oh and will people stop telling everyone else to use a bicycle. Facsyclists! Some of us are physically unable to, some for health reasons.
  14. Goose I also live on a third floor and am given a big plastic bag AND we have recycling bins downstairs. Any reason they have given to not give you big plastic bags? Ours are collected every Friday, though I tend to use mine for ordinary rubbish, because I take my recycling down to the bins downstairs. The bins take way more stuff than the council allows you to put in the bags, by the way. Pressurised canisters for example can be put in the bins but not in the bags. Incidentally, household batteries can be deposited at libraries now.
  15. Roundabouts with pelican crossings or zebra crossings on the approach roads. Works in loads of places. East Dulwich roundabout for example.
  16. I am with wagtap. The problem is there are too many traffic lights and the cyclists take their chances and of course we know the large majority do so safely. Last night there was a discussion about it at the Police Ward Panel and the police said they do use discretion. But also said it is against the law. Hmm. In the Southwark Council road plan thingy I have suggested traffic lights should be stripped out. They help cause congestion.
  17. I do not believe there is such a thing really as Consultation. Southwark Council already knows what it wants to do and will put in more laws more legislation more reactionary rules and laws and instructions and road humps and signs and more signs and then more rules. Then another law. You can't go anywhere without signs (and there's me, trying to keep my eye on the road but I have to read all these signs!) and legislation telling you what you can not do, where you can't go, and where you can't park. Southwark Council only says there is a consultation to make us all happy and glowing at the thought we have a right to say what we think. The initial poster makes this clear. The second to last paragraph says "Drivers too can benefit from lower speeds". Yep, they've already made up their mind.
  18. Keef Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I think PSCOs are a good way to go, they're not > going to throw her in a cell, they'll get her the > help she needs if indeed she needs it. If she is > just taking the p!ss them she'll know they're on > to her. Will they fine her for begging with all the money she got given?
  19. Just browsing through Southwark and Peckham's website, can anyone truly tell me any major idea or plan that an ordinary member of the public had, who put it up for consideration and then which was adopted? Seems to me Southwark and all councils/governments start a plan, then ask us our opinions to make them look good and open, when already the plans are taking shape and they already know what they will be doing. Peckham Area Action Plan for starters. I know I am being cynical, but it's borne from experience of living in this council for so long.
  20. Just go to Greenwich Market or Borough Market. Wear armour. It's tough out there.
  21. You BUY pastry?
  22. Our day in Paris, by Peckham Rose For his Birthday, I always tell MrR to keep the day free and then a surprise day is had. This year was the day in Paris but I could not find his passport! So had to tell him the night before. This proved to be necessary for another reason, because as he is a photographer he had to choose which camera to take amongst his million of cameras. Studied all of your suggestions for lunch, taking into account we had about 5 1/2 hours in Paris. Tuesdays Georges at Pompidou Centre shuts - that would have been first choice. So I decided to go for TJ's suggestion. Arrived at Gard du Nord, took a taxi to Vielle du Temple. Taxi stopped us outside Gamin de Paris. Gamin de Paris was shut. D'Oh! Found another lovely place nearby. Bottle of champagne with lunch - what the hell. The nearby photography museum shuts Tuesdays. D'Oh! Walked to Notre Dame and along the river, then got a taxi to Sacre Couer and wandered around Montmartre, had a coffee, walked to Gard du Nord, and came home! Thanks everyone for your suggestions! We had a lovely day. LOVE this forum! (Edited for spelling and other nonsense.)
  23. I think the whole world should speak one language and have one currency but then I live on another plane(t).
  24. As mentioned elsewhere I have said no to this plan - even with the pretty pictures of sunny cyclists cycling down a flower lined path - because it will send a message to the bad car drivers bombing down Peckham Rye that it is safe to continue driving badly now the council have taken out one of the dangers. If the cyclists get their own path maybe we motorcyclists and bus drivers shall get together and demand a bus lane we can share! Knock down one pavement and tell all the pedestrians to only walk down one side. That should do it... The park is a park and should only be a park. If there are bad drivers then deal with bad drivers and don't punish the majority of good car drivers.
