Lordship Lane Independent Traders On TV Tonight @ 6.30pm
nxjen replied to Zak's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
After Sainsbury?s opened, it was the butchers, greengrocers and perhaps a couple of bakers that sadly had to close. This didn?t constitute anything like the 30% that has been claimed. I would also dispute that it took 20 years for the high street to recover, I would say it was most definitely on the up again at the time of the Millenium though not with the same mix of shops that there are now. No, I don?t want to see businesses forced out of the area, I don?t like to see anybody lose their jobs or their livelihood. But as someone remarked on another thread, if the shops? business model relies on free parking that makes resident parking difficult (though this too has been a matter of exaggeration in some parts of the proposed zone) there is something amiss. FWIW, I think the outcome will be a CPZ will be introduced around the station with say the area south of Goose Green continuing as it is now. -

Yes, if in fact that figure is accurate which I don?t think it is, it?s exaggerated. Like his statement that 30% of shops in Lordship Lane were boarded up after Sainsbury?s opened - not so. And where did this phrase ?Deadship Lane? come from which it is claimed was what LL was called then? I never heard it called that! ETA He also claimed that it?s difficult for a family to visit the shops on a Saturday is difficult without the use of a car: as it?s most unlikely any CPZ would be in affect at the weekend, it?s just more scaremongering. -
She would be well advised to stop giving interviews. She is just digging an even deeper hole for herself rather than gaining sympathy. It does seem problematic stripping her citizenship. Has anybody born in the UK ever had their citizenship stripped?

?If the lease with Enterprise expires in June and the sub lease also expires the whole operation could be sold as one. I would guess that might be worth about ?5m.? As far as I can make out, Jamie?s lease with Enterprise IS the sub-lease which is due to expire in June. I haven?t seen anything about Enterprise?s lease with the freeholder expiring soon though happy to be corrected. -

I didn?t try booking an appointment online but I did phone up just after 10 am for a non urgent appointment about three weeks ago. Very surprised, and very happy, to be offered one a week later. -

Some photos of East Dulwich from the early 1960s, particularly around the Goose Green area, have been posted by Peckham Society on to their facebook page today. Worth a look. https://www.facebook.com/peckhamsociety/?__tn__=kC-R&eid=ARCqa1a_Kjs3oRIjlPGc_DOtLsk5pejXLkhvAHxdLan5cA95zdmCf11Y8Qw_SZ3gPUYE-jNIGp79jyfg&hc_ref=ART7rqcj4x9xKXkAWePemANROYz-zTHs79MJmi6QA_HcoOdUyKVJxDdx7heJccpiX3k&__xts__%5B0%5D=68.ARDFgpXpFVx6ETeWSqPIdxTPOvk5yUdyt88pjOSMvcToYcfKwgudtAm6gXoinLImrQk4lk819X_oBeYoqUrD048jrsLrxQQEEQygIkROkLgn_DPY63h9NZ3nLC4N0LkNOMN4n59Qqx1kkQIQ1KgWDTQn7jUHIemf8TGkbzQ-c8L-DDbZqiPvJHUl4i0AhgOgKNQZ7AH_Gabc3WWAlQQqnMbDT3ThgAg87UjE4jEtHxV85D8Jg_GPUdo-2cW-qZhgXZknQSplwuZi7ea_62lFN5Zpz3s103Tf6-O2aqfaHYA1dEDtM-YLYmUd0DCeckRB7fsjEMBF1TC20L7uCON3V25gYhb8w28k1gHncs3GFz-J7iTy9bsT2CqX

The Dreaded Royal Mail 'Something For You' Cards
nxjen replied to JickieC's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I?m afraid it?s nothing new that parcels are left at the sorting office and delivery not attempted, it was definitely happening in the 1990s. In this case the postwoman knew the recipient was out at work all day so it did seem reasonable that a card was prepared while she was at the sorting office and slipped in with the rest of the post. And of course Silvester Road was open with never a thought it would ever close. -
CPZ: Proposed Controlled Parking in East Dulwich
nxjen replied to dulwichresident01's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Whilst Carrie is focussing on her employees who drive in from Kent, it would be interesting to know what other places they commute in from. It?s possible that many are commuting from places where travelling in by public transport is a viable alternative to driving. ETA I suspect this applies to many driving into East Dulwich for work at all businesses. -

Seems like he thought he was being helped rather than reprimanded. Don't you just hate it when that happens?

My thinking anyway So what you?re saying is that residents of the Dog Kennel Hill zone should be allowed to park in the East Dulwich zone but that residents of East Dulwich zone should not be allowed to park in the Dog Kennel Hill zone. -

From the consultation documents: ?Who can purchase a permit? If you live within the parking zone and your vehicle is registered to that address, you will be able to buy a resident parking permit.? This implies there is no cross over from one zone to another. -

?* will those of us in the Bellenden area (so called now by the Council 'West Peckham') not be able to use Bellenden CPZ permits to park in East Dulwich as it is a separate CPZ? That is a point I will be making in my response. I believe any resident of East Dulwich who uses Lordship Lane should be able to park if they want. I believe this is possible but am not sure how it will affect residents in the roads directly off Lordship Lane as I don?t know how many people drive from elsewhere in East Dulwich. ? This would be the equivalent of someone living at the southern end of Barry Road parking all day in the Dog Kennel Hill zone whilst they commute from East Dulwich Station. -

Those who may wish to use their cars for short journeys during the day include Stay at home parents Those who work from home and the self employed The retired whose needs I would say are at least equal to ?the person travelling in from Hayes to work at the local nursery.? rahrahrah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The people arguing in favour of a CPZ claim that > there are loads of commuters parking in ED during > the day, not to work here, but to use our > exceptional public transport - evidenced by the > fact that you can park more easily in the evenings > and at weekends, but... > > If you're a resident using your car to travel out > of ED to work, you likely won't need a local > parking space except for in the evenings and at > weekends. > > If you're not using your car to travel into town > (i.e it's parked outside your house during the > day), you already have a space. > > So by your own logic, resident parking only really > becomes an issue if you're using your car for > short, local journeys during the day. CPZ: Proposed Controlled Parking in East Dulwich
nxjen replied to dulwichresident01's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes, the issue of commuters paying remotely is a bit of a red herring. Looking at the consultation documents, proportionately very few parking bays are marked green indicating Pay and Display. -
?An extra tenner to add on for workmen [and are they going to be happy to pay to come and give you a quote?]? They won?t have to pay to come and give a quote as it?s up to the resident to purchase a temporary permit on their behalf. I had someone visit to do some work in my house yesterday and I asked how a CPZ would affect him. He said that his clients buy the permits entitling him to park and that parking, from his point of view, is a lot easier within a CPZ. Just saying.
