PROBABLY Not real in terms of reported sightings, but surely possible given how tiny we are in the universe... Ghosts. PROBABLY Not real I bet you can't wait to ruin Christmas for your kids and put them right! ;-)
  2. It's great that under 12s go free, loads of kids around, building the support of the future.
  3. Indeed. I went for the first time in too long on Saturday with my daughter, and intend to make a regular thing of it. Some quality players in the team, and a much higher level than 10 years ago, when the most entertaining thing was betting on how many times the ball would be kicked over the fence.

    Nice result tonight though.
  5. so, we're packing to move, and my wife just comes in to the room carrying a book and says "do you know anyone who might want this monstrosity? ". It's "Jamie's Great Britain: Over 130 reasons to love our food", it was a free gift from the book people. I thought Mick might like it. Seriously though, if anyone wants it let me know.

Haha, no. He's just donated some of a week's wages to a good cause.
  8. Virgin trains was ?17 return in those days as long as you booked ages in advance and got a specific train.
  9. I got it SJ. And Runcorn makes me think of Runcorn Bridge. When the train got to that bridge I used to feel like I'd arrived home (when Liverpool felt like home).

Hi Saied, I'm not getting involved with this at all, but should just point out that Admin is not employed to run this forum, they do it out of community spirit on their own time, so you may need to be a little patient.

Yeah I was only 8, but remember everyone being really upset by that. He used to go to all the schools and we all knew him and said hello when we saw him on the street. Very sad.

Just found the website and it's free to under 12s. Cool, wonder if the wife will let me go...
  13. Exactly. This thread wasn't meant to be a "ED was better in the old days and it's not good now" kind of thing. I openly admitted in the OP that I was wearing rose tinted glasses looking back at a different time in my life. But the fact remains that for me, those were the best days, and if I had no kids and money to burn today, I don't think that I would enjoy ED as much, because the sort of places that I like are no longer there. And the places that are there now are now really for the likes of me. That's cool, I can live with that. I do think however that people are paying absolutely insane prices to live there, and it's not worth that sort of money, but that's up to them.

Can anyone tell me (BR?) if it costs anything to take a child to Dulwich Hamlet. I know it's a tenner to get in, but is it going to cost me ?20 to bring my 4 year old? (in which case I doubt I'll bother).

I just mean that "working class" and "middle class" doesn't define the majority of people well anymore. I honestly don't know what working class is anymore, and if I'm middle class, which I am by some definition, why are my circumstances so different to other middle class people? It's like having boxing where everyone has to be either heavyweight or lightweight.
  16. Well summed up Kristymac1.

Personally I think ed is better now (esp for > my time of life - kids etc) than it's ever been. Camberwell was defo the place to go out in early 2000s. Red Star, Funky Monkey, Silver Buckle. Oh wait...
  18. As someone that was born in 78, I obviously don't have the pub memories of Louisa and GSJ57 from the 70s and 80s, but I do remember being around the CPT a lot because my dad worked and drank there, and I've said to him many times that it felt like a real community back then in a way that is probably gone for good in London now. Interestingly, I'm Facebook friends with the majority of my primary school class, and not one of them is in the area today.

  20. Wow, by the time you get to 20 years you'll be in heaven.

I don't know where I'd hang out if I was 10 years younger. Can't imagine the younger me enjoying Adventure Bar or Bohos very much, guess it would be the EDT.

But the problem is that when the *"middle classes/Gentrifiers" come, prices rise, and the other realities move on because they can't afford the area anymore, and they feel less and less like they belong / are welcome. * Middle class is such a lazy term, and I strongly believe that working class / middle class doesn't fit today's world, but it was a quick way of saying what I meant.

  24. But anyway, back to Peckham...
  25. Oh absolutely, and I'm not above a bit of stereotyping. But then I don't pre judge "immigrants" because they're different to me, and I have no problem with them and largely welcome them. There are certain groups of immigrants that I prefer to others because they just seem nicer. And I've no problem with upper middle class people because they have more money than me or anything like that. I've just met enough that I thought were horrible to colour my opinion a bit.
