  1. Royal Mail bang to rights on this occasion. See picture - apologies for quality - it says "Delivered by Royal Mail" Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > sandyman Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > I've just got home to find a package addressed > to > > me that was too big to fit in letterbox. 2. I've just got home to find a package addressed to me that was too big to fit in letterbox. Not on doorstep, no red card left, package was on wheelie bin on the street - on the day the bin persons come. I guess I should consider myself lucky it wasn't nicked or thrown in the dumper.
  3. There was a red van parked outside our house for quite a while yesterday afternoon. I don't know what they were doing but a while after they had gone i went outside and picked up a soaking wet letter on the pavement for a house down the road. It looked like Wimbledon Football tickets - I hope the match hasn't happened yet!
  4. I've just ordered something from Virgin Media which I've been told should arrive within seven days. They obviously don't know what SE22 deliveries are like at the moment. Just as a sidebar, I'm not a lawyer, but in the recent David Beckham speeding case it seems as if one of the keys to his defence was the fact that the notice to prosecute did not arrive in time. If only he lived in SE22 maybe he wouldn't have had to employ lawyer Nick "Mr Loophole" Freeman to defend him, just point the DVLA in the direction of this thread. "Mr Freeman suggested the... matter could have been a case of poor postal service, citing a subsequent letter sent first class by Bentley to Scotland Yard which took eight days to arrive." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-45668735
  5. Fed Ex, DHL etc leave parcels with neighbours if nobody is in. I don't think Royal Mail does this but why not? I presume they would argue that it might add to their posties' workload but not as much as their workload will increase if everyone asks for re-deliveries because they can't bear to go to the Peckham office.
  6. Quite often had red cards through door when I was home and didn't mind the stroll to Sylvester Road to get me out of the house. If it now means going to Peckham because they aren't doing their job properly that's another matter... 7. Received a package Saturday evening through letterbox. Should've been signed for but postie didn't even ring bell. I guess they just wanted to finish round as quickly as possible. Can't say I blame them as it currently feels like an omnishambles.
  8. I think I may have seen him carrying a large crate full of what I presume was dusters etc near to Dulwich Library earlier. One thing I've noticed is that these sales people don't go door-to-door to every single house. Is there a reason for selecting particular houses or do they only do a few in each street so that they can get away quickly if necessary.
  9. Is this regarding an insurance claim? A few years ago some slates blew off our roof and we put in a claim. An assessor came all the way from somewhere like Swindon, opened his computer, looked at the windspeeds on the night in question and said we weren't covered - I can't remember whether it was because it was too windy or not windy enough butI don't know why he couldn't have googled "weather" from his desk in Swindon rather than come all the way to SE22 to do it.
  10. Just had to negotiate the curious left-then-rightish-turn from Turney Road to Calton Avenue. do people actually get paid for coming up with road layouts like this?
  11. Thanks - yes I've seen that, but as you say it only goes from Liverpool Street and does take 30 mins longer (assuming no traffic hold-ups). Normally I'd go to Brixton and pick up the stansted express at Tottenham Hale. The other option is going to Stratford by train/tube and getting a Terravision coach from there - it's cheaper and probably a bit faster too. ------------------------------------------------------- > If you check National Rail they are running a bus > every 15 minutes from Liverpool Street to Stansted > Airport. 12. Bit of a longshot but just found out Stansted express is not running this Sunday January 7. Need at be at airport by 9am, just wondering if anyone else driving or taking cab to airport at that time. Happy to pay share of fare. thanks

  14. Was in lounge ten minutes ago and saw red mail van outside - assumed they were delivering nearby. Walked out of lounge and "nobody-in" card left on doormat. There is no way they rang the bell or I would have heard it. Anybody else had this problem?
  15. I expect if you've got a dodgy credit card you can hire one and not return it without worrying about losing your deposit. Personally i think anyone who can cycle a Boris bike over Denmark Hill without stopping for a rest deserves to keep it. 16. This was a woman. When i told her we already donated to other charities she wanted to know who and how much. She then told me that my neighbours had signed up so i should as well. When I said no she then asked to speak to my wife*. It felt like very hard-sell, foot-in-door, double-glazing salesman tactics. *I'm not objecting to this because I make the financial decisions, as I don't. I objected to this because it felt like she wanted to work her way through the household until she could persuade someone to sign up. goosey-goosey Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > We had a Unicef campaigner knock on the door just > after the election telly bash started this evening > (so rather late). 17. Did anyone have a visit from a UNICEF person recently? Maybe I was not in the mood but easily the most aggressive person i've ever had on my doorstep. And that's including duster sellers.
  18. Thanks for the reassurance. As it happens I had to pop over to my elderly mother at the weekend to fix her cistern and took a couple of screwdrivers with me so this was on my mind again. i would imagine the chances of getting a conviction for finding a tiny screwdriver in the glove compartment would be pretty slim. And as it happens I often carry a small swiss army penknife with me, which i assume is legal but could probably do more damage in the wrong hands. rendelharris Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > sandyman Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > A while ago i had a problem with the lock on my > > car door. 19. A while ago i had a problem with the lock on my car door. The AA man showed me how to open the door with a screwdriver but warned me that if i was found carrying a screwdriver I could be charged with something (carrying a offensive weapon?). 20. Bit of a longshot but my bike was stolen from Herne hill station some time last week. It was a pretty knackered Ridgeback with a very torn seat so the only thing that is worth anything are the wheels. I was just thinking they may have been removed and the frame dumped - if anyone happens to spot an abandoned frame - or an abandoned bike please let me know. thanks PS. I've looked on Gumtree/ebay and i know about buying dodgy bikes in East End.
  21. Hang on - am I being a bit dense or does that mean if someone has two cars and parks car A in their drive and car B in front of their drive across their dropped kerb a warden could ticket car B because they wouldn't know whose car it was? (advance excuse, I've had a long day).
  22. MGJ 537L - although I imagine the first thing they've done is switched plates as CCTV cameras can flag up stolen vehicles. kford Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > What's the reg?
  23. I know this is the longest of long shots but our camper van was stolen overnight from Beauval Road. If anyone saw/heard anything at the time or has seen it around please PM us. Here's a picture - it's pretty distinctive. And pretty.
