  1. Nicky Henson, after a long battle with cancer

  3. Wasn?t the late lamented Londis a Budgen?s at one time?
  4. And there was a David Greig. There is a page on closed branches on the Waitrose history website and nothing shows for East Dulwich / Lordship Lane there. https://waitrosememorystore.org.uk/content/category/branches-3/closed_branches
  5. Thanks for this James. While we?re talking about Christmas trees, can you advise about the arrangements for the disposal of Christmas trees? Previously, these were left out and collected free of charge. What are the arrangements now an annual fee has been introduced as many wishing to dispose of their Christmas trees may not have taken out a subscription.
  6. The plant stall in the market in North Cross Road had some last Saturday.
  7. There was a thread last year about the charity collectors in M&S that was very revealing. It sounds like it may be the same charity. /forum/read.php?5,1992773,1992790#msg-1992790
  8. Post deleted as I hadn?t seen you were asking about cleaning a carpet on the stairs
  9. The problem is that someone is trying to make money out of Christmas on public amenity land which will be unusable by the general public now until after Christmas. Goose Green was purchased for the enjoyment of the general public.
  10. Having now seen Treeamigos on Goose Green, I agree it is a dreadful eyesore and totally out of keeping made worse by the 'hoarding' surrounding it and far too large for the space. Can our councillor James McAsh do anything to prevent a repetition next year?
  11. Would it not be possible to find another trainee who needs to acquire client hours prior to qualification?
  12. An app for a driver owned service would not be difficult but where it could fall down would be where Uber has fallen down i.e. background checks and the possibility of fraud.
  13. I haven?t seen the Christmas trees for sale on Goose Green but I always find the sight of Christmas trees waiting to be sold rather jolly. Southwark will be receiving much needed revenue from the sellers. Selling trees in public parks is nothing new, I?ve seen them being sold in Brockwell and Battersea Parks, and there are probably many more parks where they are sold.
  14. There?s a lot of evidence this is already happening, particularly on self check out tills, and a lot of people have confessed to doing this! It will not be any hardship, or take more than a couple of seconds, for the check out staff to peek inside a bag to see contents and label tally. This is not a good enough reason for paper bags not to be reintroduced.
  15. Sainsburys now have the system whereby customers weigh their own fruit and veg and print out a bar code. Check out staff would just have to scan this bar code without examining contents.
  16. What I don?t understand is why plain paper bags for fruit and veg like we had until the 1970s(?) can?t be reintroduced. These can be easily recycled or am I missing something?
  17. Another hustings will be held at the Baptist Church, Half Moon Lane on 3 December from 7 - 9pm ?Hosted by the Herne Hill Forum, Norwood Forum and Dulwich Society among others, the event is expected to be packed after 2015?s had standing room only. Issues up for debate include the future of King?s College Hospital, climate breakdown and Brexit. Any questions in advance should be emailed to info@hernehill.org.uk. Step-free access on the night is via Winterbook Road.? https://www.southwarknews.co.uk/news/general-election-2019-first-hustings-announced-across-southwark/?fbclid=IwAR2rI6QiX83IeMQ0cLhK6dGXyO63fM8WWtjc9dZg3_UVt23Odw54JAPc00g
  18. I?ve had BT Broadband for many years now. Negotiation tactics: 1. Never renew online at the price shown 2. Phone them up and say you?d like to renew but can they offer any discount. I?ve found the discount offered carries on from one contract to the next. 3. If you really feel like chancing your luck, say there?s still a little while before contract is due for renewal which will give you time to look around for a better deal. They may ask what price you?re looking for which I avoided answering but I did get an extra ?5 per month discount.
  19. I seem to remember seeing something on a leaflet put through the door by the recycling team that it was OK to put cut flowers in the kerbside food caddy. Of course, the leaflet has long since gone in the blue recycling bin.
  20. Looking at OP?s posting history, she seems to have a thing about Christmas trees
  21. We?ve become spoiled in East Dulwich and used to thought provoking and interesting street art. The purpose of this ?mural? is a colourful way of drawing attention to the businesses and market in North Cross Road rather than adding to the Dulwich Outdoor Gallery. So we have to look at it through different eyes rather than looking for something edgy though I would have preferred something a little more interesting than this bland use of paint.
  22. No LibDem candidate in Dulwich & West Norwood, they?ve stepped aside for the Greens
  23. Just because it?s council funded doesn?t mean planning rules can be bypassed although Southwark have a relaxed attitude about murals which I guess is a good thing. The four versions of the mural which were voted on did not include the lettering.
  24. I think it?s the shop owners who are behind it. It now has a strap line ?North Cross Road, colourful shops? Hmmm, bit disappointed it?s just a huge advert. Don?t have any views on the artistic content but I wondered if they got planning permission?
  25. I believe the money for the mural came out of the High Street Challenge funding or something similar. Money for fitness equipment for Goose Green, much as it would be well used, would come out of a separate budget.
