Always leave mine strapped up outside but ask and Con will let you take it through, tell him the tall biker said it would be fine. Do check out and report back and ignore any snidy comments
  2. Gowlett is a decent pub, I am probably too old for it once the DJs start spinning their tunes. A small yard where you can take kids (which are allowed in during the day). Better than many alternatives. Owner also had the Old Nuns Head (or at least did)
  3. I first drunk there 30 years ago. It was one of my favourite pubs irrespective of the then grumpy landlord and lady. I've given it a go on every refurb and like most of the Youngs Estate it is now horrid. And such a lovely location. You are welcome to it! Good pubs get plenty of comments on various sites such as this. Only one sad person appears to have had any views in the last 18 months. http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/41/4129/Dulwich_Woodhouse/Sydenham Here's a real pub http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/29/2991/Blythe_Hill_Tavern/Forest_Hill No food but they allow you to bring a takeaway. What's not too like? And you can combine it with a nice walk too. Interesting to compare whether (DW) it is as bad as the Herne. In terms of building and beer worse, but perhaps for controlling ankle biters better. My daughter first visited the Blythe when she was a few days old. I am sure that she enjoyed it.

I've been posting a mixture of advice, serious views and the odd facetious comment. Unlike a previous chat room I was on I've tried not to get embroilded in the politics. If I take the piss out of the middle classes then I am being (at least in part) self deprecting. I know a couple OF you have trolled me at times but I wouldn't remember the names off the top of my head. I also spot others who seem to be trolling or just plain unpleasant. The only one I would name is Grok, due to some particularly rubbish attempt at humour on my "What to buy for a 50th birthday" thread. Pehaps he or she may take a look at themselves (as I do to when perhaps my posts are mistinterpretted). Right, now I have the moral highground I can sleep nicely and smuggly/self satisfied tonight.
  5. It's a charity for gawd's sake. Cut them some slack. Take a deep breath and move on. Think about Yemen or Syria. In deed this would make a good comedy sketch. Alternativey write to the Grauniad's consumer problems page. They are getting pretty desparate. For those who get all upity about my posts this is said in good humour.
  6. Wander around - a great place Eat well during the day when they do fixed price meals, some places will do formula on the wine (ie a fixed mark up) Buy beer from the state off license and then hide behind a tree (very tight on public drinking) Watch out for weak beer sold in the supermarkets. See a footy match Go around the archipeligo by boat. Go to the viking museum/boat - Vasa. Plenty to do.
  7. I asked I Ludicrous to play at my wedding party thingy. They had a lame excuse of being out of practice or something. Got to see them at the Hope and Anchor in more recent times. I've posted there footy related tracks elsewhere on this forum. Of course John was a clerk for most of his working life and when we saw them about ten years ago it looked like they had both come from the office. I'll probably see John at a 60th in a few weeks time. Wow, what a rock and roll life I lead.
  8. In my younger days I used to go to quite a lot of radio shows. Started doing this again a few years ago (the Now Show, News Quiz and on one lucky occasion - obviously telly - Later with Jools Holland). In the last two years I have had zero success for anything (all popular programmes). I similarly had no success for the Euros both in France and Poland and very lousy for the London Olympics. Yet Wimbledon always come up trumps. Is it truly totally random? A poll of contacts who went for Euro 2016 showed that none of us within the M25 were successful. Is this a conspiracy?! Interested to know of others' experiences. Hopefully this is a tame question to ask.
  9. Fascinaing reading, and has got my head out of the sand, briefly. So perhaps most agree we have gone from a relatively stable and reasonably strong position to short, medium and probably long term instability. And it may take a generation to sort out and realise benefits?? When if I am still alive I can sit back in my bath chair and observe. I'm probably stating the obvious. Right, head going back in the sand "nah nah nan I'm not listening, not listening. Please don't respond to this post, leave it for the more informed discussion.
  10. Endsleigh. Used them for about 15 years. In another life Direct Line were quite difficult. They probably all come with 24 hour emergency support - although the Endsleigh one seemed to have become more restrictive. Also used Aon once but they cancelled my contract after a dispute over work not done on a claim. Obviously this is one person's experience.

