  1. If I was a wife and if I was bored I'd go to the pub, but if it had to be a shop I'd go to Green & Blue.
  2. Ferrari Dino in yellow - in my dreams.
  3. Just make sure you've had a nice close shave - I always think that a five o'clock shadow distracts from the neckline (ditto chest hair).
  4. Some of you forumites would be able to pick a fight in an empty room wouldn't you? I agree with every word Strawbs has said.
  5. Exactly ???? which is why I wanted to know whether it was for a special lady or for *Bob* himself - different styles come to mind....................
  6. Er - why? Are you thinking of buying a special dress for a special lady?
  7. I like Masterchef
  8. NOT all Wetherspoons are like the Kentish Drovers or the Capitol. Two in Exeter (I know some other forumites know Exeter) are excellent. Many of them have a large range of draft beers at very reasonable prices. When I went to a beer festival I chatted to the guys from CAMRA and on the whole they are impressed with the high profile that JDW give to real ales.
  9. Baburs is doing a Burns night do with haggis and they even have a piper 'addressing' the haggis. :-S
  10. Religion used to be a way by which man made sense of the world around them, it explained the sun and the moon, the seasons and day and night. Omnipotent beings were better than chaos. Religion also helped form a moral order by which man could live (although it played a huge part in social domination both within and between societies). Therefore religious beliefs and practices could be said to have a practical function. (Paraphrased from essay) However in the 21st century does religion still have any practical function?

Don't estate agents provide a service and employment as well? Frankly I have never used a bookies, and hopefully by the time we are out of this recession there might be a viable alternative to Estate Agents, but both are preferable to empty shops.
  12. " I scarcely know what happens in my society because I didn't know about a guy who was arrested four years before I was born? " I knew about the Moors Murderers and that was before I was born.

  14. "Why are people trying to defend estate agents? It's not just acceptable to be rude to them it's acceptable to key their cars and kick them in the shins (at the least)." Goodness what a lovely person you sound!

Like most denominations, you > can't fault their main intentions. Er 'saving' people - what from? Isn't that terribly arrogant - that anyone who does not believe in what they do are in danger and need to be 'saved'?

    Summer

Eeek SimonM - 2.40 summer of 2007, 1.99 summer of 2008, and now about 1.60. I do hope Sterling recovers a bit before you go.
  17. I find that I am doing the opposite. As I can't afford to eat out as much as I used to, I am buying better quality food to eat at home. I would rather do without new clothes, or a haircut than cut down on eating nutricious and tasty meals.
  18. I like my mother's idea of religion: go somewhere very beautiful, look around you, say 'Thank you God', enjoy!
  19. I went to one of these services in a Theatre to see a friend who had recently converted sing in the choir. I too saw lots of happy clapping and smiling faces, however when we all went for a drink afterwards the tone changed as I was told by friends of this "friend", now an EX friend that sadly I was going to burn in hell unless I changed by lifestyle. I am quite happy for people to believe what they want to believe. If if makes them happy then good for them, but please please don't tell me how to lead my life!
  20. "I challange any athiest or agnostic to complete the Alpha course and not change their thinking." I think that depends on your frame of mind when you attend, and where you are on the spectrum of believer-unbeliever. Some agnostics, who are, by definition, not sure where they stand, might well change their thinking, however if the same people went to a similar course run by Richard Dawkins style atheiests might change in the opposite direction.
  21. What Hisars do, they do well, however they do advertise Pide and Lahmacun, both of which I adore and have asked for in the past and also been disappointed that they don't do it. I too have pointed out that if they don't offer the dishes they shouldn't have them on the windows to a total lack of interest. You can get ok Pide at Tas Pide opposite the Globe - but I've never got Lachmacun in England which is a real shame.
  22. Huguenot Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Advertising MM, I'm the lowest of the low ;-) Come on - what about Estate Agents, Bank Managers and BB contestants. I'd say in advertising you are well up the feed chain from that lot.
  23. I agree with 2004 - I was in a temp job and foolishly got my partner to pick me up from Denmark Hill station - it took us hours to drive back to LL - it would have been better for me to walk and get soaked - mmmm nothing like hindsight!
  24. Burt Bacharach, Julie London, Procol Harem, the music of Rogers and Hammerstein and (sadly) Supertramp.
  25. Strawbs - funnily enough that was something that I wanted to moan about myself having nearly been run over yesterday morning by some grim faced woman who was obviously soooo important that 10 seconds of her time was far far far more important than my life.
