This was in the November weekender, so if you didn't pick up a copy, St Francesca Cabrini Primary School, Forest Hiil Rd, Open Morning 29th November Tours from 10am Head's address 11.15am This is a Catholic school, but also is a realistic option for local non-Catholics for whom this is one of their closest schools who are happy with a school with a Christian doctrine. Rated Good by Ofsted. Renata

New primary school in Southwark/Lambeth?
Renata Hamvas replied to minder's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Minder, I was at Dulwich Community Council last night (my ward comes under Peckham and Nunhead CC, but I was there to represent PR residents over Dulwich Police Station). There was a representative from the committee involved in the setting up of this school. They don't have a venue yet. Anyone who has applied to this school will be applying in parallel for schools via the CAF form system. There is no guarantee that they will find a venue by Sept 2013 or if they do, whether the school would be in the ED area. -

Help needed to dye daughters dress
Renata Hamvas replied to Nikkikf's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Nikkikf, it all depends on the fabric/finish how well it will take to dye (whether you do it or someone else). Cotton and other natural materials take dye much better than satin etc. I've dyed stuff using washing machine dye with salt, it's very simple, just follow amounts on packet and put salt plus dye directly into drum and wash cycle (check temp you can wash fabric at). With satin fabric, expect the shade achieved to be much paler than on the packet. Good luck! Renata -
London Overground line extension timetable
Renata Hamvas replied to craigyboy71's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Bic Bacher, I don't know if you saw the below: Here is the motion that I presented at Council Assembly in the Spring; it was seconded by Cllr Mark Glover (A Lane Ward Councillor). This received cross-party agreement and was ratified by Cabinet. I have been a Peckham Rye Ward Councillor for two years, so I can't comment on events before then, except that I knew the South London Line was due to be axed. Part of the problem is that that South London Line and the Victoria-Dartford Line are run by rail companies, Southern and Southeastern respectively. Local Ward councillors only have a limited impact in this situation. Our local GLA representative Valerie Shawcross has also been active on this issue. I am very concerned that even though there has been publicity about this, that not everyone knows about the loss of the South London Line or are only finding about it now. Yes the new service will be useful for many people, but the loss of the South London Line will be a nightmare for others, as it will mean far longer and more convoluted journeys for those travelling to Victoria and surrounding areas. Renata South London Line Replacement RESOLVED: That the motion referred from council assembly as a recommendation to cabinet, set out below be noted and agreed. That council assembly notes that the South London Line is a well-used regular train service linking Victoria and London Bridge. Thousands of Southwark residents use it on a daily basis, as it serves Denmark Hill, Peckham Rye, Queens Road, Peckham Station, South Bermondsey and London Bridge from early morning until late evening seven days a week. 2. That council assembly regrets that this service is due to be cancelled later this year when the East London Line spur from Surrey Quays to Clapham Junction is opened. There will be a reduced service from Peckham Rye, Queens Road and South Bermondsey to London Bridge. As a consequence of the cancellation of the South London Line, Southwark residents will no longer have a train connection to Victoria in the evenings and early mornings and half the current service at other times. 3. That council assembly notes that the service that will remain if no replacement is offered is the Victoria to Dartford service that starts at rush hour and finishes in the early evening. The Victoria to Dartford service is already unfit for purpose. Southwark residents are walking to New Cross to get southbound trains in the morning as the service starts too late. Also, residents cannot access by train, a key connection with the Docklands Light Railway/train hub at Lewisham outside Monday to Saturday peak hours. For two years, the First Capital Connect service has been diverted to Victoria in the evenings. The level of use of this service and the soon to be axed South London Line has shown there is great demand for an evening service to Victoria from the Southwark stations. 4. That council assembly believes the new East London Line is a welcome addition to transport links for Southwark residents. It is however, very much a supplement rather that a substitute to existing routes, as Clapham Junction is geographically a very different destination to Victoria. It is understood that due to routing challenges, with the increased line use that changes to the current service may be necessary. However, suitable substitutes need to be in place. 5. That council assembly supports the proposal for the Victoria to Dartford service to become a full, early morning until midnight seven-day a week service (two trains per hour in each direction), complementing a full First Capital Connect Sevenoaks to Bedford service via Blackfriars. Additional service would be provided during peak hours (similar to the current Victoria to Dartford service) with two trains per hour between Victoria and Bellingham. This would result in maintenance of the current train frequency at Denmark Hill and Peckham Rye to and from Victoria and an increase of two trains per hour at Nunhead. Two trains per hour would still be lost from Queen?s Road Station; however, Nunhead Station is 10 minutes walk from Queen?s Road -

London Overground line extension timetable
Renata Hamvas replied to craigyboy71's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think it is appalling that the Victoria service will be lost. It will take much longer in the evening for people to travel home via Clapham, it may even be quicker to tube it the 4 stops to Blackfriars and then the train from there if the timing is right with the train. Renata -

Year 5 and 6 parents- secondary schools
Renata Hamvas replied to Renata Hamvas's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Brezzo/Tiddles These are definitely the 2011 results, published initially in Jan 2012 (the date changes automatically to today's at the top of the table!). I've checked a few schools, and it's the 2011 results for all schools. Next table for all schools, 2012 results comes out in Jan 2013. Be aware that this year the autumn 2012 retake English results will count towards 2012 results rather than 2013. Renata -

Looking for Primary school in East Dulwich/Dulwich
Renata Hamvas replied to Amandas's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Congratulations Amanda. I am assuming you mean applying for a child who was 4 before 1st September 2012, ie needs a place in current reception. I believe all reception classes in the area are pretty full and the rule for infant class size, says that except for multiple births, they can't go above admissions number ie 30 children per class. As an adopted child however, they will have priority over most applications and go to the top of the waiting list. I would therefore suggest that you put your child's name onto the waiting list of several local primary schools to increase the chance that you get a place quickly. Depending on the DOB you may be able to defer the start at school if you wish and enable them to attend nursery for a little while to settle in. If the child turned 4 on the 1st September or later, than you will be needing to apply between now and January. As a child who is adopted, they will have priority and therefore you will be able to choose the schools that will suit your child's needs most over distance. You can list up to 6 schools in rank order on the CAF form. Do apply for child benefit as soon as possible as some schools ask for child benefit notification letters as proof of address for the child. PM or email me if you need help/further information. Hi Verds, you apply to Academies the same way as LA schools via the CAF form. Occasionally brand new schools (ie not converters to Academy status) are applied to directly in their first year. This is true for Haberdasher's Aske Free School in Telegraph Hill for 2013 entry. Be aware that Academies set their own admissions criteria. . I believe all primary academies that serve the local area do currently have similar admissions policy to LA primaries, but this could change in future years. Renata -
Yes, school year cut off date is 31st August/ 1st September. A child born on the 1st September is 5 when they start Primary, one born on 31st August will have just turned 4. Everyone else falls in between with the February/March children being those of around average age in the class. You apply for primary between the September and January (check the exact closing date) prior to when your child is due to start primary. Renata
