  1. There isn't enough money on the world for emeili thingys' bookings agent The whole thing is almost worth it for that Waterloo sunset. Bliss. Even if ray did look like help-me-boab with a Keith Harris wig
  2. Fazer..: on top of things since 2011
  3. With a light on atticus, with a light on. They all live out that way. You can walk down whole streets of wanstead and not see a civilian car
  4. Chris All fair points and, certainly for me, it was my misreading of what you posted which caused me confusion. I'll certainly be down to try the place out and still hope it will be regular If you are surprised by the amount of cynicism, I'd urge you to try and understand where it comes from. I'm glad that you (and some others) have not had problems with the owner, but many many people have. and we have seen new managers come and go with their promises since but this does sound like a more concerted effort so fingers crossed
  5. disappeared? Clearly you haven't been following the UDT gold on the East London Line thread today
  6. ah well I'll still take a peek cheers halfpenny
  7. sorry halfpenny you have to tell us more - what do you know that is different The new owner was asked directly on page 1 "Will the old management have any involvement? " to which the reply came: Posted by chrisharvey August 06, 10:03PM No - we're all new (and shinny) we actually like people - you will be treated accordingly ------- which re-reading it, is specifically about management rather than ownership. So I'm not saying you are wrong. I'd like to know more tho If this is just yet another new manager promising everything but with his hands tied... hmmm. As someone wrote about the Vale back in 2008, when similar promises were made http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,90434,99041#msg-99041
  8. speaking of odd tho, how come a first time poster with a clown's name posts "Good luck to the new management.Shame there will be no change of ownership. Lets hope they stick to their word to keep away." I thought it was a new owner. Am I wrong or is halfpenny?
  9. Come on Alan, it's not difficult to see this one conversation fell to pub names I suggested the Irish habit of owner's name (McDaids for example) new owner (who has been at pains to point out how removed he is from the previous - and obviously unpopular - owners) cheekily distanced himself from my suggestion I said (very) irish because... well they were. it wasn't just an irish manager, there was a whole murphia in the far corner which even to an irishman like me, seemed a bit offputting It would take malice to see anything untoward in the new owner's comments
  10. Otta: "Big bowls of beef stew with mash would be nice." this times 100. Don't know why more places don't have something easy like this chrisharvey: "our existing pub " whoah... back up. Where is that then? Genuinely curious... (Still liking your general ideas btw)
  11. Chris?s ?nothing Irish? comment was obviously his way of saying the new ownership have nothing to do with the (very) Irish owners of the Vale, rather than being an anti-Irish comment itself. I?m quite excited by the potential for this place and wish them both the best of luck. It?s a big old space tho?, and filling it away from the main drag will take some imagination and flexibility. The Vale wasn?t popular, but it managed to be full on Saturday?s by dint of the fact that it showed live football. I?m not sure I would rule that option out completely The previous incarnation as the Hamlet had old school split Lounge/Bar. I suspect that won?t be reinstated but some kind of partitioning might help ambiance-wise When the main comedy venues at the EDT and the Mag were in full swing they were popular ? attempts to to the same in Nunhead haven?t been so successful, so maybe you could capitalise on that as well The pub?s d?cor needs some warmth ? it has always felt a bit clinical in there. (altho last winter they started using the fireplace properly which helped that corner enormously) Food-wise, have a look at all the other menus not just in ED but Lonodon generally ? and try to offer something a bit different than the risotto/burger/pizza/hummous monopoly. To be fair to the vale, I always thought their menu offered a decent alternative ? it?s not that it was done well, but they did offer an alternative The garden area should be a draw as well ? but the old habit of piping muzak out there usually put me off Plenty of potential tho?. And plenty of people live nearby who would like the option of going to the local pub instead of carrying on to the Lane?
  12. Harvey?s /Hooper?s Is it because they are surnames at all or because they are similar surnames? I like the habit (more common in Ireland anyway) of a pub being just the name of the owner I doubt very much it?ll catch on here but I was just pointing out a preference ? I find naming pubs to be increasingly tortuous. Even New Hamlet Inn seems to be trying too hard
  13. "Harvey's" has a ring to it
  14. moneysavingexpert says teh following: "How much is delivery? There is no additional charge for using a locker, although you won't be able to select free delivery. Shoppers must pay up to ?4.28 per delivery plus up to ?1.73 per item. However, fee-paying Amazon Prime customers will be able to get free one-day and first class delivery to the lockers"
  15. If i had to pick one thing only for a flight... Sticker books all day long Second thing would be videos of bear in big blue house (Jim Henson thing). She goes nuts for that Only on YouTube tho so save them down beforehand
  16. I think that last line is more suggesting that everyone (Nottingham airport, Tom Daley, you, me) ignore tweets like this so they don't get the attention they crave I'm undecided if I agree with that strategy to be honest. But nor do I think the line is blaming Daley for causing the storm per se
  17. sorry Jeremy - in case youdidn't see it before... did you read the link I posted above? ok the "death threats" weren't send directly to Daley, but to other people directly and plenty of faux "everyone deserves a second chance" when people got on his back And I agree with the blogger who is using the episode of an example of "twitter mobs", and as I said earlier maybe* arresting him isn't best way forward BUT he is a fine example of the the type of idot that Admin on here has to deal with. This guy has been reported by many people long before his Daley tweets and is basically pissing in the pool. I can't stand the whole "oh I'm really sorry I'll behave nexttime" bullshit from these guys. Chance after chance after chance is just abused * I say maybe because I actually think this guy could be so disturbed, it won't do much harm to have him in for questioning.
  18. The airport tweet was quite different tho. That was stupid because it wasn't directed in any way towards the "subject" By sending messages repeatedly and offensively directly to your target(s).... That's different in my book. Once you address someone directly (in life, print or social media) you have responsibilities and expectations. If I started posting threats through your mailbox for long enough you'd call the police
  19. Also worth pointing out he has a history of doing this and various people have previously requested twitter take action Not sure arrest is the right way forward but clearly something wrong with the kid
  20. I've seen the tweets but can't remember verbatim. Have a look at @glinner timeline from yesterday evening ish Good version of chronology here as well but can't see if it contains all tweets http://www.archbishop-cranmer.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/rileyy69-aka-reece-of-weymouth-and.html?m=1
  21. I thought direct death threats have always been subject to investigations, no?
  22. Atkinson sequence was aimed more at intrrnational audiences I think. Mr bean is massive everywhere Not saying that's a good thing, but it will have pleased millions
  23. I wonder if the queen is thinking "I wish I hadn't let them talk me out of it... I should have done the jump myself. What a rush it would have been."
