Philip, would it really have made a massive difference had you been admitted straight away rather than a few hours later? Not being a smart star, just asking a genuine question. Your story is not a good one, and I'm sorry to hear it, but perhaps they've improved greatly over the past 6 years.

One of my good pals is a police officer, and through him, I've met qite a few. I admit, that for the most part, they're not my kind of people, and some of them are just plain thick. A couple have even said "I'm in it for the action, which made me laugh. However, that doesn't mean that they're all blood thirsty nut jobs who can't wait to gun people down, or beat them to death in a cell. I'm not a big fan of the police, I don't like how they do a lot of things, and I believe that they watch out for each other, and cover things up. HOWEVER, I don't think they're rotten to the core, and I suspect that when the details of this incident come out, they will show that they had little choice but to put this guy down.

I have seen photos of a younger Jah Lush, and there is qute the similarity with Pete Doherty.

Regarding Kev the plumber, I'm not saying it's cool to cheat, and put fake recommendations up, but it's only a guy trying to get himself some work. I think " Please do not use a business who has to lie to get work from you." is really harsh, being as we're talking about a person's livelihood. It's not like he's robbed all his customers, or kidnapped a child or anything! Just my opinion, but I think deleting the offending posts, and banning him would have been a reasonable response, rather than actively trying to convince people not to use his services.

I think LadyD that you are desperate for the police to be in the wrong here. You may well be correct, Christ knows there are some big lies with the police. However, I don't see how one lot of speculation can make more sense than another lot. I am sure that things will be clearer once the dust settles. As for the looters, total scum.

Back to the original question. No, I don't think it should be extended. It would just become some thing going on un the background, which people started ignoring. Big weekend, then put it away til next year. I do think the policing bill is insane though, especially at a time of cuts to services.
