  1. Should do really well there, being so close to the playground. Personally I like Oddonos, but will no doubt make use of this place too. Ridiculous name though.
  2. That's for sure
  3. There is no way Greece can meet the conditions imposed upon them. They should leave the euro and start rebuilding their society and economy.
  4. All the urban foxes leaving the countryside clearly saw which way the election was going. Politically astute animal the fox.
  5. Looking at the 'animals get their own back' thread, I'd like to nominate sharks.
  6. I thoroughly searched the internet for videos of animals doing amusing things. Doesn't exist.

  8. .. and crows are smart, although they don't half go on about it.
  9. Dolphins and Whales are meant to be a bit swotty.

Yeah, you're right of course it's not intelligence. I guess what I mean is that to the extent that intelligence is just an adaptation designed to give us a competitive advantage.. we're not massively more successful than a cockroach in our ability to survive and replicate ourselves over generations. Their simplicity / efficiency could be seen as superior (depending on how you want to look at it).

  12. Cockroaches are extremely successful as a species - that's a kind of intelligence perhaps. Judged in terms of carving out a very nice life for themselves, cats are at the top though. Get waited on hand and foot, entirely on their own terms.

This is definitely true. When i'm on my bike it's really noticeably how many times you pass the same vehicle as it overtakes, drops back, overtakes, etc. Speeding from one set of lights to the next doesn't actually get you to your destination noticeably quicker.
  14. Aboslutely right Fazer71.. appeals on the grounds of child safety will get you nowhere.
  15. Someone should change the title of this thread, as it implies that Dulwich estate has any stated aim of conservation. It's only objective is to maximise its income. So is it fit to run conservation? No, it isn't and it doesn't claim to be.
  16. I just don't understand why Cameron is looking to reopen this divisive debate. Putting aside the cruelty of hunting with dogs, politically, it seems a rather strange move. What a ridiculous priority to set so early in the new parliament.
  17. I am all in favour of radical action to (for example), increase cycling, or increase use and quality of public transport. But closing Melbourne Grove is not about these things. There has been no significant rise in the numbers of cars travellling along Melbourne grove, nor is there evidence of a particular problem with speeding...so what is the rationale for suddenly closing the road? What is the problem that needs solving with such a radical intervention?
  18. Thameslink will make no difference to transport from Ed. That's not to say it's not worth doing though. SE London is constantly passed over hen it comes to trnsport improvements.
  19. Personally I would welcome any attempt to make public transport from this part of town quicker than walking
  20. Ian Duncan Smith punching the air was a bit pathetic. It reminded me of Kinnock and his 'we're alright' conference speech moment. *cringe*
  21. @james barber - why is it considered inappropriate for people to drive down a road they don't live on? I genuinely don he it. Are all roads supposed to be acces only? What exactly is the issue you're trying to solve and what is it that makes Melbourne grove a special case compared to many other road in ED ?
  22. ....reading that back, I realise that it could sound OTT, to be clear any risk are so small as to be neglible. Of course, if you want to spend a small amount of money on a necklace for your child, then it's your choice. IMO though (any based on the absence of any evidence or plausible theory of efficacy), it's extremely unlikely to have any health benefits.
  23. I'm with Taper. There is absolutely no evidence that these necklaces work. If your child is wearing them 24/7 then there is almost certainly an increased risk of strangulation / choking, albeit a small one. As quoted earlier "...based on the complete lack of plausibility on any level of efficacy any potential for harm, however small, must tip the balance of this equation away from the use of this product. ...edited to add link: https://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/amber-waves-of-woo/
  24. The reduction in tax relief on BTL is well overdue and seems to make sense.
