We are in "one of UK's best places to live" 🤣

Franklins was a wonderful antique shop/treasure trove I recall in Camberwell, that later on had a secret garden, before Mr Franklin took over the aforementioned former pub. https://arounddulwich.co.uk/franklins-20th-anniversary/ Ahh https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5757-franklins-ah-now-i-get-it/ -
ULEZ expansion ruled lawful by High Court
malumbu replied to megalaki84's topic in Roads & Transport
Found this interesting article on Mayor Khan being found not guilty of bringing mayoralty into disrepute over anti-Ulez protester remarks and similarly an accusation of bullying, following a meeting in Ealing last year. His comments refer to the conspiracy theorists who attached themselves to any measures to reduce pollution and carbon emissions. We have a few of them in my street, who also don't believe in Covid, vaccinations and the like. Hooray for free speech. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/sadiq-khan-ulez-protesters-joining-hands-with-far-right-ealing-meeting-b1124552.html -
Daft trying to enforce a 5mph speed limit, you'd have to ticket runners too. Haven't you had enough of looking for every reason to criticise cyclists? Bike hire is a great concept, obviously a few rough edges to sort out. Cycling has numerous benefits, a few cyclists do things that upset you. There are worse things in life. Back to the suggestion, how would you enforce an unenforceable speed limit?

Cars hot heavier many years ago to meet safety regs mainly to protect the occupants. The move to heavier SUV type vehicles was later, due to marketing/induced consumer demand and in terms of Ford dropping the Fiesta model a silly decision. Shame that some manufacturers swapped a ICE SUV for an EV SUV, Jaguar, Volvo, Audi etc

Following the increase in confiscation of illegal ebikes thought that this would be an interesting topic to discuss
-
Here we go again, another thread that has turned into an anti cycling one. Why oh why for a number of you are cyclists public enemy number 1? Anyway to go back to the original thread, I suggest that you contact Lime to enquire if their bikes can go above the legal limit of 14mph. I have no idea on whether you can override this, I couldn't find any boy racers on YouTube doing this, As for illegal ebikes, whether they are those already not allowed on the road (twist and go) , unless the vehicle is registered, taxed, insured and the rider has an appropriate license (as they are electric motorbikes) or those that have been modified, they are not pedal cycles, and should not be compared with them. I'm sure there was a thread already on concerns.

Dulwich Village CPZ Statutory Consultation
malumbu replied to Charles Martel's topic in Roads & Transport
Irrespective of your position you must agree that opposetheCPZ.org are a pompous lot - we demand this, we demand that To state "We share the Council’s objectives in the Streets for People strategy to reduce traffic, improve air quality and enable safe cycling and walking." without proposals on how to deliver this is disingenuous at the best. -
Such a shame the Odeon and bowling at Surrey Quays has gone
malumbu replied to Rockets's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I expect few on this site can lecture about the evils of gentrification, as we live in a very gentrified area and many have benefitted from this. It's good to poke fun, self- deprecating. There is a wider discussion on affordable housing, which the new government needs to address. Meanwhile as rental costs and cost of housing goes up many will move to outer boroughs and beyond. Lounge talk though. -

Odd comment about high end development at Surrey Quays - when the docks went most of the area became very gentrified, thirty plus years ago There's the odd bit of old school working class left. Go a mile the other way, and very old school, but I don't see anyone reminiscing about closed pubs off Trundleys Road and the like , the loss of New Cross Greyhound stadium or the Venue -
And, within limits of your own personal safety, go and have a look. The presence of an onlooker can deter an attack or de-escalate a domestic argument

I think you are talking about the gangs of Bretons that would cycle selling onions and garlic. There is a wonderful museum to 'Johnny Onion's in Roscoff, well worth a visit and you can indulge yourself in Breton music whilst you are at it. Although I thought the French onion sellers died out in the 50s -

I visit Decathlon from time to time but as others have said regards to the cinema there are good alternatives nearby and London desperately needs housing. Separately it can be horrid and congested in the area, although I only ever cycle or use public transport to get there. There are some lovely walks in that area, obviously the river, but also Stave Hill and the other green areas that were formally small docks. You can continue the walk to the farm and then onto the Dog and Bell at Deptford for lunch. -
I didn't know that Dave Hill of Slade was also into local politics. His band mate Noddy champions cycling:

Recommendations for good African restaurants in the area?
malumbu replied to Katherty's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It's a large continent with very different food, what does OP want? West African, North etc etc. -
Nissan leaf and other medium/small EVs well below 2 tonnes. The motor industry has been supersizing cars for years and we buy them whether we need them or not

Children cycling on the pavement , and cycle training
malumbu replied to malumbu's topic in The Family Room Discussion
If the road is residential with light traffic then it should be fine for children to cycle on, dependent on their age with or without adult supervision. West Sussex offer family cycle training: https://www.westsussex.gov.uk/roads-and-travel/road-safety/one-to-one-cycle-training/ Year six's should have also had the opportunity to have cycle training at scool: https://www.westsussex.gov.uk/roads-and-travel/road-safety/cycle-safety-courses-for-schoolchildren/#level-2-term-time-course And they also offer holiday courses and advanced children's courses: https://www.westsussex.gov.uk/roads-and-travel/road-safety/cycle-safety-courses-for-schoolchildren/bikeability-level-3-booking-form/ Finally the school should have a travel plan to reduce the reliance on being driven to school and increase active travel. -

You've missed out gridlock 24/7 due to the incompetence of the local authority and disproportionate influence of righteous cyclists. A greengrocer and the Christmas queues already forming outside William Rose blocking the pavements. This place sounds dreadful. I'll not be visiting. Well not today. Maybe Saturday. Although could do with some secure bike parking. -
it happens, no domestic circuits burned out, or planes fell out of the sky.

West Dulwich LTN Action Group - needs your support
malumbu replied to Rashmipat's topic in Roads & Transport
I'm bored of the LTN posts. Not really discussions are they? I expect the challenge to be unsuccessful, and that elsewhere the development of the Court Lane junction be a success. Even more measures please, including schools taking rougher action. I'm a fan of Lambeth and hope that my other local boroughs, Southwark and Lewisham do more. Not so hopeful about Bromley and Croydon ...
