Hi Rosie, hopefully this got resolved quickly, in future, if this happens again, the information below about the Southwark noise team may be helpful, Renata Reporting noise problems Reporting Disturbances We are aware that there are currently problems contacting the Call Centre directly vis the 0207 525 5777 number. If you have problems getting through please call the Noise Team on 0207 525 2000 and press option 1 . We do not recommend you approach the noise offender, but in some cases you may be asked to keep a noise diary that may be used as evidence. Who deals with noise and nuisance complaints? The Southwark noise and nuisance team deals with all noise complaints, as well as other nuisances such as smells, dust, fumes and light. The service is available between the following hours: Day From To Monday 7am 2.30am next day Tuesday 7am 2.30am next day Wednesday 7am 2.30am next day Thursday 7am 2.30am next day Friday 7am to 5pm 6.30pm to 4am Saturday 7am to 5pm 6.30pm to 4am Sunday 8am 2.30am We work seven days a week and will aim to be with you in 60 minutes. This may vary due to seasonal demands. Please check the availability of the service at the time of your call. Please note there will be no service on Christmas Day. Nuisances we can deal with We can deal with: Amplified music TV Parties Nightclubs and pubs including people outside making noise DIY home renovation Construction sites Barking dogs Alarms Odours and fumes from commercial properties Smoke Emissions and noise from works and equipment in the street We can't deal with: Traffic, trains and planes Some domestic noises Footsteps within homes After reporting a disturbance Officers will quickly call you back to check that the noise is still happening and to get more details from you If the noise is still on officers will need to visit your property (carrying ID badges) to assess the noise If the noise is a nuisance they will take action against the person causing the noise in order to stop the disturbance Officers visiting your home We need to show that the nuisance is disturbing you in your property and preventing what you would normally do. For example, we need to show that at night the noise would prevent the average person from sleeping. What is a nuisance? A nuisance is something that would prevent the average person being able to use their property for a normal use at that time of day. For example, at night for something to be a nuisance it would need to prevent someone from sleeping, therefore the assessment would be carried out in a bedroom. In the daytime, the assessment would be carried out in a living room, and we would need to show that the noise is so loud that it would prevent someone from watching TV or having a conversation. What action can be taken If something is assessed as a nuisance, we can: Try to stop the nuisance and issue a warning if they do (first time only) Serve a notice Issue a fixed penalty if the notice is breached Prosecute if the notice is breached Seize equipment if the notice is breached (usually for ongoing complaints) Confidentiality All complaints are completely confidential. Even, if the person is prosecuted, it is the council that takes them to court because as an officer as witnessed the nuisance. They will not find out who has complained. Legislation We use the Environmental Protection Act 1990 sections 79 and 80 to deal with nuisance and the Control of Pollution Act 1974 to deal with construction sites. What happens if the noise is not something that the council can deal with If the noise is something that the council cannot deal with, such as footsteps, you can take your own action under s82 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. Please contact us for more details about this. Why can't you take action for people noise and footsteps? The laws that we use do not allow us to serve notices on people for carrying out normal activities in their homes, or for poor sound insulation. More information You can contact us with any questions that you might have on the number below You can ask your community council or Tenants and Residents Association to invite an officer to your next meeting so that they can answer your questions

Renata Hamvas replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Sam, the Harris school has funding approved but so far they haven't a site, however, they are hoping to build on the Dulwich Hospital site. This is independent to the Bellenden Old School reopening as a school. Renata -
I am really sorry to hear that these mindless acts of vandalism have happened to you all. I have reported this to the Peckham Rye Safer Neighbourhoods team. Renata

Southwark Primary School Admissions for Sept 2013
Renata Hamvas replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hello all, the movements downwards on lists will be for a variety of reasons, late applicants and new residents (including those with siblings at or joining the school). Also looked after children and those who have social or medical need which means a particular school would best suit the needs of a child; these need to be good reasons, substantiated eg by doctors and social workers. Be aware also that most schools allocate distance places on as the crow flies so people can move into the area any direction from the school eg in the case of Ivydale, on the other side of the railway line. Lists will stay with Southwark until 31st August. Renata -
New East Dulwich Primary School 161/80 + 102
Renata Hamvas replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi working mum, there is also another secondary due to open in the Walworth/Camberwell area, on the site that is temporarily being used for Sacred Heart Secondary while their school is being rebuilt. there are also discussions/negotiations going on with some of the current secondaries over permanent expansions. Be aware that all of Southwark's schools are Academies or voluntary aided and therefore it's a different situation to the primaries that expanding. Be aware that there is pupil planning going on, which has anticipated the need for extra secondary places particularly for 2016 onwards (when the current year 3s go to secondary.) A new primary will be opened within the former Bellenden school buildings and Bessemer Grange and Langbourne are permanently expanding. I am meeting with council officers at the end of next week to discuss school places. Renata Renata -
Following my enquiry, council officers are currently looking into this, I will update once I know more. Renata

Southwark Primary School Admissions for Sept 2013
Renata Hamvas replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Many of the local primaries have places in the junior years. If families new to the area secure a place for an older primary child, than a younger sibling goes to the top of the waiting list. There are also instances where parents forget to tick the sibling box on the original application and parents who assume that they child having a nursery place means they don't need to apply for reception. There are also children whose waiting list status is altered due to social/medical need that may not have been apparent at time of application. Renata -
Hi Twoddle, I'll find out for you. Southwark schools are breaking up towards the end of July, so it may be that it simply hasn't happened yet as I agree with Pickle, sports days are most likely to be held in July. Renata

