Funny how Ulverscroft seems to be the Top Spot for people to Park their cars when they venture out for their weekly Hog Roast or Dog Roll. Also having no side roads it is the favourite 'Drag Strip' 24/7. Perhaps we SHOULD close both ends to non residents. DulwichFox

It would seem from TV cover that some of the businesses had cellars where the had their stock stored. So they would have been badly affected. Foxy.

It amazes me that the local Authority seems to endorse these Acts of Vandalism. THEN.. Prosecutes someone for installing the wrong type of Windows because they don't fit in with the surrounding area. DulwichFox

I used to go to Peckham Odeon Saturday Morning Pics. Same 'Entry System' there. I always paid.. 6d. but loads of kids 'Bunked' in as it was called. The main film was always. Don Winslow To Be Continued...... http://www.mecum.com/auctions/LA0713/LA0713-159896/images/1943-Don-Winslow-Of-The-Coast-Guard.jpg?lastmod=052113225251 Great Fun.. Loads of shouting ... Foxy

Herne Hill does seem to be a fairly pleasant area. Has the appearance of local community shopping. Much nicer than East Dulwich.. Bit like what E.D. used to be like. A bit too far to go for a casual shop. and not suitable for a weekly/monthly shop. Foxy

The Odeon was closed by the Rank Organisation on 21st October 1972 with "The Burglars"(Le Casse) starring Jean-Paul Belmondo. On 7th June 1973, the building was sold to the Divine Light Mission and became a Palace of Peace Temple to the followers of 15 year old Guju Maharaj-Ji from India. In 1978, the building was purchased by the London Clock Company and converted into offices and a warehouse and it was named London House. They installed a floor across from the front of the balcony to the rear wall behind where the screen originally was placed. The firm moved out of the building in July 2000 and it was place on the market ?For Sale? and purchased by a development company. It was demolished in April 2001, and a housing project was built on the site. Info Source :- http://cinematreasures.org/theaters/29273 Foxy

So you are saying because I am a guy, I should be able to Fight and be a thug. Bigger guys than me have been turned over.. Having been robbed and beaten unconscious in Crawthew Grove Nov. 2006 I am always concerned at night. Have some pics. but you might not recognise me. Ok so you have walked back from there at night. Well perhaps you had had a few bevvies and not aware of any danger. Well that's when folk are most vulnerable.. Foxy

This Thread was about the Draft House but seems to of Morphed into one about Hoopers. There were occasions where I may of gone there. I really would not of felt safe in the area walking back home alone. I'm certain I'm not the only one to have such concerns. Foxy.

They left and I went outside. Both ends of Ulverscroft blocked off Dozens of Police. They asked me where Crystal Palace Rd. Was. Someone on Whateley was pointing down Ulverscroft . Police were asking what he looked like.. Never heard reply as Police told me to go inside as they were bringing in a Dog.. Dog stiffed out all the bins. No idea what had happened. Foxy

Perhaps any new owner should rename it 'The Tardis' May give one a certain perception of space... Cream colors and icy blues combinations can convert a small interior into a seemingly bigger space. Reds will make a room look smaller. Reds also compresses time. Anyone who has spent a seemingly 2 hours in a darkroom only to emerge having lost most of the day. Blues give the opposite perception. Someone having a meal in such a room will feel they have been there for hours. They are likely to drink more. Foxy.

In the old days.. Engineers in telephone exchanges did everything. Including cooking lunch. I believe fire stations work along those lines. Apart from fixing phone lines, part of my job was power. Which also meant changing Flourescent Tubes. With over 300 in the building it was nessesary to do a weekly audit of those that needed changing. and how many needed to be ordered. So if I needed to look busy (Most of the time I was VERY busy) I would count tubes... Foxy -

I was there as a seller last year... Paid ?10.00 made ?9.00 profit on the day.. I had some nice stuff. ie a brand new Bag my mum had bought for ?25.00 but never got the chance to use before she passed away. Could not even get a Fiver for it. People want everything for nothing. Not a good place for sellers.. DulwichFox -
