Your stories about yummy mummies - light hearted fun
malumbu replied to malumbu's topic in The Lounge
Oh my gawd, if you can't laugh about yourself then who can you laugh about. By all means change the stereotype to fairly well educated parents and fairly affluent with young children who are recent arrivals to SE London - attracted by house prices and a growing bohemian atmosphere. The one thing that unites them is they can't say no to their kids, and praise was may have been seen once as disruptive behaviour, now considered creative. By all means argue that this is much better than walloping the kid or locking them in the chokey. Ohh I am so sorry that I did not sleep on my post, re-read it and then take out anything that could possibly be seen as offensive. I was just amused by the behaviour of the family in Finches in South Dulwich (at least I enjoyed the debate on where South Dulwich is). And yummy mummy is a term we use for the change in recent demographics here up the hill in South Dulwich, SE Dulwich, Dulwich on the Hill, Duwich Horniman Park, Dulwich cum Beckenham, SS Dulwich, Dulwich Penge High Street etc. When I moved to the area East Dulwich was rough as F, Lordship Lane was known as Hardship Lane, it kicked off outside pubs in a Saturday night and you couldn't find quince, focaccia or organic craft ale for love nor money. Although on the latter I preferred it that way. And the Dulwich Ripples have been spreading for years. So rather than stay up your own backside, any amusing stories about parents indulging their young children? My starter for ten is when my son was playing with a sachet of mayonaise at a ski hut (now there is YM for you) when it burst open and ejaculated all over someones ski jacket on a chair behind. We didn't praise him, just pretended it hadn't happened as the owner had his back to us, and there wasn't much you can do beyond offer to pay for the dry cleaning. Or run. -
Just so I am not seen to victimise a growing number of you in East Dulwich, this thread is purely for some lighted hearted anecdotes. And it should equally apply to yummy daddies before I am acused of being misogynist So number 1 - lady is with her young child in a shop on North Cross Road, and suddenly announces that Tarquin wants a pee pee and brings out a potty. She was politely asked to take the child into the street. (Having had to hold my two year old whilst she wee'd on on the gutter/verge without weeing on her or my feet that amused me). Today in Finches (South Dulwich) a young child starts to turn a display carousel. Oh do be careful, says yummy daddy, and mummy replied with something similar acknowledging that this was very advanced/precocious and we should all be impressed. I commented later that the store keeper should have just thrown them all out. More funny in real life than it is on paper.

Unlike East Dulich it is served by a useful railway (two if you count Crofton Park), and whilst greatly improved/desirable it doesn't seem to be over run by yummy mummies. Cue a yummy mummies thrad.

OK quite easy rules, fresh water boiled, warmed pot, decent leaf tea, and allowed to brew according to taste. You can argue about milk into the cup first or visa versa. So I use unfresh water, reboiled and straight into the mug, and tea bags. Well at least most of the time. And it comes out OK. So why can't our cafes, pubs, restaurants and fast food chains manage to do something half reasonable? I don't want to spend up to ?2 on luke warm water, tea that hasn't brewed and UHT milk. Simple answer is not to buy tea but occasionally I get caught out. We've had a coffee revolution over the last twenty years, what is the the problem with tea? (thought this was a nice departure from the anti social behaviour thread, but I always think that stirring it with your dick has benefits both in the quality of the tea and of course an extra thrill).

Odd, there doesn't seem to be any discussion on who is replacing Pepe Mel. Does anyone know anything about David Moyes, or Tim Sherwood? They seem quite decent fellers but have also failed at their respective clubs. Perhaps I'd best get onto a Manchester and a North London forum to seek advice (yes I do know that there is a certain sense of irony before you lot all get excited)

My funeral Hurt by Johnnie Cash Complete Control, The Clash That as the curtain draws On White Horses, by Jackie (the theme to the TV series "White Horses" Mum went off to Follow Me, Follow You, by Genesis. As much as I don't like all that late 70s pomp rock, it was very touching. A good friend went into the flames with the Dr Who theme, which after 1 1/2 hours of death and damnation in a high church ceremony was a relief. My reserve would be Atmosphere, by Joy Division. Pretty Vacant could also be slotted in.

Oh I thought it was a Ted Chippington story. Google it if I have confused you.

I'm watching in Guyana and Brazil, fortunately not the England game. When I am back home only one place to watch it is the Blythe Hill Tavern in Forest Hill.

Clealy none of you has watched the troop of monkeys on an Attenborough type documentary ripping to shreds another monkey (of a different species). The former aren't primarily meat eaters, but go 'apeshit' occasionally and tear up the odd animal that gets onto their patch. No doubt some other mammals not far of our supposed intelligence do similar (dolphins?)

