  1. I love reading this thread!
  2. If you are into such things then go. What I liked about it was there to my surprise quite a lot of independent shops, and also obviously big chains, but the food choice was better, and it's always fun to look in De Beers shop window. What I did not like about it was it took me half an hour and two security guards to help me find where I had parked my motorcycle! I'd go again!
  3. I absolutely could not live in the country. A friend I work for lives outside Alston Cumbria with a generator for his lecky and no other house in site. I LOVE going there, even staying a few nights, and biking through the High Pennines ("An Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty" doncha know), but wherever I go, coming back to London and seeing the first tall building I may see, I somehow feel safer. Like OP I also love the seaside and grew up on the coast, though was born in London. Cities such a Vancouver and Auckland appeal as they are best of both worlds. But they're not London! Spent the afternoon by the way, today, walking from Canary Wharf complex along the river all the way through Limehouse and Wapping, stopping at The Grapes when it rained. Perfect! And no-one around. Empty empty empty. Love London!
  4. Bloody hell James would you stop using our forum to score points at your other councillors? You're all as bad as each other and we've told you about this before! Marmora Man - THANK YOU.
  5. Literally a stone's throw! How I would LOVE to be allowed to go up to the top floors of those buildings. So if any of you know how I could be allowed, let me know! I've been up quite a few tall buildings in London including the two tethered balloons at Vauxhall and Tower Bridge several years ago. That was fun!
  6. MR PR took this from the front balcony the other day. It's been photoshopped only for cropping slightly and to make it a bit clearer! Anyone work in the top of the Bishopsgate tower or Gherkin who experienced this? Weird, eh!
  7. Do consider the members thing above in my earlier post. As for money saving and being greener, I have constantly told them that they do NOT need to waste money and paper by - when they write me with a copy of the letter my consultants send to the doctor - attaching another sheet of paper telling me what they are doing. They could print that bit on the back of the letter. Or better still EMAIL ME the letter! Until they stop this nonsense and the CE is paid less than the obscene sum he's paid now (and the BBC has to get its knuckles rapped over its stars' fees, when so many hospital managers and CEs and so on are paid extremely high figures) then I won't give them a penny, except my time while I have it.
  8. I have never been able to give up smoking. Mainly because in my entire life I have never once held a cigarette to my lips. I hope you manage to last without ever smoking again, my health as a child and thus an adult has been ruined/dominated by my parents who smoked and my lungs are crap.
  9. I agree with MM, except I don't think I can make the reactive and rather talking-shop style community council.
  10. Mark Thomas, probably. Here is a thing about the members.
  11. Exactly. This is the case everywhere, when traffic lights fail and people have to THINK, there are usually no accidents (and I know this is borne out by evidence gaterhers). The Exhibition Road scheme is going to be fabulous. The little stretch of road outside Sloane Square tube works well, too. Please Mr Barber, get rid of the lights.
  12. Those of you who have said you think the hospital is a great hospital, may I highly recommend you becoming a MEMBER of the FoundatioN Trust. Anyone can be a member and there is a meeting for any of us and non members at 6pm Thursday 16th September at the Weston Education Suite, at the far end of Bessemer Road, ie walk down it from Denmark Hill where the main hospital buildings are on your left, and the car park on your right, and then at the end the Weston Education Centre is to the right, in front of you. Anyway, I have not received any such letter, but the Chief Exec himself often attends these meetings so you could ask him yourself all about them!
  13. I rmember that thread and I can't find it either, now. But definitely they (council) had said the lights were temporary. Anyone running a 'book' on this? My money says the traffic lights will stay!
  14. If you like heights, do go up Monument but also you can go up the Tower at Westminster Cathedral. And Tower 42 of course. And visit the Michelin Building if you've not been. It's so beautiful. Then wander up to Harrods for a laugh.
  15. Roasted parakeet! We'd need to get quite a few in the pan together though to make it worth a proper meal. Wonder what it goes with? SILENCE for starters!
  16. Or just horny and someone's there for you..
  17. Do you not think our spouses read this when we are not looking? Are you MAD?
  18. It is - I recommend Dennis Servers House too. We could go past these places on the motorcycle, dear Rosie, so you can decide what to do ;)
  19. And does anyone yet know what parakeets taste like? Keeping me awake, the little sods.
  20. Nothing will pull me away from Radio 4 in the morning and Planet Rock at 2pm onwards (sorry Archers' lovers!)
  21. Awwwwwww thanks. The Physic Garden was great - we went there last month. Every month we try and do something "London" we've not done before. Also recommend Eltham Palace, Chiswick House and Gardens.... ohhhhhh there's so much!
  22. Mudchute City Farm bottom end of Isle of Dogs - then lunch at the top end around Canary Wharf.
  23. Oh yes, and you can also go up the top of the Tower 42 (ex NatWest) if you book, there is a bar up there. But you don't HAVE to buy a drink unless you get another mortgage!
