Peckham Police & community come up trumps!!

Oh well done. Well done for posting a Good news Story about the Police and a stranger. Our thoughts go with your son! Change his name! He ain't so silly for changing course and riding straight towards the police! -
I believe England's first school to teach creationism as a 'fact' opened in the west country? Can't remember now but I think it was on the British Humanist Association's website last year.

damaged car (wing mirror) on barry road yesterday
PeckhamRose replied to angiepangie's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Oh good for you! Very community minded! :D -
The British Humanist Association's take on it, and what it is trying to do to make things fairer. Just in case anyone is interested!

I live up the road just a little so don't know what the estate itself is like, but the area is lovely. The park of course, the pubs (Clockhouse / Rye Hotel), a great doctors surgery (Nunhead Grove), Nunhead shops. Come to police ward panels and make yourself known to the local safer neighbourhood teams, the local police, which may make you feel safer, but I am not aware of any particular issues around there. Enjoy!

What wlll you be / were you doing at 10 past 10 this morning? Sadly despite the best efforts of the 10:10 organisation and the cock up with the film they made, there is not a lot of publicity about it and none on the BBC but the subject of the film is covered elsewhere on about page 3 of the lounge as I speak, but that apart, does the numbered day mean anything to you apart from fun binary code? I'll be back in bed, I just got up to make coffee and poke around in here. Now, 20th October will be even more fun numerically speaking. Or not. If you're into that sort of thing....

... a lot of money by not going shopping; a few quid's postage by buying more than one bottle of ink from ebay at the same time; time by not going shopping; a few quid by making my own bread courtesy of bread machine.

Quink Ink. I write a diary every day using the same fountain pen and can rarely find blue ink for it. Good ol' ebay.

And the poor, in the ever decreasing availability of council flats with more than two bedrooms, are stuffed. They're on benefits, they need more space because their one of their two different gender children are already sleeping in the lounge, and maybe they always wanted a third child. But the main problem is the housing costs which prohibit people moving out of the poverty (even if they do have a job) with however any children they wish or feel the need to have. Children are a natural biological thing, in that humans need to reproduce. Having children is not a lifestyle choice. They are our future, and all that. (The biology bit meant that I never wanted any, but I still care about those that do and can't afford it (and don't have Sky, a car, a holiday..)

I'd rather live in a town called Grays than a town called Gravesend....! I like the country bits of Essex and riding round on the bike seeing the little villages in the north of the county is rather pleasant. Even the island bits is great fun. But agree with the towns, so very little 'soul' about them. But the A13 (even though thanks to Boris us bikers can use the bus lanes) is a nightmare of a ride to have to get there.

I don't know the owner's name but I don't think he was a boxer though he looked a big enough man to be one. Ohhhhhhhhhh you mean the dog! If anyone knows this man do tell him to look on this 'ere site and contact me. I think he'd be delighted.

I have a rather funny photo of the best puppy at the Peckham Rye Park fete's Dog show from early September. The owner was rather a large gentleman and I took a photo of the back of him, with the head of his puppy sticking out from his side. It is a film camera and I would be happy to let him have a copy if he would so wish, for free of course! Contact me if it's you!

Osborne Scraps Child Benefit For High Earners
PeckhamRose replied to DJKillaQueen's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This does not directly affect me but I do see it is mighty unfair that two people who are a couple withe a child who earn just under ?40,000 each still will get it, whilst one person single parent over ?40,000 will not. We are taxed separately but when we want something back we are judged as a couple. Another example is free prescription certificates for people who only work a little. I am taxed separately and earned so little I did not have to pay tax but when I ask for a free prescriptions form they judge me and my out of work hubbie as a couple and I am not entitled! They can't have it both ways, oh - but they do! However, I really feel sorry for a lot of families and single parents especially who are going to lose a lot of money for this, even though I think child benefit should not be given to 'the rich', they have screwed up how it is to be allocated as the main example demonstrates. -
I was thinking of calling them at the weekend for my upstairs neighbours, and indeed have used them in the past. I don't want to have a bad feeling between me and my upstairs neighbours though (anymore than it is already), so did not call the noise team. I don't think the team will be axed (is that a word that is pronounced 'asked' by some?!) because there is just such a high demand for it. But who knows. Make your feelings clear - there's a Nunhead and Peckham Rye Community Council meeting tomorrow at the school on Whorlton Road, SE15!

Consultation with patients. (Halal food served unlabelled)
PeckhamRose replied to Tarot's topic in The Lounge
What are you saying Sean? That the two people who posted above are hypocrites? A doc on halal meat slaughter the other day said that in actual fact even though the animal is facing in some direction and the slaughterer is a muslim, most of the animals are stunned first anyway. Just goes to show how ph@*&ing ridiculous religion is. Oh, and nearly all lambs slaughtered in New Zealand is halal! Crazy. -
That's sad edcam. I never knew that. I know from his autobiography and other articles written about him that he was not homophobic. Were the quotes heard straight from him or quoted a la a tabloid type credit? At least you stayed on topic unlike the children above! ;)

The TfL website does indeed have all the info that is what it is there for. Hope the western extension does get abolished though. (I'm a biker it doesn't bother me but I care about motorists needs too!)
