  1. Is this why there are so many singles in the 'self checkout' queue? Indeed is 'self-checkout' the new D.I.Y?

Yes it's a bit of a disaster atm - but I'm not too worried. The stadium is awful and was always going to be and the change was bound to affect the team and those home losses have meant a drop in confidence leading to away form suffering etc etc. Add to that the injuries and the 'settling in' of new players and it's a kind of 'been here before' scenario, but once some work is done on the shocking defence and the players get used to each other and the shitty stadium atmosphere I think things will get better. Enough potential in the last 35 minutes to see that this is a damaged and leaky vessel rather than one going under.

  4. The Co-op is as unpredictable as Somerfield was before it but I've always found fresh veg (even if it is often hiding under the layers of bendy celery, yellowing broccoli and soft onions), some cheap goods and friendly - but thank God not obsequious - staff (the odd sullen youth excepted) - all in all exactly like the co-ops I remember from my youth. This one however does seem bedeviled by a managerial incompetence that regularly fails to communicate its produce-ordering whims and spontaneous layout changes to the bewildered staff which leaves them unable to answer "Have you not got any 'x' this week or have you just moved it again?". Sometimes wonder if the store is at the end of a 'run' and they get whatever's left on the truck.

I have all but given up on airing dissent re WH. When BFS was in charge I would have given almost anything for a change and at least we got that. I said at the time i would rather have lower league football of the right kind than PL the Allardyce way. I also said a long while back that I thought the new stadium would be an atmosphere killer with a feeling of detachment for lots of fans but it's done and there's no point carrying on - The one thing I really hate is the new badge. They've been tinkering with it for years but this shitty little shield looks like something you'd see on a pack of sausages. 'Hammer Brand, 100% Pork'. And putting 'London' on it shows the way the owners think - marketing and making money out of what they hope will become a more global brand. I bet there's a file knocking around Sulli-Towers marked "How we get the name changed to the London Hammers". Still, maybe tradition IS all bollocks and just for miserable old gits like me to mutter over in the pub and a whole new swathe of keen young fans will love it because it's easier to get tattooed. C'est la football eh?

    Bacon sandwich

Mick Mac Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- >> A bacon sandwich is a bacon sandwich - if it had > egg in it, it would be a bacon and egg sandwich. True, and I really should read threads thoroughly before adding, but I caught a glimpse of Brie and avocado and wanted to restore sanity and yolk stained shirt fronts to the debate. A good bacon and egg sandwich not only has a synergy that leads youngsters to want to explore the stars but is also the happy marriage of the old bacon sarnie and the egg banjo. It was the future once.

    Bacon sandwich

No one has mentioned the one sublime addition to any bacon sandwich - a fried egg. With white pepper. And toasted or untoasted is fine so long as the toast isn't thin crispy twatty toast that shatters but is instead fine thick buttered stuff, yes.

    Bacon sandwich

The old second hand/junk market that used to run around East street on Sundays back in the 80s had a van serving sarnies of collar bacon and fried onion in thick cut bloomer. Great hangover cure.

  17. True SB, but I thought calling it a 'Beaten Tart' was going a bit far...
  18. Can Tortilla become Spanish Omelette? Possibly still too European so (as you can't make a Omelette without Brexit eggs) 'Little Tart'? This could get tricky - best alt. trans. I've come across would be "Endearing Tart".

Maybe - but try telling that to Pelle and Payet and all the other Premier league players at the Euros - tell it to Gylfi Sigur?sson. England were poor in ALL their matches because they had no idea how to go about things - that's the manager's job. And they need an inspirational driving force as a captain because the current one - well, isn't. On a more positive note - Italy were great to watch.

Hodgson's tactics were non existent but you can't say they're responsible for Sterling being unable to pass a ball 5 yards with accuracy. Pointless dissecting it all (nahh we love it) but i can't understand persevering with Kane and Wilshire and Sterling when they all looked off their game. Iceland made it look easy. Now if only he'd taken Noble and Carroll.... :)

    EU Petition

This of course means allowing another Scottish referendum for the same reasons. And sooner rather than later. I always felt this was too close for any one side that won (whichever it was) to go steaming ahead without taking the feelings of those on the other side of the argument into account. Cameron made a mistake promising the referendum but may not have got his majority without it so he can sink. I think there needs to be a general election and a new government chosen that sets out exactly how it will deal with EU and what negotiations will take place and with exactly what aims. Once the electorate knows what those plans are a second referendum is probably right - all this should happen asap and before the 'button' is pressed.
  23. What *Bob* said (on both subjects). My, we live in interesting times. I understand a bid is afoot to twin us with Oceania if the paperwork can be finagled. That's the kind of blue sky thinking we need.
