How important is physical attraction in a relationship?
PeckhamRose replied to emc's topic in The Lounge
I have experienced the - "Ohhhh he's gorgeous and he's witty and funny" thoughts, then he comes over and chooses to talk to me, the ugly one in the corner, and he opens his mouth and thank God he has a voice like a girl and breath that could kill a rhinocerous at twenty paces. At the Peckham Cinema show on Wednesday there was a lovely slim woman with bleach blonde hair and very slim, wearing a short black little dress and patterned tights. She looked absolutely beautiful in every way. her two Chelsea College of Art colleagues behind me (that college made the film), who were in their 20s I'd say, were being real mean saying she always dresses like that and puts that make up on and she's not that attractive really and they were being real mean about her. I turned around to look at them and neither of them had ANYTHING fabulous to brag about themselves as far as looks were concerned. Why do people talk like that about people? When she came over to them to hand out the brochure card things, they were as sweet as pie. Bitches! -
I was there yesterday and at Joiner Street you're basically walking along the side of one wall of the Shard. As before, I spoke to a man coming out of the Shard and he sat and we had a chat. He works on the firedoors! He also works on the firedoors within the gold Queen's Gold carriage coach and also within the Guildhall. Quite an expert then. He also said he really loved this job. Happy workers! So I've talked with scaffolders, fire door workers, I would love to talk with a project manager - I wonder how many of those there are. Immediately next to the Shard and part of the complex is what looks like another building. But as al four sides of the Shard are now being glazed, I could not work out what this other building is. Car park maybe? Very very very tall building in its own right and within the same compound.

and their dog?! Parents live nowhere near Southwark which is why I wrote the detail in my original post. Mr PR is a helper on Southwark Circle, and after five months of waiting I might get my CRB check for to be a Helper on Southwark Circle, too. One day!

Glasses Direct are cheap because they do not have a wide range of lenses. I am plus 10.75 and they stop their prescriptions at +8. Hang the expense, go for surgery? (I would if I could afford it.) But I shall follow the thread because I need new glasses too!

East Dulwich GPs compared to others in Southwark
PeckhamRose replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Kes I agree. Having to go to Dulwich is a real time consuming pain. It's not the surgery's fault though; they have to do it and they are more than aware of the dissatisfaction. Apparently things are changing; but I highly recommend you either join the forum when it meets or at the least write to CHRISTINE LANDRETH the Practice Manager and tell her of your irritation. The more that do it the better. As for the other issue, I can't comment! -

I am on the patient forum of Nunhead Grove Surgery and this chart is weird because in another one I saw recently it came top by a long way for things like patient satisfaction and opening times and ability of ease to get the doctor you want and when you want, and so on. And they work hard at this sort of thing. I don't understand why they're not nearer the top in the one you have attached, than the one I saw a few weeks ago. Curious! Either way, I can say Nunhead Surgery Practice Manager and her staff and doctors are all very conscientious and work very hard to make sure they do the Right Thing. The doctors insist they'll never go down the route of the 0870 call centre answer system and so on. They are very patient focussed! -
If his Gran kicks the bucket beforehand tho, that'll be interesting (and expensive).

no no no, what was that about 'special' brownies?

Looks like Southwark's festive cuts will bite deep!

I think they bought them off eBay from Lambeth. They had to collect, though. -
Is it illegal to take photos in Peckham Rye station?
PeckhamRose replied to Timster's topic in The Lounge
Check the British Journal of Photography's website which has a lot of info about this. But what DJKQ says is right. It really is crazy. I always carry a camera around with me (a film camera) and when I have to attend court for my work they take it off me, but when I offer them my mobile which has a camera in it and video record facility (don't they all?!!) they let me keep it. Ridiculous. -
Indeed MMan, watching that Shard grow is fabulous. I was literally walked past the west side of it on St Thomas Street the other day and spoke to a scaffolder exiting the site so took some time to talk to him about it. He was lovely and saying he had the best scaffolding job in the world! I had my helmet with me but even with that as a hard hat I couldn't persuade him to let me up there with him!!!!!

And there are some figs on a fig tree (where else?!) over hanging a street between Peckham Rye and the southern entrance of Nunhead Cemetery. -
Will anyone observe the 2 minutes silence today at work ?

Great post there annaj Me and MrPR at home both did. Actually I cried. It is so unbelievably sad. annaj Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > We did. > And if we can manage it in an emergency > department... -
Sometimes it isn't as simple as it sounds. But thanks again everyone.

Thanks everyone. I am very grateful to you all for your advice and help.

It's a matter of getting there though. I don't think they can afford a mobility scooter but shall do some research. I would like to thank all of you who have contributed to this. And those of you who PMd me. Sean - you also PMd me with a nice apology but then wrote a half hearted thing in here as well! Had you just left it to the PM I'd have retracted my post. Ho hum! Thanks everyone. I am asking the DVLA if they demand a check on the eyesight of the over 70s to get the (eye)ball rolling. This is going to be dreadful.

No place for your moralising, Sean, and you have no idea about my unhappy childhood, so leave it out. Thank you. "and there isn't much you can do about it other than worry, just as they have spent worrying about you (at various stages)" To everyone else thank you so kindly for your advice, and to the nice PMs I had, also.

That's actually quite funny. In a sick sort of way. Sadly my Dad does retain a great memory and I can't do it to him.

My elderly parents live in a small bungalow in a culdesac on a very small estate which is served by a small row of shops including a Co-op. My Mum is pretty much housebound now, not being able to walk much. She used to love driving but hasn't driven for years and never will again. Dad has breathing problems so can't even walk to the Co-op anymore. He has a car and he now has to drive the car round the corner (the equivalent distance of say the car park back of Iceland to the East Dulwich Roundabout, except there's hardly any traffic at all). It's the only way he can get the shopping. He doesn't understand being on line much and their old computer has not been used in years. You know where I am going with this. His sight is now so bad that if he has to go further than the Co-op Mum has to go with him to help him see what's coming from the left or right. He only ever drives during the day times and when it is brightest so he can see better. I saw that documentary the other day about this very subject. They are too far away for me to help. We have never been that close but I do care. They are independent and intend to remain so. What the ph&*& do I do? He simply should not be driving the car. Without it, they are stuffed.

My Dad's chip machine makes the best chips I have ever tasted. So it can be done but we have no room for more kitchen machinery what with the bread machine and the coffee machine. But we did once buy two generous cuts of sirloin from the butchers on Evelina Road Nunhead and came home and cooked them to perfection, eating them with so-so chips from the oven! That was when we had money, like!
