Trying to buy a house in this area is near impossible
Otta replied to Grotty's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
RD it's actually costing slightly more than renting but only because we're paying low rent (and in return our landlords do nothing to improve the property. once we're gone they'll defo do it up and start charging at least ?500pcm more). It's cheaper than current msrket rates for renting a simikar property in Sydenham/Penge. A LOT cheaper than ED rents. -

Trying to buy a house in this area is near impossible

Just had to the call to say I've completed on our flat in Penge. So I am now the proud owner of a whopping 7% of a property. And whilst it may not be the home I always dreamt of buying (actually I've never really dreamt about buying a home), I do feel very fortunate to be in this position. And I'm a 10 minute walk from McDonald's! ;-) -
Agree Quids, was just making mischief. I imagine they'd be a big team in the EPL, but there's been talk for years if it happening, but don't think it will.

I suspect I nay be knocked out.

Well done Arsenal today. Genuinely could have gone either way, good cup tie.
-
They'd lose out on any champions league money they're used to. Mid table at best.

I know a couple of couples that jave adopted recently (both got kids around 18 months - 2 years at the time if adoption). For one couple it went very smoothly and took about a year, that seems to be about the quickest. For the other couple it took 4 years, but she's a bit of a strange woman to be honest and I suspect she antagonised the social workers throughout.

Oh well set up AM, the okd master outplayed.

Or to turn it around, it's about the place changing around you. Seeing similar changes in Sydenham, at the moment that's a good thing as it needs some improvement, but I really think there comes a line, at which point I personally start feeling less like I belong in an area. I'll be in Dartford in 20 years time! *shudders* -
Dave Davies of The Kinks was not a great technical player, but he went for it like no one else back in the early days.

Maybe there's a point when the balance is > about right but I think you and Ratty just have > the old rose tinteds on... Possibly to an extent, but I just think it's a case of individual taste. I honestly walk in to somewhere like The Patch (and this is not anti patch) and PERSONALLY don't really feel comfortable / like I fit in. I'm more at home with spit n sawdust, it's just the way I was dragged up innit. -

This is why I shouldn't have used the term Middle Class. I just meant the gentrification of areas. It starts really well, then everything just gets samey. -
It's just gone 11pm and I've just gotten my 2 year old to bed. Wife passed out in bed with said 2 year old, whilst I stare at telly with a beer. Pretty standard night.

What gets me is the obvious opinion of the majority that a place is always improved bt gentrification. I live Sydenham but am starting to live it less. I'm about to move to Penge, and keep reading comments like "we've moved to Penge and it's really on the up. some lovely kittke cafes opening and littke independent gems". All of which makes me think that in 5 years I'll feel like I don't even belong there anymore. I'm "middle class" by sone definitions, but I really don't want to live in a middle class paradise because I find them desperately bland. Sorry for lazy use of "middle class" but it's an easy way to say what I meant. -
Agree that Katanita's post is spot on.

Well said, shame certain peopke are absolutely incapable of processing that.

This thread is a brilliant example of why people find cyclists bloidy annoying. Soneone starts a thread about a specific incident and even goes to the pains if stating that the person he describes is not typical, and gives cyclists a bad name. Then along come the cyclists who don't even mention the story the OP was telling, but jump straight in to "we're not as bad as drivers". This thread wasn't even about his cycling, but about him acting like a twat. I'm not a motorist or a cyclist, but when I read threads like this I find myself turning against the cyclists. perhaps they should stop being so holier than thou, and they might find people happier to talk with them about how we csn make the roads safer.

Just hope it's better than their previous bout!

I read Old Trafford or Emirates. But either way, it should be a goodun! Another thing I saw recently that was interesting was that Mayweather is going to let fans decide whether he fights Khan or that other fella who's name escapes me right now.

I just about managed to stay awake for the pool (thank God they were on first) before passing out on the sofa. Yeah, very pleased to see them win that in that style. That's exactly the sort of match they'd have lost in previous years (or last week even). I was also pleased to see Gerrard afterwards acknowledge that they'd dropped 2 points and missed an opportunity last week, and that they couldn't afford mistakes what with Spurs breathing down their necks (very good result for them last night too!).

I was working with a woman recently who had refused the procedure as a child in Ghana, and as a result, she was basically betrothed to this bloke as a 9 year old and given to his family more or less as a slave (to make sure she wasn't off having sex with someone else. After years of mental abuse at the hands of the family, she moved here with her husband, who immediately started beating the shit out of her. Very sad state of affairs.

I was thinking the castle. I Know it has the footy, but it's not usually rammed and too noisy to chat.