I saw the Cure in 1980 and they were brilliant. Maybe even better in 84. I saw them again in 1986 and they were still pretty decent. All down hill from there, I could probably listen to one of the early albums like Pornography on the odd ocassion if pushed. I suppose my rather dismissive post is repeating what the older generation said about me after I saw the Who in 1979. Anyway onto contemporary matters - seeing O'Hooley and Tidow on Monday week at St Pancras Old Church a weel tomorrow wish I am looking forard to.

It's not just toffs, many in the countryside joined in and if you look at some of the other 'animal sports' that were already illegal a whole differnet socioeconomic group partake (or partook) in dog fighting, badger baiting etc. We spent a Christmas in South Wales years ago and were astonished by the scores of 'everyday country folk' who turned up to watch the Boxing Day hunt. Not agreeing with any of this I hasten on and it is a shame that as a society we can't move on and dispatch babaric acts to history.

Sadly I am now posting at the juvenille end of the debate so my point will go amiss with various mud slinging and facetious nonsense. For what was supposed to be the Greenest Ever Government it was poo. They seem to have forgotten the environment. Thats after Dave kowtowing to the Germans (Angela) and so not being hard enough on carbon limits for new cars.

Exercising my right to reply. (a)as with many threads on this site, a few good postings, and then off on a tangent and facetious comments that don't add any value to debate. (b) started this post following the recent Stephen Lawrence stuff, ie that the police infiltrated his family. © Those of you with half a memory will recall that the '98 Macpherson Report into the Lawrence murder concluded that the Met were institutionally racist (d) 20 years ago the police stopped me assuming that I was a black man. 20 years later I feel that I am more likely to be stopped if I was a young man of any ethnicity (dressed the way that I was in 1992). Whether that is the way that fashion has gone, or a change in culture, not sure. (e) Interesting that rightly we are more sensitive about the equal and fair treatment of minorities which (for sake of argment) are from the 'colonies', yet for some it seems to be fair game to mock etc romanies, Eastern Europeans and some other sectors of society (go and watch a Gillingham game and the opposition fans will have a whole range of songs about pikeys) (f) most of us in metropolitan environments don't have racist views, but I am sure that it is still there as soon as we move out of town. Not as bad, but still there.

Was going to say thank fick for that, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Is this (EDF) a commercial forum and similarly what about the new Forest Hill site? SE23.com is a personal fiefdom. I wonder how many have defected over the hill to post on this site. Mind you, porn (on the new site) is a USP

Discuss. They admitted they were two decades ago. Like society as a whole things have changed very much for the better. But this is an excuse for a story. I'm at the Red Rose Cabaret at a Stop the Gulf War I gig. I miss the last train home to Sydenham so get one to West Norwood. I am too tight for a taxi so decide to jog home. That day at work I decided to take all the crap that I had accumulated home. I had a large Brixton Cycles messenger bag to put it in, and was wearing a hooded sweat shirt. Running home with the bag over my shoulder, as it was a cold night, I had the hood up. A police metro drove the other way (yes it was a long time ago, for the younger readers a metro was a small rubbish English car). I think, wouldn't it be funny if it stopped, I'd ask it for a lift. And then two mins later, the cops had indeed turned round and a young police man, and young police women, asked me what I was doing. I thought 'great, a chance for a lift' and was only too willing to show them my swag (various rubbish from my desk). But when I pulled my hood up, they said "oh, we didn't realise you were so old" and lost all interest in me. Or we didn't realise that you were...... (in American terms a WASP)

OK so I don't know what craft beer is. And I have discussed this and read up on the subject. If I go to Belgium I can have wonderful Trappist beer, K?lsch in Cologne, Weisse beer in Munchen, blonde beer in the Alsace. And Czech Pilsner. All very enjoyable. And I love my English ales too. Not all of them, but many of them. English brewers helped set-up many of the continental breweries, so it is not a simple bottom-up, bottom down, fermenation divide. What I have detested for 30 years is the derrivative mass market rubbish that the majority of us drink. But hey that is what capitalism is about. Selling a product. And so onto my original post, if they can persuade the masses that there is a high quality product/brand, which they can charge more for, so much the better for the share holders. So back to craft ale. I think people are referring to a strong American style IPA that is sold by the bottle or as a fizzy keg. Certainly not what I define as ale, but probably OK on the odd occasion. I was drinking Meantime donkey's years ago before 'craft ale' was invented. And some of the small regional brewers may say 'yep I'll have produce some of that product and have a share in the profits'. But from the discussion you are also using craft ale to describe the real live cask ale that some of the small brewers produce. And certainly if it comes out of the barrel it will be as such. Well at no one isn't championing pear raspberry Swedish zyder. PS Sainsbury's are doing reduced bottled beer at the moment including the lovely St Peters.