Dear all is it the avenue of poplars? See email below or other trees (horse chestnuts are mentioned above). The poplars are being removed due to disease/safety reasons. I had a surgery at ED Community Centre on Saturday, the next Peckham Rye one isn't until 27th June, so please pm me or email me about this, Renata Dear Councillors Edwards, Hamvas and Mills. I am writing to advise you of necessary works to an avenue of poplars in Camberwell New Cemetery. The Poplar trees in question have been surveyed by an external consultant as part of the strategy target for surveying all of our parks trees. Unfortunately the poplar trees in question were found to be in a poor condition that represented a high risk to the users of the cemetery and the park. The decision to remove these trees was not taken lightly and we fully appreciate the impact such a large number of trees can have when they are felled all together. The issues here are that a large number of the lower trunks are decayed. This means that there is little or no internal wood to support the weight of the tree canopies. The wood would have been decayed by a fungal pathogen leaving it in a pulpy condition over a number of years. The reason for removing all of the trees is due to fact that once we start to remove the heavily decayed ones we expose the others to wind loading that they would not have been used to and their rooting systems will not be as wind firm. This means they are highly susceptible to wind throw and could fail at any point. It is very difficult to quantify how long a decayed tree or a tree susceptible to wind throw could stand for and unfortunately because of that reason we are not in a position to retain them. The altered state of the wood due to the fungi means that there is no treatment available to reverse the process of wood decaying fungi. Because we recognise the impact this will have, we have already identified a planting scheme to replace these trees. This will consist of native mixed species to reduce the future risk of pathogen attack by having a mono culture avenue. We intend to under plant with woodland flora to create an additional interest. I would like to stress that this decision is one that is taken with regret. Kind regards.

Southwark Primary School Admissions for Sept 2013
Renata Hamvas replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Emski and Number 2, sending your child to a fee paying school means you are opting out of the state system. There may be instances where parents have paid the deposit but are uncertain that when it comes to the Autumn that economically they can afford the fees. There may also be others who are on waiting lists for bursaries/scholarships. It does frequently happen that a couple of places ar an average sized primary becomes available in September, but this certainly can't be relied on! Be aware also that in September some classes may appear to have vacancies, but they don't as parents have decided to defer places until Christmas eg if they have a summer born child and feel it isn't ready for a September start. Unfortunately, what will happen with a particular school and particular year and waiting list movement can't be predicted. Renata -
Govt e-petition re school time hols
Renata Hamvas replied to curlykaren's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Something to think about, no Southwark secondaries are under LA control (all VA or academies). Some primaries are VA, free schools/academies. They can set their own holidays. This means that parents who eg have children both in primary and secondary can have major mismatches in their children's holiday. This could mean eg to go away to visit family at Xmas, they may miss some school days for one child but not for another child at a different school. The system as it is only allows children to be removed with permission from the Head teacher, so it is discretionary permission and not an automatic right. Renata -

Campaign for Extension to ED Train Service?
Renata Hamvas replied to Earl Aelfheah's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
What the consensus is, that both the Sevenoaks and Herne Hill trains will run through, but with no increase from current frequency (Sevenoaks ones were due to go up to 4/hour). There may be extra ones to Blackfriars only. Renata -

Southwark Primary School Admissions for Sept 2013
Renata Hamvas replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi all, you can remain at the same position if others are moving up eg at top of list, if people have been slotting in in between you and the people near the top (Kamath, this is what has happened to you, ie places have been given to people above you, but an equal number have also joined the list above you). I think that it's likely that you Ryekids and Bizzylizzy didn't ring on the same day/time and one of you contacted admissions before a waiting list update and one after. Unless people have slotted between you or either of you have be reclassified, you will be one place apart on the list. Renata -
Hi LALKJ, which street are you on? Thanks Renata

Southwark Primary School Admissions for Sept 2013
Renata Hamvas replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I agree with above posters, Forest School scheme sounds fantastic! Hi James, KS1 assessments used to be formal, papers sent off etc until a few years ago. Now they are done as teacher assessments, results are however collated. Yes, children are continuously assessed so parents can see the progress of their child from year to year. With the high turnover of pupils in London primaries, I'm not sure how accurate a comparison of a group of 6-7 year olds with a group of 10-11 year old 30-40% of whom may be different children! The KS2 SATs for year 6s (age 10/11) are still held simultaneously in all schools and papers marked externally (they were Monday to Thursday last week). Renata -
Southwark Primary School Admissions for Sept 2013
Renata Hamvas replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Number 2, yes parents can and sometimes do hold onto school places until September. It is not uncommon for eg 2 children not to turn up for start of primary. Re Goosemum's post- to add, parents of 4year olds should remember that it will be 7 years before their child sits SATs! Renata -
Southwark Primary School Admissions for Sept 2013
Renata Hamvas replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Gina, you have no guarantee of a place being offered to you from a waiting list. You can go up or down or stay in the same position on the waiting list. Ryekids, yes people who have rejected a place due to an alternative eg independent place, would have already impacted on the waiting list. If families move into the area and live closer than you, or take up places at the school for older siblings or get re-characterised under Social/medical need, this will cause you to drop down the waiting list. If you have been allocated a school that is too far from you, please add your name to the lists of other schools in the area. If you get a place at another school that you didn't originally apply to, you still remain on the waiting list of those you initially applied to. Renata -
Parking Charge notices this morning in Peckham Park
Renata Hamvas replied to Maria Mac's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Maria, you have posted your message in at least 4 places on this forum! sorry about your fine. Strakers Road is a normal highway, I have checked this with Council Officers. Therefore you did contravene regulations for parking on the pavement. I would suggest that for future events you walk, take public transport or park near the park and walk there, if the car park is full. Normally signs are not placed on highways to inform people that they can't park on the pavements. I have asked whetherthis location could be assessed for signs or yellow lines. Renata
