  3. Oh my The diving contest could well result in that fear amongst all men of their trunks floating off without them after entering the water. I get the reason that due to the heat and humidity that the outfits needed to be 10% lighter but not sure why that also applies to the diving team. God help us all when these are sold to the public and the first one appears on the averagely built bloke at the local swimming pool Shudders at the image now in my head !

  10. So what you have shown is that even the government has no real idea on exports and imports as both sets of figures are from government sources and both sets are vastly different. (Personally I would trust the HMRC ones more as they collect duties on goods moving in and out of the country) Therefore how can we trust them and their so called facts and statements when it comes to the EU In terms of tariffs, trade deals are a two way process and not us going to the EU with cap in hand saying "can we play with your ball pretty please" and if according to your statement we have to pay 10% on cars we export if we can't reach a mutually beneficial deal then imagine the pain Germany would experience when one of their biggest buyers does the same to sales of bmws, Mercedes and other cars they want to export to the UK. I am sure that with that in mind they will quickly strike a compromise that works two ways (UK and EU) Yes, we are less and less of a manufacturing nation, sadly in part because of the original ideals of the "common market" as well as global economics, but if costs of importing goods from Europe become higher than it would be to make here due to tariffs and other economic conditions imposed as part of any future post Brit exit deals then economics will dictate that we would start making the goods here again, therefore maybe that would be a good thing for us as a nation. Sadly I find your statements are going down the lines of we are a broken nation that needs the EU because we can't make things anymore ... Take pride in our country for what it is, the EU actually needs us more than we really need them, economically they will lose out trade wise, our financial contributions will need to be made up by other member states resulting in a net loss for the bigger players like Germany and France. Ultimately, as I said you need to take import and export into consideration, along with contributions to the EU as well as funding from the EU and overall we are clearly financially pouring more out of the UK Then we get back in, so is it such a good deal that you make it out to be? I personally think not !
  11. Still don't get where you are getting this magic ?200bn from blah blah .. Look At the tables behind the website (second link in my post) and it confirms that it is only ?133bn last year to the EU Can you post where you got your figures from please? As for imports, if we are forced into trade deals with Europe if we exit then we import far more from them and with the Germans (for example) exporting double to us compared to what they import from us then I am sure any tariff we impose on their goods will hurt them financially more than us, therefore both the imports and exports HAVE to be considered when you are making these non factual claims of yours. I would suggest that you need to check your facts more carefully before posting ...

Okay blah blah, you ask for hard facts, the following table was taken from the uk trade info website, part of HMRC which shows that over the past 8 years we have exported far less in value than we have imported from the EU Summary of Trade with EU Countries1: 2008 to 2015 General Trade £ millions 20082009201020112012201320142015Annual Average Growth Rate Exports 141,068 124,649 141,931 158,293 149,986 150,423 146,666133,365 -0.70 Imports 178,858 161,634 184,726 201,599 206,914 217,101 221,360 218,667 2.54 Balance -37,790 -36,985 -42,795 -43,306 -56,928 -66,678 -74,694 -85,302 10.71 Source: HMRC, Overseas Trade Statistics Note: Figures do not include MTIC or late response estimates 1Figures are provisional and subject to update It clearly shows that our exports to the EU are decreasing whilst the amount we import from them is increasing, therefore the argument that blah blah presents around the membership of the EU allowing us to make ?200bn in exports is both factually incorrect and also doesn't take account of the amount we import. Hard enough facts for you blah blah ? 13. Just watching the news about Southwark council losing a court case where they agreed a reduced rate for water for council tenants with Thames water but then failed to pass the savings on, they now have to repay ?8.8 million back to the residents in question. Quite right too that they have to repay it. Question is how will Southwark fund this refund - are we going to see increases in fines for residents of Southwark for trivial things (parking, littering and so on) Watch the Southwark space to see what happens next ...
  14. There's your answer, offer the vendor more money to get the place and guzzump the winning bid by a few hundred more J'sus it's starting from sound like the 80s all over again ... Must buy whilst the prices are going up before the bubble bursts and people get into negative equity ...
  15. In regards to this thread, I'm loving it..... Could we be getting our own Golden Arches or maybe even a honest burger... Who knows but I too will be sad to see Londis go as it is occasionally useful when getting off the bus at some small hour of the morning and realising you don't have milk, bread or beans for that late night supper (never sure that combination when mixed with beer is a good idea but that's a different thread that we can all get blown away by) Guess those who live nearby can put in an objection, but ultimately Londis have possibly decided it's an unprofitable site and someone with money has put an offer in Which means they think they can make it work in the area. Will be interested to see who but would be saddened if it is a coffee Bar chain as I can't see the need for another one
  16. I love the bully boy tactics that have occurred this week, and the attached image from Saturday's telegraph says it all...
  17. I thought this was encouraging when I read it earlier... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-36122901 ... But will it make a difference to scam calls ?
  18. Slight divergence, also wAtch out for emails from hmrc saying you are due a rebate, click here to fill in the form... Again a spam as rebate notifications are not sent by email... Had 5 in the last 2 weeks...
  19. I do muck them around. First thing is to pretend to be old and hard of hearing, then let them rant on about what to do, pretend to do it but make sure you get them to spell everything out slowly and loudly, tell them you are having problems doing what they say but after a bit tell the, "done" to each step (please don't actually do it) it's also fun to make the occasional mistake and when they ask what you can see on the screen tell them you have the wrong glasses on ... The longer you keep them on the line the more fun you can have with them... At an appropriate point, ask them to hold for a second then say that your son has just walked in from his job as head of Internet security at Mocrosofts fraud team and as you are having so much problem doing what they say can they talk to him.... It's at this point they tend to hang up ! Works for me and I love playing the doddering old codger 🤓

  24. I was watching BBC breakfast news this morning reporting from a plastic factory in Northern Ireland and the fact they want to continue to trade with Southern Ireland. Strikes me as there is a win win option for Brit exit and Ireland. If Southern Ireland agreed to zero levies for imports into the EU from Northern Ireland and England then we could continue to trade with the whole of Europe via sunbsidary companies in Southern Ireland, we wouldn't have to pay levies to countries across the EU as the goods would be in the EU already via Eire and it would generate jobs and economic stability for Southern Ireland. Just a thought, maybe naive but it could remove one of the bigger fears of Brit exit that we would not be able to trade with Europe without increased levies. Of course someone in Brussels will kick back against it no doubt and someone one here will poo-poo the idea but thought it was worth discussing.