There's actually an interesting 'post' about the London plan. I went to an open event about the TfL's Roads Task Force on Monday. As a London cyclist of over 25 years, we are, and will remain, a minority. London is expanding both in terms of business and people, traffic is increasing, and at best congestion will stand still (no pun intended). I am a member of Sustrans, LCC and Uncle Tom Cobbly and all and whilst it has got much better, and there are so many more cyclists on the street, most don't, and some see us as Mr White Van Man who started this thread. Worse still, I cycle to the outer boroughs and it is far worse. My contacts in Bromley think bikes are only for kids or holidays. I'll keep trying, but I doubt whether we will ever become Holland. Or some of the wonderful German towns like Cologne where there are brillaint cycle routes.
-
So let me see. How would you ban cyclists from the road? Would this need primarily legislation, current national powers (eg local roads could become part of the Strategic Road Network and be designated as motorways), or under local traffic order powers? And who would take this decission - elected local politicians or national government. And how popular would this decision be? A vote winner? I dont't think even UKIP are that insane. And where would this stop - clearly pedestrians would have to be banned, otherwise cyclists would simply carry their bikes. And there are no doubt certain powered two wheelers that are not classified as motorbikes, so they would need to be included. I can't be asessd to read the rest of this thread so assume that is utter tosh, a wind-up or someone who has some serious behavioural issues. Anyway, assuming that it is genuine, your first task would be to write to either your MP, asking him/her to raise with the Transport Secretary, or to your Councillor or the Mayor. I am happy to find out informally what the latter response would be. You could speak to the rabid right wing press, the Mail being the obvious first choice, or try Clarkson who writes for the Sun. (warning, he is not the mesiah, just a very naughty boy. An alternative is Tony Parsons, another abnoxious arrrrs who seems to hate cyclists.

Perhaps someone can explain what twerking means. I assume that it is some rude dry humping dance. It was once called the lambada I am sure, the White Horse in Brixton (RIP). And what are Jaegar bombs. And what is the point of Red Bull? And most importantly what is this craft ale nonsense. The world cleary has gone mad, with the exception of you and I, and I am a bit suspicious about you.

Emperor's new clothes, that is capitalism for you, sell you product that you never knew you needed at a premium First it was Watneys Red Barrel Then it was Skol/Carling whatever Then Oirish red ale Then SE Australian Shiraz (zzz) Then alcopops Then bottled beer with a lime it it (we used to call in lager and lime) And then Belgium/Swedish/Oirish cider, cider and some sort of rasberry jam and worse still perry relabeled as pear cider for some of you morons! Always thought 'real ale' was an odd name but wtf doew 'craft ale' mean, apart from an exucse to brew over-flavoured ales that make American beers appear subtle, and Belgium beers weak. And I do read and take note of the argument. And Mr Lawrences was superb even before talk of this nonsense. Lecture over, you have been told, now sort yourselves out. I anticipate a rush of PMs thanking me for helping you see the light. Try the Oakham Ales, and if you can't manage the Market Porter because it is too trendy nowadays, go over to the White Horse at Parsons Green. And of course the best pub in SE London/London/England/the UK/the world, the Blythe.

What have Sean Bean, Michael Palin, Richard Carborn, Paul Heaton, Martyn Ware, Jarvis Cocker, David Blunkett and some hairy blokes from Def Leopard got in common? Well two things, they are all from Sheffield and they all support one of their local teams. It is like that if you are growing up in Newcastle, Sunderland, Leeds or Manchester. So what is that cocker Seb Coe doing watching Chelsea. Now I could almost excuse many of you lot for not supporting your local teams, due to lack of identity in modern day London. But someone who grows up in a proper Northern working class town?

Not observing things anymore, nor cherishing the memory. Instead seeing things through the eye of your smart phone and then having to share this with everyone you know three steps removed. Worse still, being interested in what others are sharing on social media. Ironic, that I am using social media to share my hatrid of instant information and social media.

Give up and plant artificial grass. You will need to dig up metres of soil, lay drainage, put down tonnes of good top soil and then seed or turf. I've tried everything, and still have a garden that is soggy half the year, and cracked the rest. Good for moss but not grass.

This just get's better: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2436626/BBC-criticised-forcing-Robbie-Fowler-make-air-apology.html I of course fully support the Daily Hate's view that women, and women's football, should be denigrated. Good old traditional values. That's what made the Empire. All went wrong when women were encouraged to work during the first world war. They will want votes next....
