  1. I'm basically with Louisa on this one. There are plenty of things happening in Peckham, and it's not like the White Horse is sitting empty like the CPT used to do all day. But the fact is the management are giving it up, so they are to blame for the fact it's gonna change. (I don't mean that in a nasty way) Would be nice if the new owners thought to themselves that there are now quite a few places around for the yoots, and perhaps they could cater for the older crowd.
  2. Kids ENT at Tommy's was running a good hour late yesterday. I looked around at all the bored fidgeting kids in the waiting room, and was transported back 30+ years to when I was forever at eye clinic at Kings. Hospital waiting rooms have got to be the most boring places ever for kids.

Sounds shit doesn't it?

  5. The game I spent most time playing (by far) was Oblivion. I have no idea how many hours, but it was A LOT. Oblivion was the predecessor of Skyrim. But Red Dead Redemption definitely in the top 5. Fable games are fun too. The original Fable was on earlier consoles, then 2 and 3 on PS3 / XBox 360. But then a year or two ago they released the original (updated) game on these consoles. It's great, as is 2. Not really played 3, it's one of a pile of at least 10 games that I barely scratched the surface of before parenthood stole my game time.
  6. There is one school which makes me laugh because it was designed by architects that specialise in prisons (seriously) and if you imagine any prison movie you've seen, with the central hall with staircases in the middle, and cells around the edges... Replace the cells with classrooms and that is this school. Must have rubbed off on them because they have the strictest security, never letting me through without being met by a member of school staff, even though they knew me by name and saw me every week. But still no metal detectors or CCTV in that school. At the end of the day, the vast vast majority of teens are fine wherever they grow up. Yes city kids may have more opportunities to go out and experience nightlife a bit earlier, but country kids will have experiences that city kids won't. And teens definitely get bored and depressed in London too, believe me!

  8. I work for the education department in an East London borough, and visit different schools all the time. Have never seen a metal detector, and only the very odd CCTV Camera, which seems perfectly sensible in a reception area IMO.
  9. I have respect for anyone that could sit in a pub all day and actually work, only stopping for pizza and pint at the allotted lunch hour.

That's because people suddenly forget they hate them when they are selling and Foxtons tell them they'll get them X amount for their property. So they go with them and buyers are forced to go with them if they want that property.
  11. Here you go, 2 hours left. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Red-Dead-Redemption-PS3-/261915529186?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3cfb61cfe2
  12. Ah yes. There's one of those by East Croydon station too in case you go through that way.
  13. Oooo, and another one I liked from rockstar...
  14. Agreed. With kettles you do not necessarily "get what you pay for".
  15. Find a cash coverters type shop (there is one on Penge High Street, probably one in Peckham or Camberwell somewhere). They do games dirt cheap. And yeah, any Game shop does second hand. And seriously, if you like GTA, get Red Dead Redemption, it's the nuts, and even has downloadable content of Undead zombies. Cowboys and zombies!!!!! Damn it, I want to play them now, but I do not get any gaming time at home anymore.
  16. Guess it all depends how much you use your kettle. We got one from Sainsbury's last Feb, and have just replaced it, so about 15 months. But we do use the kettle a lot in this household.
  17. Skyrim can be first or third person, and it's a MASSIVE world to explore. Anything by rockstar is good, including GTA (modern city criminal stuff), Max Payne (dark broody bloke who shoots lots of people), Red Dead Redemption (cowboys). All with very similar gameplay, so if you like one you'll probably like them all.

I also met "Londoners" like this at uni. Turned out they were from the very outskirts. But yeah, they all went mental in their first year doing all the stuff that a lot of us had speared out between 14 and 18. scareyt Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Many happy teenage hours spent on the top deck of > night buses home from the Venue in New Cross - > often somehow the most random and entertaining > part of a night out! If this was early to mid 90s I was probably on the same bus.

But if you're a BT broadband customer you can watch for free with the app or website. (unless they've changed things)
  20. When I was a kid and we'd do the annual trip to Devon I used to absolutely love it, and always felt that the country was a great place for small kids, but that by 13 or 14 you should be in the city.

  24. When I was about 14/15 and my sister 17/18 we went down to visit our nan in Devon (where she moved to before I was born, after giving up her pub in Peckham). I will never forget seeing a bunch of bored looking teens about my age all sat on the local rec ground. My sister and I were unknown faces so had no trouble getting served in the local pubs, but everyone knew these kids and how old they were so they stood no chance. That is no kind of life for a teenager, I was horrified! There was certainly plenty of drink and drugs when I was a teen in London, but we never had to get in a car and drive down dark winding lanes to get home. Instead we'd just sit on a night bus feeling the fear as our trips started wearing off. Happy days.
  25. Wasn't it a griffin?
