Yet again the Peckham one way system is being changed! Not being content with spending tens of thousands last year and the year before on the junction with Peckham Rye they are at it again.!!!!!! Long queues in both directions pedestrians dodging the traffic and tempers and anger from bus drivers cyclists and car drivers. Do we really need this disgustingly poorly organised road alteration? Why haven?t the PC Safety Busy bodies at Southwark council been down there and made the contractor setup a sensible diversion? (I know it?s because they are busy Christmas shopping and they don?t want to do anything to help a real danger / downer on us Southwark Council Tax payers)!!!!! Would it really be that difficult to create a safe Diversion? Remember when Thames water kept that 100% unnecessary contra flow in place on the rye, when they went back they just dug a small hole and finished the job!!! Will we need to see another fatal accident, before these incompetent road workers and road safety idiots finish on the one way system? I hope not!

Mugged on Oglander Rd - Mon 28 Nov 620pm
fazer71 replied to meshnylon's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I Just expect that I will be mugged when I'm on public transport so I Use / buy 1. Cheap Nokia Samsung etc phone ie less that ?50. 2. Don't carry more than ?40 and a debit / credit card with a ?200 limit. 3. Remember not to carry anything I'd be unhappy to lose for ever. 4. Wear a Swatch. Remember Police are unable to help and don't put up a fight just put up your hands if approached. Ladies best swap handbag for Sainsburys bag or nothing. I just can't understand why people think it's safe to walk the streets of London with ?500 smart phone a rolex watch designer shoes and all their cash and cards family photos diamonds and gold. Where on earth do you think you are living Monaco / Tokyo ? These thieving scum very very rarely get caught you only need to look at the police statistics. Even if they do as when my son was mugged the police are then unable to prosecute they lose the stolen goods in the care! Totally incompetent ! If you've little or nothing to lose you've little to worry about. -
Car was hit and run by tipper truck with no insurance!
fazer71 replied to micah627's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Similar thing happened to me in Nunhead hit by a scrap colector truck, in the end I claimed on my insurance and paid the excess But I wish I hadn't done that it would have been cheaper and less trouble to just pay for the repair myself as the excess was ?500 and the claim on my policy caused an increase in premium of ?250 the repair would have cost slightly less and I would have not had a claim on my policy. Yes you are supposed to tell the insurance company of any incident but in the end if you can't race the owner driver and even if you can financially and in terms of the aggravation it may actually be better to just pay for the repair yourself. -

Concrete House Lordship Lane - Public Inquiry
fazer71 replied to Zak's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
So Depressing to see that house every time I pass it I think what is wrong with the property law that mean it has taken 25+ years to get a solution and it looks like we're going to have to wait another 25 years due to incompetent impotent local government. Looks like it's going to cost us locals millions and for what? Surely the money would be better spent on real housing? At least it keeps the specialists lawyers and those with nothing better to get involved in, busy going nowhere. A disgrace! -

My experience of CPZ's in Clapham and Herne Hill are that they work very well as long as they are setup to stop commuters parking all day long. The best ones have all bays as pay and display from 12.00 mid day to 14.00 that stops commuters and keeps parking free for the locals and shoppers. It?s incredible how many parked heaps it clears off the streets and how much nicer the area looks after this type of cpz is introduced the ?125 a year is a small price to pay for a guaranteed parking and a nicer environment. Once it?s in in the ABOVE format ! Then you?ll be thinking wish we?d done it years ago ! -

Hi James I occasionally walk to Dulwich Village to get a morning paper, I have noticed for some time now that parking on the zigzag lines of the pedestrian crossing are constantly parked on by cars and delivery vehicles, I have witnessed several incidents where drivers have not been able to see pedestrians until the last minute. In my view it?s very serious and is only a matter of time before there?s an accident at this crossing due to vehicles parking on the zigzag lines. I have contacted Southwark parking and the Police several times and nothing has happened, every day particularly Weekends, drivers flaunt the zigzags parking laws and put pedestrians at risk. I guess this is not your patch but if you could talk to someone who is responsible that would be good. I seem to remember that it is an endorsement points on licence offence? Thanks -
For those of you who are interested I know I got back to the UK ages ago and I haven?t' been back to Rocca and posted my findings. The truth is I can?t bring myself to go back. I will try, promise.

