So on the Martin McGuinness thread (which I will not repeat here, go and read for yourself if interested) it was suggested that whilst it is good to know history and learn from it, there are times when we can be held back by it, and when it might be best all round if we let go of it in order to move forward. Discuss.

Making friends and influencing people there Mick. Rendel and Joe have both kept calmer than I did, for which they deserve credit, but Joe's post a couple up is exactly how I see this thread. If you're not knowingly antagonising or trolling, then, well I don't know what to say. No one has ever said on here that the British government (not quite the same as "the English") and some of their representatives didn't act appallingly, and no one has actually said one side was right and one was wrong. What people have said is whatever he did later in life (and it's debatable why he took that path), McGuinness once choose a path of violence, often completely unnecesary violence for violence sake. That doesn't mean he was the worst, or that there weren't some right nasty loyalists. But we're talking about him.

Garages and workshops the country over will soon have Page 3 Calendars back on the walls.

The argument had already been well addressed by rendel. And I make absolutely no apology for what I said, whether it was playing the man or not. I totally accept similarities between the two situations. But please don't insult the memory of Mandella by trying to claim similarities between the men, especially during the earlier part of their lives. There is nothing to suggest that Mandela was ever a nasty violent thug that liked the power of hurting people and having them hurt. Mandela led his country to some sort of peace. McGuinness jumped on a bandwagon. I believe that all you are trying to do with this whole thread is antagonise just to give yourself a cheap little thrill. It's quite a nice bit of trolling, but frankly beneath you (or maybe not).

Go your way. Yep, not big, not clever, but about as much as your "intellectual" fantasy deserved.

Although had some nice summer evenings outside, that's always been it's main pull.

Can't comment on the 70s, but disliked it from the early 90s onwards.

Southwark Plans for Camberwell Old & New Cemeteries.

This is the whole problem. It's certainly not that there is no discussion to be had about a lovely place. But these twerps are just making a mockery of... well everything. -
Yeah The Clock House has always been shit.

Any recommendations for places to stay in Birmingham?
Otta replied to Robert Poste's Child's topic in The Lounge
I stayed in the Premier Inn on Hagley Road a few times l;ast year. It's your standart PI joined to a Beefeater (with through door) where breakfast is served. 10 - 15 minutes bus ride to New Street. So not exactly central, but very easily accessible. -
In short, don't be fucktard Rodders.

Given the huge trend towards zombie movies and tv shows in recent years, I think SSW's next tact should be to convince Southwark that disturbing these graves could potentially unleash a zombie apocalypse on East Dulwich and Honor Oak. They could submit a YouTube link to the Thriller video as evidence. It would have about as much basis in truth as anything else they've ever tried. -
Mick I think it "might have been better" for everybody if you hadn't started this troll edged thread in the first place. Chapel of rest would have done the trick.

Totally agree with all of this (including the bit about unfair criticism of the bbc). But still think it's good that people are showing that they don't want it. They have EVERY right to voice their opinions, and Theresa May and her gang must absolutely not be allowed to take us out with the message that it's what "the British people" wanted. I don't believe for a second that it will be halted, but I will never accept that something this big should be done off of a 52/48 split. It's a recipe for disunity.

No. British soldiers still on occasion behave badly, it's still not okay. And it still doesn't ecuse or justify anything. Taking people out of their houses (in front of their kids) and executing them for trying to help someone, that is not justifiable if done by the state, it's not justifiable if done by the police, and it's certainly not justifiable if done by a jumped up bully that got off on hurting people.

Doesn't excuse or justify anything, just means there was nasty murdering scum on both sides of the fence.

An issue I have with the IRA stuff is that they would tell anyone that would listen that they were soldiers at war. Well there are rules to war, and taking women in the night and murdering them because they'd shown compassion to a wounded British soldier... Well that's kind of outside of the rules. Plus it's just plain nasty and unjustifiable to anyone but the most blinkered fucktards.

And he was British born. Just like the terrorist that actually managed to kill an MP (Jo Cox) last year. Absolutely no difference between the two.

Not likely, beat kept in the past, he did the right thing in the end, blah blah blah.

I am sure you're right. One of many holes in education here. Still doesn't mean that all British people should "face up to" and feel any sort of guilt for what was done in the past by other people. And still doesn't excuse anything.

Are Blanche and Lewis definitely two separate people? I'd ask Blanche directly, but she doesn't respond to anyone, she just continues to past nonsense as if the rest of the thread isn't happening. -

Much as I find these threads quite ammusing, I actually find SSW pretty offensive. Completely dishonest and incapable of proper debate.
