  1. Had the loose change for parking taken from our car parked in Worlingham Rd this afternoon. Fortunately, they don't seem to have damaged anything
  2. I ran a rope from inside the pot (knotted above the hole in the base) and tied it to a bush. Probably wouldn't have stopped a really determined effort, but would stop a casual grab.

    Air quality

Has anyone else noticed just how dreadful the air pollution was around Goose Green this afternoon? The smell of petrol fumes was really strong. I assume it's the result of the traffic being backed-up along LL and the fumes rolling back down the hill to the roundabout.
  4. How dealt with?
  5. And get rid of that horrible Madonna and child
  6. Got initially helpful directions from a man in Nunhead this morning who then went onto say he was a member of the local Neighbourhood Watch and could he come back to my house and discuss safety issues. Am I wrong in thinking this was a bit odd? If anyone knows how Neighbourhood Watch works, I'd be interested to hear.
  7. Should you ever want to run another competition, EDAG, there are several local camera groups who are used to running competitions on a regular, prompt, basis and who also have access to trained photography judges. I'm sure they would help if approached.
  8. Which annual cards, Sue?
  9. Still getting them and had the old favourite, the "Telephone Preference" this morning. In effect, just tell me your account number and dob and you'll be a safer person.
  10. Is anyone else being inundated with calls saying we're about to be cut off unless.... (at this point we hang up). It's been going on for days and we haven't been cut off yet, so a scam of some sort.
  11. I have grumbled about deliveries, but yesterday I posted a parcel at about 5.15 in LL and it was delivered in Surrey this morning by the first post. You can't get much better, on this occasion at least.
  12. Police hammering on the side door this morning

    Give and take

    Thanks, MarkT.

    Give and take

Does anyone know when the next "Give and Take" will be?
  15. People from other areas of ED park around the Goose Green area to catch the train. I've seen residents of the Upland/Overhill Rd areas park . Whether they'd be still entitled to after a CPZ, I don't know. So it's not just people driving in from outlying places to park here.
  16. What, in simple English, are "Visionary strategies"?
  17. Go to Deptford market on either Wednesday or Friday morning. There's several house clearance dealers who have stalls there who, I imagine, will give you a quote. I believe that you have to pay them to take things away
  18. The 40 driver was telling everyone that the 185/176s were only coming down LL, not going up it, but a few minutes later I've just seen a 185 going up. So no-one seems to know what's going on. Plus ca change, Rodney.
  19. Green woodpecker on Goose Green yesterday morning
  20. H. J Dyos's book "Victorian suburb" is all about this area, it's growth and development.
  21. The census (every ten years from 1841) will give you names. I would start at the John Harvard library Borough High St as they'll provide expert help on finding your way around the census and hold some actual papers for this area. Local libraries will provide you with access to Ancestry, which has census details, but it isn't always straight forward. I've found 1891 and 1911 (empty for 1891) for my house.
  22. It's the dropped kerb near the junction with Crawthew. On the left if you're coming from North X Rd. The double yellow line stops just before it (or after, according to your point of view) so people think it's OK to park there. I've seen 4 cars in one day ticketed there.
  23. Just passed by, the car there has got a ticket, so perhaps karma has struck (or whatever karma does). I'm surprised that there's anyone left in ED who doesn't know not to park across that kerb. I think the warden nests in the tree above, waiting......
  24. My husband just politely tried to warn a woman parking across the notorious dropped kerb in Lacon Rd. that she risked a parking ticket. Her reply? "F..k off and mind your own business" I hope she gets a ticket, but perhaps this is just meanness.
  25. What about all those camper vans for hire left on the road at the lower end of Upland Rd.? Are they using the street as a place of business?
