  1. I personally cannot stand celebrity culture, I have never seen BB or any of its ilk, and I would love JG to go away, unfortunately now she might go away in a way that I would not have wished on my worst enemy.
  2. I think the fact that she could have averted this makes it even MORE tragic, she didn't get treatment through fear and now she might face the ultimate sanction for that very natural fear. How do you think that must make her feel? Not only does she have to cope with the fear that she might die and leave her boys behind she has to bear the guilt that she could have done something about it.
  3. I know my way to Crystal Palace - then it would all be new! Problme is that it is up hill and down dale, hardly the easiest route in snow and ice conditions!
  4. Sean - East Croydon Louisa - Angela
  5. I'd better print out walkit.com and don my walking boots - I am a contract worker and can't afford any more days off......
  6. FelicityNormal Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Thieves are losers and this woman's crimes are > very, very minor. The problem with this woman is not that she is getting a fiver here and a fiver there but that she has created doubts in peoples' minds of who is and who is not genuine. I have been treated kindly when in genuine need (mugged) and was very grateful to the people who showed me this kindness, however if too many people are tricked by scams like this then a real case of need might be ignored
  7. I walked to and from the South Bank in 1991 and would have given a similar distance a go - however an unknown route and a distance of 11 km each way did rather put me off this time.
  8. I feel very sorry for Jade - she is a mother of two young boys and no matter what I think of her (lack of) talent, this is very sad. Although I feel that her continued desire to live (and possibly die) in the public eye * is incredibly crass (although probably a reflection of celebrity in the 21st Century), hopefully she can use it for good if she can show young women that cancer is not something that 'old' people get. It also serves as a timely reminder that all the celebrity and money in the world cannot always guarantee happiness and that we should be thankful for what we have. * although I fully appreciate that Jade wishes to make as much money for her children whilst she can do so, I do hope she is going to be able to finally take the step back to be a private person when it really matters.
  9. Bear also in the Telegraph

  11. Well now someone has gone and killed themselves sledging, and although that is obviously a tragedy for the family involved, I guess the councils can all say 'I told you so' - the dangers of playing in the snow!
  12. I'm not even Catholic (and am now agnostic) and start feeling myself obliged to go through the actions when I am in a Catholic church. Something about rituals maybe that I find comforting.
  13. Actually when I was walking last night, I found it slippier where people had cleared their pavements than where they hadn't.
  14. I gave up meat for Lent 22 years ago and never ate it again - so be careful!
  15. I've lived here more than 20 years - I've seen lots of changes, some of which I like and some of which I am not so fond of. The old East Dulwich Tavern used to be a bit of a dump as indeed were the Forresters, the Lord Palmeston and the old Magdala - so in that respect I prefer what we have now. On the other hand there are IMO too many chi-chi shops. However it is still a lot better than many other places - although the past couple of days have made me realise just how dependent we are on our few bus routes and one train line.
  16. There's a bit of me that wonders if perhaps we all enjoyed ourselves FAR TOO MUCH yesterday and that we are now being punished for it! Smiling, laughing and enjoying ourselves - don't we know there is a credit crunch going on?
  17. Bit late for cg, but the 197 was running (albeit infrequently). I got to East Croydon by getting the 363 which was conveniently running up Barry Road to Crystal Palace and a 157 to West Croydon and walked the rest - mmmmmm only a mere 90 minutes.
  18. If someone would like to advise me on how long it will take me to walk to East Croydon, I would be willing to have a go as long as it is not more than 2 hours each way - otherwise it will be counterproductive. In the past I have walked to Waterloo, Blackfriars etc without worrying about it, but EC might be a trek too far. I might wish to be professional but I don't wish to be insane.
  19. This is a 'one off' - the worst snow for 18 years. I remember walking home from the South Bank in 1991, past buses that were moving at about 1 mile an hour along the Walworth Road. I then remember passing about 15 buses between Camberwell and Dulwich as they ground to a halt on the hill. All these stationery buses did is stop any decent drivers from actually moving. Louisa, I partly share your view, this is a 21st Century capital city, we should be able to keep running no matter the weather, but this is NOT Russia or Canada where such weather conditions are commonplace - this is South East England where such conditions are so rare we'll be talking about it for years. Incidentally I saw more smiling faces in Dulwich Park this morning than I have seen since the old 'cc' has hit. Perhaps it's a bit of the spirit of the Blitz!
  20. An Aston Martin DB5 - every morning I wake up and look outside the window to admire it, but it's not there - damn I just don't own one after all.
  21. I like Peckham although I would have loved to have seen it as described so eloquently by Microbite. You can see from the lovely houses near the station and elsewhere in Peckham that this was once a rich area, whilst the Victorian terraces of East Dulwich are very different. I have to say I feel safer in Peckham at night now than I did 15 years ago - whether that is because Peckham has changed or I have I couldn't say
  22. Sorry off topic but honestly *Bob* not all women like Ikea - some of us consider it even worse than M&S (although a very close call).
  23. I would suggest that whenever service of any kind has been above and beyond what was expected then a little thank you would probably not be out of place. So tipping a supermarket deliver should not be the norm but maybe in the circumstances your friend might have liked to show their appreciation.

Go into first shop that sells jeans, try my size on. Like it, buy it, go to pub.
