  1. What's a good way to foster fanaticism and radicals? Killing hundreds of civilians That will keep things fermenting nicely Just writing the whole thing off as unfixable or bound to end badly is too fatalistic surely People appear to forget just how intransigent the parties were in the situation on these islands were. How many bodies were going missing or blown up At some point someone somewhere will show an act of faith. And it will need brave leaders to act on it. And it will need pressure from extrnal countries Whatever the beliefs of the various neighbouring countries, Israel is behaving abominably. You cannot watch the footage, count the victims on all sides, see the disparity in weapons and say they are all as bad as each other You cannot say well if one behaves badly what do they expect. How does that differ from people who watched the twin towers fall and clucked "well America had it coming" You are watching a country armed to the teeth obliterate children who have ineffective pea shooting rockets. And you are spending your time bitching about twitter and usual suspects and mock outrage?
  2. Surprised you could see her what with ALL THE BOOKS
  3. I buy books too pcg. I promise. And from my local bookshop I hear you spoke with the missus today
  4. Spatster? New login name ahoy!
  5. Slippery when you want to be intcha Events in gaza, on this forum wherever. What's with the mock? And "endlessly congratulating itself" What planet are you on I don't see much congratulation and no mock indignation But you and your high and mighty " I see no debate only argument" when several people have taken efforts to suggest a way forward? This seems to be some weird game for some people.
  6. kindle jobbie
  7. Currently reading Niceville by Carsten Stroud absolutely loving it "as though Elmore Leonard got ahold of a Stephen King manuscript just before it was submitted to the publisher and made some subtle alterations, slightly warping the characters and knocking them off centre"
  8. H: "The fact is Jeremy, mate, is that all the abuse is coming from you." haha - I know he's back on here, and god love him but sometimes Huguenot could be so wrong you don't really do abuse on here Jeremy, do you. And even if you did I can imagine the provocation
  9. "Touch wood he's never been sick yet so I don't suppose some soft fruit will do much harm" It was the sheer amount of sugary fruit sitting heavy onhis stomace I was jokingly referring to - I know he's a good traveller
  10. still - you don't seem to be making better use of your time by vacating this one anyway - I quite enjoyed this one from 2008 Carnelli getting quite het up with me http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,95109,95500#msg-95500 (we hadn't met at that point I don't think)
  11. yup - all good points, well made
  12. just one example and meant as light-hearted contrast to the more serious falling outs that take place
  13. come on V - you've been in enough scraps over the years - any fond memories?
  14. oh PD, I was soo tempted to say something in jest just now, but I baulked when I remembered how often we have fallen out in the past
  15. dangerous precedent argument I can totally see But the penalty for abusing such a strong course of action (taking team off) would surely prove too much for it to be a problem
  16. "It they were being racially abused, then more power to his elbow. It's about time somebody stood up to that sort of crap." Yup - I'm inclined to agree. Noy sure if it was a more prestigous game under more pressure he would have done the same, but good to see it happen all the same
  17. ooh Jeremy got involved too - forgot about that
  18. As quids has pointed out on another thread, there have been some genuinely unpleasant ones But every so often one breaks out that's surprising and amusing I remember this one between Mockney Piers and *Bob* about... audio fidelity of all things http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,381308,381996#msg-381996
  19. So what do people make of Vieira calling his Man City U21 team off the pitch after the alleged racis abuse in Croatia?
  20. "Against a generalisatio, plenty; against an individual poster, very rarely - although in 10k posts there are a few instances I suspect.... " but has it happened here? on this thread - against you?
  21. as we are repeating questions tho' ""the simplistic anti-isareli position is, at best, simplistic and sometime smacks of something altogether more sinister......." did we ever find out what exactly the "something altogether more sinister" was?" no I didn't attend the march on Saturday - point being?
  22. "Just for clarity, are you calling Quids a lunatic, or does that just read wrong? " yeah you did read that wrong - it was a reference to leaders of extreme orgs like IRA and Hamas with their "until we achieve 100% of our goals" rhetoric "but nothing will be done about borders, water, healthcare and the rest as long as fighting continues. " well why not? It's a choice surely? There have been long periods of no rocket activity over the years - nothing much seems to change for teh Palestinians tho quids - i remeber that one and I seem to recall a hasty apology and acceptance between you two. bringing it up again now seems a bit off? Plus you are no stranger to innacurate, spittle-flecked unpleasantness yourself on here ?
  23. bigger picture Loz, bigger picture
  24. "Just to note that Iron Dome destroys over 90% of the rockets fired by Hamas. They do no damage at all. And looking at the casualty count that continues to be borne out. Israel's air-strikes on the other hand...." which feeds into my suggestion a few posts back I'll be interested when it all comes out just how extensive the Hamas tunnels are as well
