Trouble is Bic you could have express services stopping outside your house and some would still use the car
-
Nonsense I'm afraid. Just excuses. Not just perspective it is attitude. Hope you start to see things in a different way.
-
It's a matter of perspective. I use many of these services and feel I am well provided for. Live in many areas outside of the capital and you may feel the same. The Mayor's one hour at one price has made bus travel even more exciting

I was never a selfish parker. Just a nosey parker.
-
The problem is drivers. In fact the problem is almost always drivers. These drivers are parents but you don't need to be a parent to be a selfish driver. Write to the school and find out what they are doing to educate these drivers, I'd be interested.

Southwark News: Southwark Council has dug itself a CPZ-shaped hole

Love facetious posts. Nice one, fooled me for a minute. They'd hang you for incontinence and fiddling your tax (with thanks to John Cooper Clark), I've got some Seething Wells and Atilla the Stockbroker stuff in my head (two more 'punk poets') and back to angry of Mayfair - Kenny Everett -

Still using ours, not that I had to report whe I caught the lurgie for the second time. I'd you don't want you can give away on the forum -
Nope, we do try to take it in turns but Mr C sets a very high bar in terms of debate which I just can't match. Never really understood what 'rhetoric' refers to. I expect it is a casual insult. If it means my views are unfounded that is certainly incorrect. The facts are the UK is failing to meet air quality standards so needs to take more action as people are suffering poor health, some dying earlier and some if these cases could be avoided. So fact number 1, reinforced by the courts. Secondly climate change is, and will, screw up the planet. CO2 emissions have to be reduced. Fact #2. I frequently ask what are the alternatives to current and proposed measures. A question that is conveniently avoided by most. Elsewhere I was accused of wanting a dictatorship rather than a democracy. Thanks Ex for responding on this subject. If we put everything out to a referendum then we'd never do anything on the environment as someone is bound to be inconvenienced or have to spend more. We'd have bought back capital punishment, and in the 60s repatriated many who emigrated from the commonwealth. We'd probably even have voted to leave the EU, yes I know that sounds daft. Fortunately our elected representatives were more sensible, well apart from the last issue.

Well I believe in measures to reduce the numbers of vehicles on the road. I'll let others decide how best but the status quo can't be an option. This thread and similar ones have been slagging off LTNs, ULEZ expansion and the extension of CPZs for months if not years without providing viable alternatives.

Sounds a bit Orwellian. Do explain

A more courteous driver than most on the forum. Obviously I was born at another time in another planet when it was usual for young drivers to be stopped routinely by the fuzz and speed traps were far more common.

They wouldn't have got the money if they hadn't produced a case. Money was dolled out by TfL who I'm sure would have lawyers sign the case off. Do you know how national and local government do business? One only hears about the occasional case where government gets things wrong and is overturned by the courts. Usually because the policy was rabid such as sending asylum seekers to Rwanda. Let's have some other political discussions, far more interesting. So I've said a Brown government returning in 2010 would have already been charging the most polluting cars A Corbyn government? Think this would have been more disastrous for the environment than Sunak's current intentions. I reckon he would have not have coped with Covid but perhaps would have had a better back room team Ps this thread is about CPZs not LTNs or what if politics

Not in the Village as they all had off street stabling and enjoyed priority access to the track network.

I've had five speeding fines (two on a motorbike), points for a defective vehicle, one running the lights driving, 3 FPNs for cycling (although I may have got away with one of them), two FPNs for driving in a bus lane, and maybe a dozen parking fines the worst being clamped. Mostly in my 20s. I've not done any speed awareness courses, as many friends have I appear to be like a convicted criminal who is now lecturing others about behaving themselves. That's put the cat amongst the pigeons but I expect most posting have had their fair share of prosecutions/FPNs.

Too many dogs on the pavement, safer for me to cycle with the cars. Don't start me on the werewolves on London. Owwwwwooooh

He was an rrrsss, had personal dealings with Mick Jones' crook cousin. The new one has taken this to another level ie is an rrrrrrrrrssssss

ULEZ expansion ruled lawful by High Court

Some quite tough action on air quality in Brighton, which is good. Daft question on consultation Rocks. Do you want something that could inconvenience you. Most will say no. LTN and Toriez us about votes as you well know and something I've commented on, on that thread. I'm not changing my spelling as rebranding Tories would make them sound much more exotic. -
They are not allowed to go through red lights. It's up to the authorities to enforce. Similarly cyclists and scooters are not allowed to use hand held devices. But society has decided to focus on motorised traffic as this does more harm, and is easier to enforce as vehicles are registered. Please don't go down the licensing iof bikes nonsense All road users should be trained and there needs to be regular refresher training. I'll lobby my MP on the latter, you are welcome to lobby your MP on other issues.

Yes they do, in quieter times the Thames embankment cycle lane is used by runners. On Peckham Lane shoppers cross without looking. Countless times pedestrians walk out in front of me, either on their phone or relying on their ears rather than eyes. And on occasionally I have been guilty too. 😊 Ps cyclists as a rule should not cycle on the pavement

He's a spineless creep. That could be the leader of both major parties In taking forward government policy civil servants assess the costs and impact before the implementation is signed off. This is what happened when Johnson proposed LTNs. He then had colly Wobbles As The Mail turned on him for phase 2 which led to the condition of better consultation So it's been through two rounds plus the usual scrutiny by select committee, parliamentary debate, post implementation assessment, and ultimately the courts. As far as I am aware no judicial review has been successful so it is legal and local authorities are acting within their powers. He's doing this simply to get votes. Remind me if it says in the manifesto that government will prioritise cars over health and the environment. No doubt net zero and meeting air quality standards are government policy as is the legal requirement to meet carbon budgets. Careful who you side with. It could be like the Major government who went onto privitise everything. I'll conveniently ignore Blair

On that basis we should use much of our roads for electric scooters and bikes as these are the latest evolution in personal mobility. I don't expect in 1860 there would have been long lines of carts parked outside our houses.
-
Maybe he could get DfT to review private jet use, surely we all depend on these. What a slimy greaseball. Well I suppose he has got in before Starmer.
-
?? Confused me, all I did was refer to. Beautiful South song I rode both a Dutch bike and a tandem in The Hague many years ago.

Disappointed Rocks, we start to have a proper discussion and then you just go back to type. You agree on motorists then have to do a nah nah nah nah, what about cyclists. So (a)cars are around 20 times heavier than bikes therefore have much more momentum and do far more damage on impact (b) they emit pollution (c) they emit carbon dioxide Therefore that is why they are the focus of controls and interventions Those are facts which you well know It doesn't excuse cyclists breaking the rules but we are on a thread discussing poor driving Petty insults don't help. I go for full on ones!