James Difficult to prove if I could I?d be straight onto the Fraud Squad. My experience with Major works contracts on properties where Southwark own the Freehold and are responsible for instructing the works. 10?s of thousands are spent on unnecessary works at extortionate rates, it is obvious to anyone in the building trade that such rates are only possible if the Surveyor, Southwark Works Manager and Contractors are on a Major Carve Up. (ie Council Job!) It wouldn?t be so bad but often the quality of the work is below third rate and there is absolutely nothing that can be done. It?s incredibly hard to prove anything, but it is 100 % obvious that the contract values are inflated beyond reasonable and the finished works are substandard. It has been going on for years and costing Southwark council and leasholders a fortune. -
Must be a mighty big vacs. I think you could just break them up and put them in a green wheelie bin. Unless they really are for giants. Edit for quantity purposes

James Barber & peterstorm1985 Thanks points taken. If it's 100 metres long and requires night work piling at ?1,000 a pile that still only adds ?100,000 which ever way I look at it it's still IMO a staggering amount for a retaining wall. Maybe they meant ?1 Million for everything including the Lift etc. I wouldn?t be surprised if not as it?s possible to make any figure sound like sense except where someone overseeing is applying common sense some knowledge along with a mathematic calculus approach and is independent. BUT IF (as is likely) the rail contractor is on a large backhander with the Rail management as are the majority of Southwark contractors all working together to carve up the work with the Southwark works managers then there is no hope . We?ll be looking at the 1/2 Billion pound Rail Station Refurbishment next. -

That's some expensive wall! Are you sure that's the correct figure? How much is that per metre SQ or Cubic metre. Sounds like BS, a miscalculation or you / they are being palmed off. Even if it was 50 metres long and 10 metres high and it?s probably ? of that would be ?2,000 a cubic metre! Where it should be ?200! Or ?100,000 that?s a zero too many! IE ?900,000 too much? -
Maybe just because of this little heat wave and we have our windows are open that I?ve noticed the noise. This morning from about 5 am flights every 5-10 mins until 7.30 am then everything calms down and the flights become less frequent and less noisy. Looks like a case of flights bunching up to land after the earliest allowed time. Bloody awfull!

Are you the real Victor > Meldrew? > >:D< Asked for Karenina75?s OK as you?ll see if you read back see she said ROCCA was good in response to one of my posts you?ll also see where I like to eat out locally. FI Can anyone remember how awful Belair House was? I can remember having one of the worst lunches ever there and it was confirmed by spending the following day on the loo with food poisoning. I'm away on holiday for a couple of weeks so won't be able to confirm her findings until I get back to work.

MrBen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > This thread is getting really tiresome > now. Opening a new business is hard enough as is > it at the moment without all this tosh. All the more reason they should do their best and where ROCCA is concerned their best is not very good. Because nobody is prepared to say what they serve up is S$%T. If I ran my business like that I?d go broke. But they will stay in business serving up utter rubbish. Because there are so many people who will put up with their rubbish because they have a massive local community to continue walking through the door. Look I don?t like slagging anyone off I?d much rather be saying they are fantastic as I have said about other fine restaurants, where the owners and chefs know what they are doing and deserve high praise. They think as you do. If they make it look pretty they customers will go and spend. And yes in Dulwich village many will go and spend. I?m just being honest and it obviously hurts for some of you to hear my honesty.

I make a negative post about a S?$T resturant and you think I'm a knobhead. As opposed to all those who got to S&%T resturant and eat S$&T. MR Ben So you think Rocca is good? I've asked Kerenina75 if she thinks I should give them another try and have had zero response so from that I guess she thinks NOT! Calling me names isn't going to make the food in Rocca any better MATE .... just make you look like a (????)

Frankito Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It almost sounds like you have something personal > against them, in which case, they are never going > to win with you and then, it's all irrelevant. My honest experience is that the food was really really really poor and when I told them via email they didn't bother to reply. If the food is good then I'll be won over. Karenina75. So is it worth me going back ?

Blimey so you say it was actually good edible pasta, with tasty sauce? Have they got their act together? If you say so I'll give them another try, even though they didn't bother to reply to my email. I was told once the best pasta is made with high quality Durum Wheat flour. If it's still S&%T you know I'll let everyone know. So should I give them another go then?
