  1. sigh - world gone to the dogs etc. Of course it's been discussed here before (looks like predating Blair - sorry unc) http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,32489,page=1
  2. Still checking in on South London via the forum tho, eh dully? I knew Islington was exciting, but never in my wildest dreams... etc
  3. Nope - I'm all for whatever it takes for an area to be litter-free Litter is a subject that has come up many times on the forum (do a search for erm... "litter") since it started and I've always been pro strong action on littering But given how resistant many litterers are to being fined, and unwilling to change their behaviour, we are still faced with the choice of "do we pick up their mess every time they can't be arsed" - which is very expensive. Or do we accept a clean up job for something as high profile as this?
  4. if only more people paid attention to the rules of the road, eh?
  5. In the name of all that's good and holy... wouldn't you just love to be stuck next to this lot in an old folks home when you can't even get away from them at least Stadler and Waldorf were occassionaly amusing But maybe they are right, maybe we shouldn't scrub up a bit when the world's cameras are pointed at us "But if they can clean up now why don't they clean up all the time???" Beacause the natives are a bunch of ingrates who mess up the place and yet whine intolerably whenever a council tries to change their behaviour by issuing fines
  6. as with anything in life, dodgy operators exist in both the landlord and tenant spheres But references (that you follow up on!) and an interview should allay most concerns
  7. This some funny sheeeet yo http://ow.ly/cnWLn Lego wire
  8. A) you got an answer. See family room moderator response B) what a prize d(sniiiip!! admin)
  9. Carnalistic or Carnell-istic? ;-) I dunno. You still seem to be saying us minds as if it were a homogenous single entity. I know you don't think that way and I'm not trying to be deliberately argumentative or oppositionist Understanding where attitudes come from is important obviously but I think you cede too much to some people on this one. Gun ownership in 2012 isn't as relevant as it was at time of the US cosntitution, nor has it been for sometime. It's ok to say to someone "I know why you feel this way but you are wrong" sometimes isn't it? And rather than mutually nod along and respect each others pov, we can get angry when people die for want of better controls? Isn't it typical of liberal wishy washy ism to understand too much and do too little?
  10. Obviously. But your post came across differently. It came across as people shouldn't even try to repeal gun laws and you are "with" some you quoted out of context Speaking for the American people's (with the caveat you aren't American) support of gun laws/amendment ignores the large number of American people who would like to see it changed Yep, compared to 20 years ago, fewer people in the us want to change gun laws but in middle of economic gloom ( not caused by labour!!) that's a familiar pattern I don't see how that pattern and those feelings will help ongoing problems like this If people want to shout out against gun ownership, I'd be inclined to think that supporting them and showing the NRA who should be calling the shots, is better advice than "we screwed. Be afraid ". (I paraphrase obviously)
  11. Im pretty sure that Gil meant that as a criticism, not as a call to accept a status quo
  12. I'm happy to be corrected karter.
  13. If the rent was that affordable and the landlord that open to persuasion soup dragon would still be there The landlord wants a chain and will get a chain Customers of existing business or aspiring tenants need not apply it seems
  14. "I work very close to Moorgate. If it's early enough (around 7:45) I can save about 5 minutes by getting the tube instead of walking. But there's not much difference." A walk through the city at that hour is surely far preferable to faffing around tube tunnels, for the sake of (maybe) 5 mins? And when I used to work, ther my frame of mind was far better after walking than it was tubing it All bets are off when it's puring down mind you
  15. What? The temporary one that's gone now?
  16. or none that I recall - just tried now and it says "You failed to attach any files, please try again." hmmmm
  17. I use chrome and never had any problem with attachments
  18. Claustrophobic? I suppose the northboundplatform was a bit temporary corridor, but it has opened right up this week. And I know what you mean about the hoardings It's all golden compared to the temporary pedestrian bridge that was at Denmark Hill tho
  19. Blackfriars Station - WAS a fetid series of tiny corridors with no room for people to move between overground and underground stations. NOW it's a bright, airy station with plenty of room to get about, and 2 extra overground platforms. And it's not even finished. The HOB. WAS a nondescript boozer albeit with a decent pinball table. NOW it's one of the best comedy clubs in London and the boozer is slightly more script. Plus you can order or take in food from anywhere else. Bonus Green & Blue site. WAS a good, if slightly overrated cafe, then a very sorry and sad Italian restaurant before becoming one of the best wine shops and bars around
  20. Because a kibbutz set on a farm in Israel has very little in commmon with the market-priced property in central SE22 for a start Because deciding which films to book/show would be a nightmare with such a large deciding body Because you wouldn't get the number of people to commit time and money in the first place the team behind East Dulwich Paradiso cinema club could tell you a few things about what people say the want/will do and then what they actually will do I know I sound negative, and I would REALLY love a cinema close to my house, but it's completely unrealistic for the reasons people have stated
  21. We could have a thousand more "yes please"'s but what Jeremy said should be automatically posted after each one
  22. Many reasons people move out of London but worth noting that if crime is a major driver, further out or villagey doesn't equal safer Chislehurst for example comes off worse than Central Lewisham or Shooters Hill http://www.ukcrimestats.com/Neighbourhood/Metropolitan_Police/Chislehurst#League and significantly worse off than East Dulwich http://www.ukcrimestats.com/Neighbourhood/Metropolitan_Police/East_Dulwich#League
  23. Not long now, not long at all. I have even had a couple of people at work come up to me and ask about it (they saw me in a youtube video at a previous one) A big day ahead
  24. @ eucalyptus i was quoting from an earlier post "Im still amazed why these people arent tracked my card was taken in dulwich the bank must have CCTV and used in Tesco 5 minutes later near peckham rye "
  25. It has happened to my partner, and isn't fun, but some people do seem to get a bit hysterical about this It is neither practical or cost effective to put pictures on every cashpoint with a pic of a skimmer - criminals will constantly change the look of them and render any picture redundant - even if people took the time to read the warning. Which they wouldn't (they don't even take the time to read the options - "Cash with or without receipt? doesn't matter I'll just press with receipt and leave it hanging out of machine anyway? Someone elses problem innit") It's a low-tech crime with an even lower-tech solution. Just shield your hand when you input your pin. That's it. No effort, no fuss CCTV isn't monitored live by a crew of security guards - there isn't a way for people to be "spotted" and then followed to Tescos or whatever.