Sense of humour failure my dear friends. Just pointing out a bit of an over-reaction by the media. Obviously the point had been made before. Brawl refers to loosely equally matched groups where no real harm is done. If you want some a real story when the London clubs came down about a 100 of them would stand in their Pringles/Stay prest/etc then start chanting and get chased, led onto the pitch, and receive a warm round of applause from the away end as they were marched round to join them. It got a bit silly after Man U got relegated in 74 when they suddenly got the reputation of trouble and picked up more fans. Glory hunters were Leeds and Liverpool before that. When they came back in 75 there were pitch invasions every away match when they came back up. Rember one at Derby but it was almost dancing with 18 year olds with long hair, short jumpers and baggies trying to kick each other. Then the Man U fan who fell through the roof at Carrow Road. Of course there was far more unsavoury stuff and generally glad it has gone. Always had to be careful at Upton Park even in modern times.
  12. Google it. http://www.cchargelondon.co.uk/coverage.html It is the boundary so you are OK. Boris got rid of the Western extension. For some reason. Got caught once driving on 24 December - a working day of course! Essentially never drive in central London on work days.

Just wanted to say you modern football types are a load of softies. Now whilst I don't condone of trouble at footy matches it was pretty common in all my early days and I first witnessed a brawl when I was 11. It was all exciting and nobody got hurt. Obviously there was less savory stuff Last night's events were so predictable but seemed to be one group trying to have a go at another and vice versa. If you were surprised at that go and watch a posher sport.
  14. Good. Customer service is vital in my opinon. My preference is not to go to LL. You are quite content so that is fine. Horses for courses.
  15. Wow, what stereotyping and some nastiness thrown in too. There is some nonsense on another thread about Beckenham. Probably similar in social status and education to around here. Yet more rabid when it comes to politics. I occasionally go to Liddle and always come out with far more than I expected because it is a treasure trpve. Main issue is that it takes so long to get served. Please all keep your patronising stereotypes to yourselves. But as I can't help but comment, I spent some time with some professional people on the coast yesterday to a special work project. All blokes, all educated, but the casual xenophobic, sexist and homophobic banter took me back to the 80s and 90s. Bet most of them voted out.

I've used Hayes Carpets a number of times. The first one was when the staff in LL Carpets snubbed me (this is a true story). I would have used them again recently but they didn't stock the stair carpet (stripy by coincidence) so we went to EJ carpets in Forest Hill. But this is starting to sound like a where to buy, or not as the case may be, carpets thread (parcularly where the old ones are thread bare) rather than some pointless twaddle.
  17. Don't pick on our Lenny. If you want to pick on someone make it David Jason who was miles off a Peckham accent - which in any case was filmed in Bristol. Or the classic John Nettles where they decided that he should have a SW accent even though they sound nothing like that in Jersey (Begerac). Or Dick Van Dyke. Or some of the mish mash in East Enders where they can't even get the ethnicity right (oh you have brown skin, you can be a generic South Asian).
  18. Why have you hijacked my thread. This thread is how Ryanair try to extract money by pretty devious means. So the couter-argument is buyer beware, they've have managed to open up the market, we can now fly to many more places and they put pressure on the traditional cariers. Both Brussels and our own Office of Fair Trading tried to take them to taks about transparency to mixed results. And then hey presto, they worked out that it wasn't nice to be unpopular, improved their web site, were more honest about prices and even allowed you to have normal sized hang baggage. But now they are trying to frighten you about seat allocation, reducing the advanced check in time for people like me who don't want to pay ?16 for allocated seats for an hour flight. Please try to stick to the point my dear readers.
  19. Just go away. I think you all know my views.
  20. Wow In my youth we freely used mong (downs) and spas (spastic) as insults. Thanks God we've moved on. If that is too politically correct for you then it is a sad day. Now I don't car about chalkboard vs blackboard, and brainstorm vs brainshower. It just seems to be a shallow insult/argument quoting PC. Whilst funny tubby comics such as Jo Brand used their size to good comic effect, and perhaps as she lives just down the road she would sit on you. In a crushing rather than other sense. Go and think about your words and write a 500 word essay.
  21. Quite peed off with reductions in the London Bridge to Croydon (West and East) lines which will be fast (ie ignore much of Sarf East London) and my fast route to Gatwick.
  22. No it aint, certainly Easyjet is much easier as I use both
  23. I was going to just mention infiltration (by West Wickham and Beckenham) and with the migration of the hipsters from Shoreditch to Peckham, maybe we are seeing the same for older professionals from Bromley to SE22. Just look at the voting in the last general election and the referendum to understand there is a massive difference in demographics if not necessarily educuation/class
  24. Its a no brainer. Sadly there are a lot of people with no brain. It wastes fuel and adds to pollution. Sadly the cops wont take action (in fact many of them have no brains too) but some local authorities do get their enforcement officers to do so. FPN. If you ask a no-brain to carry out a no-brainer action and turn it off, you are likely to get abuse. Cars are being progressively fitted with stop start which will switch the engine off. You no longer need to let cars warm up. Many leave them idling whilst tbey make a call or on one recent occasion smoke a joint. For once I would have been happy to grass (ha ha) on them if a bizzy had come by.
