Simon, it doesn't (or at least I don't think it does as I just made that up). I was taking the piss (out of BOTH of you). I do that. That's why I don't go and play in the Drawing Room very often.

M&S are losing money in all their other departments and are relying on their food sales to stay afloat but they're so far behind the curve now that by the time this is up and running there will be better and cheaper options everywhere forcing the brand even further downmarket and a few sandwiches, smoothies and overpriced microwave meals will not stop the rot. Didn't M&S using X-factor contestants to advertise stuff send out ANY warning signals? Woolworths MarkII coming up.

BWTY* *Mobile phone acronym meaning "Best Wishes To You", usually employed as a way of expressing one's assumed superiority over an adversary (real and/or imagined) by illustrating the refusal to end any disputative communication with "Up Yours", "You Can Stick That In Your Pipe And Smoke It"(archaic), or "You T#sser!" thus (theoretically) demonstrating a higher level of civility and a preparedness to laugh at life's brickbats.

Should the ED forum be just for people who live in East Dulwich?

This is why the tea cosies are so expensive - these shearers charge by the Yak... http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSziU2xfXH-MWSCZDfY4Gioga1QNwJ6W5iLJQAIM-uphvNBkz4lEA -

Dodgy is as dodgy does (eh?) and Redknapp's past involvement in transfers was allowed to be 'sketchy' by the bent b*st*rds that ran the club and ultimately couldn't wait to sell out to a pie-in-the-sky biscuit merchant... btw - why IS T. Brown honorary life president?!? Services to fuck- uppery?

This can be annoying but when vendors reveal they live in darkest Sydenham all one has to do is not go there and live with the disappointment. The flip side is that, in selling stuff via the forum, I have had people come from outside london and even sold something to a woman in Rochdale (all done via post and PayPal etc) so it's swings and rounmdabouts* *Swings slightly used, chain rather rusty, ?10. Roundabout in need of repair and comes complete with dying palm tree ?150,000. -

Well his track > record isn't particularly good if you look at > clubs like Portsmouth, Southampton & West Ham all > enjoying championship football after Harry's > ambitions. What rubbish. Steve Wigley got Saints in terminal trouble and Glen Roeder (allbeit as a patsy) got WH relegated nearly two years after Harry had rowed with the board and left.

Bring on the Blues/Tangerines... careful not to pick up any injuries before Wembley though - I think the final will be attrition over attraction.

We get to say 'Belfry Barge' as in "Have you seen the size of the bells on that Belfry Barge?" ...and/or discuss the current Belfry Barge and compare it with past Belfry Barges before learning that it is in fact a mere Herald Barge supposedly doing the job of a belfry and being thus known (informally) as a Belfry Barge... ...which will lead to wiki-ing it all out of sheer enthusiasm and excitement and discovering to votre horreur that- The word belfry comes from Old French berfrei which is derived from Germanic *bergan "to protect" and *frithuz "peace"; that is, it was originally a watch tower providing protection against hostile incursions. -and shaking our heads at the futility of it all and the laziness of Daily Mail sub-editors.

Kind of muddying my point there MM - I was using the example to point out that DD's argument (that people fought and died to get the vote so people SHOULD always vote) wasn't as clear cut as it sounded. People shouldn't vote out of gratitude for the sacrifice of the past especially as not voting can make more of a point in an age where democracy - such as it is - has become so debased and decadent. For many people - whether the zealots on the forum like it or not - voting is (as you put it) 'largely irrelevant' to their lives just as trades unions are. The arguments for voting as an imperative are ideological and based on theory (like what happens if we all jump up and down at the same time) and we all know the reality is (in this country) a two-party state with fringes that will plough the same furrows it has ploughed for decades regardless until and unless something cataclysmic changes that.

Or in a "I thought my vote would make a difference/count" so I went - and it didn't - kind of way. ETA: Perhaps people would be more encouraged next time if they were to bear in mind Lord Oakeshott's bemoaning the effect of the election results on the Libdems: "One more election like this and we will be in danger of no longer being a national party" - surely making that happen is worth a walk in the rain?

It was like Christmas... I waited for ages for it to come along.. then didn't get what I wanted. Still... it's all about the thought really isn't it?

Quite right, and about bloody time! I've had it with getting a half cup of coffee topped up with a tasteless white foam that makes my cup look fuller than it is - but is really just a rip off. Let's stamp it out and demand a full cup. Froth Away Now! (F.A.N.)

Gooners now have Toon and Tottenham poised to over-take them and leave them outside Champion's League places - also not the best news for Man City as Newcastle's game against them is even bigger now. Exciting finish to the season.
