  1. Difficulty is that many want EVs to fail and will look to any scrap of news to justify their views, aided by some of the rabid mainstream and social media. Similar to people looking for dirt on LTNs and ULEZ. I've test driven quite a few EVs, a hydrogen FCE and PHEVs and they are great, as is the new 63 bus. Still don't want the streets full of EVs as well as the current ICEs on unnecessary journeys.
  2. Mine was a relatively trivial complaint, not worth their time looking into and easier to send me stamps as compensation. Royal Mail is a regulated former public utility. They have to have complaint procedures and if this fails you can go to dispute resolution. It takes as much time to find this out as to post a new thread on the forum. Details on complaints: www.ofcom.org.uk/complaints/complain-about-postal-services/royal-mail And if this can't be resolved dispute resolution www.cedr.com/consumer/postrs/ Royal Mail and Parcel Force have a difficult future ahead due to declining mail, and for parcels competition from other companies - they are (or at least weren't) allowed to offer things such as home pick up and the like, so government in privitising them tied one hand behind their back, Now if you think all of this was wrong, that ownership should be taken back into pubic hands and a first rate services subsidised by the tax payer then please do write to your MP. Otherwise I expect it will be just managed decline.
  3. Family member had bath re-enamelled, poor job, soft, probably not cured properly. Offered to put another layer on but needs to be done again. Probably best to get money back and replace with a pressed steel one. Any experience? Good and bad. It appears to be a niche service with no trade body. Obs will check out trading standards. Not in London.
  4. Heavens we are in a grump today and the sun is 🌟. I complained over a relatively small issue and was compensated with some stamps almost immediately. It wasn't a significant matter, but go through the complaints procedure first before the courts. And I've been through the courts a few time in my life
  5. Oh just become an environmental journalist Rocks. You know more than most of them, and ditto for academics.
  6. When on earth will we get the Eureka moment that there may be a valid point Rocks? Do you ever see the counterargument rather than dismiss everything out of hand. A perfectly valid question. You can't even acknowledge nice infographics.
  7. Oh dear Penguin, down the manufactured culture war nonsense. It's not cars and motoring that bothers me, it's the whole entitlement stuff. And roads were designed to carry a variety of road vehicles from donkey to 44 tonne attics. Ie to transport goods and people not as a car park.
  8. Air quality is a Defra responsibility. But the powers are with local authorities. Be honest, you want ULEZ, CPZs, LTNs all to fail and scores of labour councillors to quit. It's a shame that the CLP and its leader haven't got any guts A simple question Rocks. Is it right to charge the most polluting vehicles to drive in urban areas. A yes/no will suffice
  9. Rather a toxic original post. We've all had annoying stuff, bureaucracy, jobs worth's etcbut if there are strict rules and conditions on ID then tough.
  10. Excuses excuses excuses. Convenience if schools needs to be in the equation ie go to a local school unless special needs dictate otherwise But what do we get from so many of you. Excuses and more excuses
  11. Rocks some facts which you chose to ignore. 40000 deaths a year due to poor air quality. Major street level source of nitrogen oxides and particulate matter is road traffic, particular diesel cars. Government failed to meet air quality standards and ordered by the supreme court in 2015 to sort air quality out ASAP. Government introduces the concept of Clean Air Zones. Johnson jumped the gun and announced the ULEZ before case went to Supreme Court. So ULEZ/chargeable clean air zones are government policy. Which has to be done as the courts told them to act. So it doesn't matter who likes the or not. And the Extinction Rebellion bloke is just odd as he has described many of his members. Facts, don't let the get in the way of your prejudices. 14 days to go.
  12. Simple, don't drive your kids to school. I expect most of us weren't driven to school.
  13. 14 days and counting. It's happening, get used to it. And for heavens sake this is not East Dulwich, why on earth are you bothered about the outer boroughs?
  14. Nice title of the thread, clear to all. Titling a thread is worth a thread of it's own. I don't do takeaways but I expect that most Chinese food establishments have their own trained delivery cyclists, on road legal bikes, and have taken advantage of the great cycling networks around here. A win win win. Thanks all.
