I will never agree with hunting animals for sport.... However I'd happily shoot grey squirrels and some of the neighbours' cats with an air pistol (too many of both). Well in my dreams anyway. And what ever it is does the runny shits in our front garden..... We got a squirrel caught in a squirrel proof bird feeder last year. The thing was apoplectic. As they are pests you are supposed to dispose of them. This poor townie after trying to give it a heart attack with a cat scarer ended up prising open the feeder to let it free (and managing to avoid getting my fingers bitten off). I am such a light weight.

Went to the White Bear years ago when a friend of a friend did a production and similarly the Blue Elephant more recently. When I lived out in the sticks we regularly used to see am dram - usually a Stoppard or similar play and it was always entertaining. Went to the Bridge House in Penge on Monday which has a small (40 seater) theatre upstairs. Was fooled into taking two rescue cats from Celia Hammond. Both neutered. One is a bit anxious and sprays on furniture doing ????? of damage. We plug stuff in to calm them down, and other remedies. It doesn't change. We've had them four years. Solutions ? I came home one night a bit squiffy and got my self a beer from the fridge. Good thing that I had made a mistake in buying Blue Becks. I was so impressed that I thought in the morning that I should try a bottle sober. It was truly horrid. So what to do with those mistakenly purchased bottles. I took them on the opening of the new London Overground line, passed a few around and hoped that someone would try to arrest me for illegally drinking beer on the network. I've not found any decent low/non alcoholic beer. In part no doubt because of the process of removing the alcohol. Erdinger was OK but probably only as a one-off. When I was in India yonks ago we hardly drank as the beer in most states was disgusting, in part because of the preservative glycol (or whatever), it normally came in a brown paper bag which made you feel like a wino, and was very expensive compared to the cost of living. We lived off fizzy mineral water/soda water with lime juice or lemon juice and a sprinkling of sugar. Brilliant. This also reflects of course the climate - not so nice on a wet bank holiday Monday For a treat mango lassi - but not something you could order in the pub. I also drink a pint of soda water with a bottle of grapefruit juice when stopping off cycling - grapefruit juice makes it not too sweet. Good luck

I've posted about my trip to Guyana/Brazil, and also to Bangalore, to see the World Cup and and England test match, respectively. I've done a few other mad things, but now indulged myself enough. Whilst not a competition it would be fun to hear others' crazy adventures. It doesn't have to be sports related.

Thanks guys. Came to around ?2.2 k including a rather expensive flight to a waterfalls in Guyana and probably being overcharged in the jungle. The original idea of doing overland from Guyana proved impossible. In retrospect would have been nice to come back via French Guiana or better still Guam. I've just realised how fleeced I was changing money... I am whispering this, but I actually enjoyed seeing England play in Bangalore 12 years ago more fun - cheap flight to Goa, a couple of days in Hampi, onto Mysore then back to Bangalore. Whole thing cost less than a grand in today's money, and I spend about a third of the time travelling. I said bye bye to the barmy army in a pub, "I am going home now". Rickshaw to hotel. Hotel to bus station. Overnight bus. Panicked a little and got of bus early to get another Rickshaw to the airport. Flight back. Train from Gatwick to East Croydon, then to Norwood Juntion and a late taxi home. Over 24 hours later. Now there is just popping home from the pub.

Great rounds 1 and 2 Pretty dreadful quarters and semis (the Brazil Germany match was only special due to the score). Surprisingly great Final My views are influenced by 8 days in Manaus where I saw a rather dull Croatia match, and then a more classic USA Portttugal (note the very hard T). Yank fans were young, colledge educated, very postive (as was their team) and could show us a thing or two about dressing creatively for a match. A tad annoying at times.... The Aussies, Croatians and Colombians were similarly amiable. Some of the tail end of the English fans I met were still thugs but just very old thugs. Some had tried to pick fights with the yanks in the square, after picking fights with the Brazillians at the England/Itie game. Stadium was fab, if a bit over designed (and will be forever empty!). There was a buzz in the air, and always seemed to be some sort of excuse for a festival, but totally and utterly chaotic with near zero info for fans. Having been involved in London 2012 there were so many hoops that we had to go through with the IOC. I doubt whether Fifa had visited Manaus. The promised mass transport system was not never delivered and they seemed to be making up things as they went along. Accommodation was the pits (and I have stayed in plenty of downmarket accommodation) + massively inflated. No rioting and not sure how it compared with other venues and cities. Brazillains we met were great and I posed for many photos. The World Cup hardly affected the average person in Manaus and as a rainbow nation it is sad to see that most Brazillian fans were white. Not going to either Russia or Kuwait for obvious reasons. Germany 8 years ago had brilliant organisation and fair prices, but a totally different atmosphere. All done on the cheap, flying to Guyana and travelling in Brazil by coach (a very comfy coach too).

Without starting new thread, or trawling through this one, can someone explain in simple English why the early results show that 3/10 of those who voted, voted UKIP? Ie not the maths but in simple reasons why UKIP. They don't like Romanians. They are distancing themselves from BNP and the NF who don't like all immigrants I(not sure how many generations we are talking about here). Britain has one of the most prosperous economies, built in part on colonisation, globalisation (ie if it is cheaper to do it over there we will) and a competitive job market/those who are prepared not to do things through the books therefore cheap labour is seen to be good. I am sure that everyone who agrees with some of the xenophobic nonsense support all of this. Just a sentence of two, so I can get it. I don't get 'protest vote' vote for another fringe party if this is what you want to do or spoil your ballot paper. And as for the major parties, don't change your policies because of this result. Please. Actually Dave R seems to have said it all: As Loz said, when UKIP voters are asked what they think is important, Europe usually comes way down the list. UKIP have put the EU forward as a proxy for all the ills of the modern world [what about all the benefits?!], and invited a protest vote, which they have duly got. I don't think all UKIP candidates or voters are racist [hmm, threatened...], but I admit to struggling with stupid. It doesn't take much critical judgment to work out that UKIP don't have any credible policies and have a pretty high nutter count amongst both candidates and supporters, so voting for them seems kind of stupid to me.
