  5. Bit ironic when The Major Supermarkets seem to support the idea of charging for Plastic Bags, whilst doing very little to reduce Packaging. Whereas Plastic Bags Can be used again, very little can be done with packaging. I have a couple of Hessian type bags that I have used for several years. Tesco Green Bags. Occasionally when out on Lordship Lane I pop into the Co-op, I have to resort to Plastic Bags. I save all by bags and when they have built up (Also Store bags when buying clothes and other goods) I take them to the dump when I need to recycle other things. Building Material, Batteries, Printer Ink etc.) There is a bin at Devon Street Re-cycling Depot for plastic bags. Recycling IS important and YES TheCat ? washing out your marmite jars for the recycling does make a difference.... Food Waste is a much bigger problem especially for those living alone. Many things are packaged for two people. With the warning. Once opened use immediately. BTTOA.. Buy Two, Throw One Away. Foxy

  8. I tend to think that a Gastro Pub is a Pub that sells food but does not have a specific dining area. Like The Bishop, The Great Exhibition , The EDT, The Plough. Franklins has a defined dining area and is not really a pub. Although people do pop in for a drink but there is limited space. The Palmerston is a Restaurant as there is no real seating area to have a drink. Standing at the bar seems to be the only option. So not a Gastro pub. The Patch has both a bar and a dedicated Restaurant area so not really a Gastro Pub. Hope that helps. :) Foxy

  17. This article may explain the sudden Lightning and Thunder clap.. I was walking down Ulverscroft Road about 5 Mins before the tremendous Crash . There was a distant but loud rumble of Thunder. The sky to the south was very dark. It looked like there was a big storm coming. On Lordship Lane I was speaking to a friend about looking like we were in for a big storm. Then with the storm clouds still some way off there was the tremendous flash and crash. Bolt from the Blue A bolt from the blue (sometimes called 'anvil lightning' or 'anvil-to-ground' lightning) is a name given to a cloud- to-ground lightning discharge that strikes far away from its parent thunderstorm. A 'bolt from the blue' typically originates in the highest regions of a cumulonimbus cloud, traveling horizontally a good distance away from the thunderstorm before making a vertical descent to earth. Due to the final strike point being a significant distance from the storm (sometimes up to ten miles away), these lightning events can occur at locations with clear 'blue' skies overhead - hence the name. While many 'bolts from the blue' are positive flashes, some are not. Related article.. http://stormhighway.com/types.php Foxy
  18. I was on Lordship Lane at the time talking to a friend at the bus stop outside Jaflong. We were talking about a storm coming. There was a Blinding flash. Max 1 second delay then a tremendous crash that scared the s**t out of me. Other people around us look very alarmed when it happened. Being outside it was so loud. Foxy

  21. holloway Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > i dislike them because they are not bikers nor > qualified chefs. fact. Yes.. The Bike concept may well of come from The Two fat Ladies. I suspect that as they travel around the country, the bikes are loaded on to a transporter then we get the shot of them riding down some country lane into some village or town. Sparkling pristine bikes. Not filthy from having been ridden for miles on end. The clues are there. We see them drinking strong ale and cider then riding off into the sunset. Suspect a lot of editing. Not suggesting the are drink riding. I would not call them Chefs. They are Celebrity Cooks. The novelty is wearing a bit thin now as they have to keep re-inventing themselves. Foxy