  15. Do me a favour and change the title to Chinese Takeaways as "Chinese" is rather a broad subject and makes me want to post about human rights, the environment and the like.
  16. Odeon has 'Silvers' for those over 60 https://www.odeon.co.uk/silvers/ (closest probably Beckenham) as does the Picturehouse in ED www.picturehouses.com/event-details/0000000095/silver-screen And a similar request a few months ago www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/326546-meeting-new-people/
  17. Bats at Horniman Gardens, and they may be seen in the general locality. Horniman used to arrange bat spotting but can't find anything on line and this may well have been cut years ago.
  18. Anyone want to buy any of my organs? I need some money to lunch at Gail's I'll put something up on the for sale section
  19. Jamie Reid, artist (including cover of Never Mind the Bollocks) https://www.theguardian.com/music/2023/aug/09/jamie-reid-artist-of-sex-pistols-record-covers-dies-aged-76 Also a late shout up for our Trev (Trevor Francis), criminally overlooked for England (along with other West Midlands players) as a youngster playing for Birmingham City and all round nice guy.
  20. In deed Alice, generally this is not debating an issue but flinging mud. I try not to do this beyond the odd bit of banter which I expect is misread. Ultimately it's whether we agree that there needs to be action to reduce car use and if so what is the best option - any restrictions on roads and/or charges are probably likely to upset more people than they please, but most will get over it. There was a brief discussion on the right to drive vs the privilege. I think it was on this thread but who knows they all seem to blend into one. I firmly believe that drivers no longer have the right to drive what they want, when they want, where they want and how they want. Some of this is being addressed eg closing roads (which has always happened), charging schemes and even the basics such as speed limits and alcohol limits. The ULEZ, LTNs and CPZs, but there may be other options (and I started a thread on this that nobody posted on!). So I think your are either pro-intervention (whatever that may be) or believe that the status quo should be preserved. My brain is empty so hopefully this is my last comment on the subject (hooray!)
  21. I find your post really sad Rocks. There is a positive article about how cycling could increase ten fold post COVID. Could not will. And you are so happy when this 'non-commitment' isn't delivered. Just checking the cricket scores to see the shocking headline Rockets explode. I know you are angry Rocks but that angry? The I realised it was a reference to a sort of cricket match https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/cricket/66453604
  22. People are missing the point. Central government has to change their policies if there is to be change. As others have said they have no appetite for enforcement and little time for education hence illegal twist and go e bikes and e scooters will continue to proliferate on our streets and pavements. But looking at it from the other direction micromobility has great advantages in personal transport. It's probably in the too difficult to manage box leave it to the next government (not sure if Starmer has any better ideas). Pavement cycling is a nuisance but bothers others far more than me. For some it is that they are wrongly concerned about road safety, others just don't bother with rules. As long as this isn't dangerous then it's not a high priority for me. The endorsement of Deliveroo with their shady employment practices, turning a blind eye to illegal bikes, lack of proper training and not even making an effort to ensure that riders have lights at night shoes where the government stands. As consumers society is hardly sending a message that Deliveroo and others need to sort things out. I've not even referred to diet and poor health that takeaways are a major factor. Your time would be better spent lobbying your MP and government. It would be nice to get some appreciation of my thoughtful post. Go on make my day 😄
  23. The only reference I got to Corbyn and the ULEZ, was about his brother who attended an anti-ULEZ rally. Some light reading which will hopefully make you smile, beyond that I hope not worthy of further comment unless you want a separate thread on what is a far right group and what is a conspiracy theorist https://www.bbc.co.uk/contact/ecu/news-535pm-bbc-london-15-april-2023
  24. FM this means I've been cycling in Dulwich since at least the early 00s. In fact much longer. Yes I've seen many changes, drop handlebars are back, most of us now wear helmets, cycling infrastructure is much better, generally drivers are slower as 20mph. But I've not seen an increase in cyclists hassling pedestrians. In fact I don't think I've seen this at all.
  25. over 20 years of cycling through Dulwich Rocks, including 100s of hours when it was my regular commute. You may have seen me cycling there today. I really don't recognise this picture you are painting. We clearly live on different planets. Why oh why are you so angry about all these things?
