Things that every home should not be without.
TheArtfulDogger replied to DulwichFox's topic in The Lounge
After tonight's power failure, torches, matches and candles -
buddug wrote > Is this the beginning of > the outages the electricity companies have been > threatening us with? I too remember the 3 day weeks of the 70s but this brief failure sure as heck wasn't that.

One hour free parking in the area...
TheArtfulDogger replied to easytiger's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This has gone quiet, the initial questionnaire went out, people responded and as yet no update on what is or is not happening. Anyone heard anything? -

Bus Route 12 to get Boris Buses
TheArtfulDogger replied to Bic Basher's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If I had my choice Boris would reinstate the original routemasters but that can't happen so I suspect there is no point whinging about the new ones as the opinions of people on here are not going to change the decisions made by tfl. Lol feels like the Luddites when the first weaving machines were introduced, what next? cries of "burn the evil machines" as residents of East Dulwich village march on camberwell bus garage with pitchforks in hand? -
May sound a daft suggeston but try unplugging it from the wall, leave it off for a few minutes then plug it in and see if that makes a difference. They have a habit of freezing if left in the powered up state for a long period (I.e. Not in standby mose)

Oh dear, poor you but can I say "Grow up and get a pair(of coffee beans)" The clue is in the wording "East Dulwich picture house FOUNDERS weekend" this weekend is for those of us who have waited almost a year since taking out membership to see the cinema open and for members of other cinemas in the chain you will be able to use it in the next week. Is it just me or do some people just like whining because they failed to read or understand what they have read?

Showed this to a friend tonight, he shook his head and just said "the toilet" Not sure if he is referring to the thread contents or the thread question... Either way I don't really want to know 😳

I feel like an old grumpy fart but is it just me getting annoyed with supermarket delivery services turning up late in the evening, making loads of noise or blocking the road rather than pulling into the nearest available parking space. I understand that they are convienient for people but they are also inconvienient for the people around them who aren't getting deliveries. That feels better. Moan over !

Bus Route 12 to get Boris Buses
TheArtfulDogger replied to Bic Basher's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I like the new routemasters but I suspect the lack of conductors will end up as a repeat of the bendy bus days where most people avoided paying their fares because they used the two back doors. Buses a great idea, lack of conductor not so. -

I miss the field mouse that shared my kitchen over winter before suffering in the jaws of the great snap trap Now I have to clear my own toast crumbs off the kitchen surface in the morning 😔

It occurred to me tonight when travelling home and fancying a Chinese takeaway, with the recent closure of three takeaways on Barry Parade, the Indian, the Chinese and the pan pizza, does this now make residents around that area healthier as they can no longer get their favourite takeaways so easily or they have to walk to the next nearest one ? It's a possible positive side effect of loosing three good takeaways but the negative is I had to cook my own Singapore noodles tonight :-( The other positive is I used the Ganapati delivery service last night, taking me out of my comfort zone into food heaven.

That fancy fish and chip place, next to the chicken shop
TheArtfulDogger replied to tetris's topic in The Lounge
Nope, and if you read a book called fat (talks about the demonising of fat as an ingredient) you will understand why chips cooked in animal fat are actually more healthy than those cooked in veg oil... -
That fancy fish and chip place, next to the chicken shop
TheArtfulDogger replied to tetris's topic in The Lounge
A while ago I went to a chip shop in the Black Country living museum ( http://www.bclm.co.uk ) where they cooked the chips the old fashioned way in beef dripping. Best tasting chips ever So my question is does any chippie around here use beef dripping when cooking their chips? -
No shite this post is though lol

Patronising facebook "check-ins" in and around ED
TheArtfulDogger replied to Louisa's topic in The Lounge
Dearest Louisa, I am mostly confused, in one post you state "I am absolutely sick to the back teeth of all this facebook "check in" milarchy." Yet a very short while later you post Louisa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I don't use facebook for this very reason! It's a > bizarre concept. Making online friendships and > sharing your daily activities with these strangers > over a social media outlet. My husband uses this > and left it on earlier and I noticed all these > "check-ins" So you don't use facebook, therefore it doesn't impact on your daily life but you aren't averse to snooping on your husbands use of facebook like a jealous stalker checking up on his social life which then makes your blood boil. Best leave alone so that you don't get annoyed by something that doesn't affect you. If I may can I provide these words of wisdom to Mr Louisa "Run before she starts boiling the pet bunny" :-( -
