  1. No Faaal's were tried as far as I am aware but with at least 3 chilli addicts in our midst a hot one was tried by someone. A few people have suggested a curry with a difference next time. How about Buddah Jazz? Next to the George Canning Pub on Denmark Hill. It serves Thai/Vietnamese food, my experience of food and service has always been very positive. On the Buddah Jazz menu item 69 is the "BJ Special". I havent tried it yet ... What do you think? (Edited following the wise words of guidance from Jah Lush)
  2. Great night indeed - there was some confusion with who had ordered what and they were a little overwhelmed - but with a ?500 bill, the Manager was happy. I think that we may need to start eating earlier, it does take time to deal with large groups and so we did finishing late. I fell into bed at about 12 stuffed to the brim. Thanks all.
  3. The packet does actually say "Contains just milk, eggs, flour and a pinch of salt, but no nuts, as that would be distasteful"
  4. Dulwichmum said "If I collapse, those big burley men will carry me off on a stretcher no doubt (swoon" Are there a large number of them? Will they be wearing surgical supports? Have they received training in lifting heavy weights?
  5. Hmmm, who is an Englishman to support - the Frogs or the Taffs? Hmmm ... ALEZ LES BLEUS!!!
  6. God help you if you wanted a Biriani
  7. "NO NO !! I am currently only taking orders for hot towels.."
  8. We could be filling the place at this rate.
  9. Table booked for 8.30 tomorrow. They were a bit twitchy about numbers and the time, so I suggest we there a bit earlier. After a pint at the FHT though.
  10. They are easy to prepare. Buy a packet from Sainsburys, place in microwave, heat, eat.
  11. Werther's Original CitizenED?
  12. Jeremy Bowen at Sainsburys on Sunday. This is the truth. He was wearing an anti-rat flak jacket. That may be a lie.
  13. As an older poster i would say: Much of what is discussed now has been discussed in the past, probably 2 or 3 times. That is fine but for those who have been around for a while, there is nothing new to say. There are so many new threads and posts that it is difficult to keep on top of things, I dip in and out of things which I think may be interesting, many threads I just dont read. We seem to have some tossers who are posting dross and i cant be bothered with them. I know quite a few people on and through the forum, so much of my communication with them is by phone, text, email, facebook or over a drink.
  14. I have put alink to an Omrith review and map in my post yesterday. Thanks all - anybody else?
  15. Its about 14 so far .. On Wednesday 25/2 we will be sitting down in Omrith at 8.30 but meeting for a sharpener in the Forest Hill Tavern next door at 7.30. Could all those who will actually be able to come please signify in the usual and approved manner? Could those of you sitting their with your hands in the air please stop. I cant see you, but you will be looking silly. Place your hands upon the keyboard and go tippy-tappy. I will book the table tomorrow evening, Omrith isnt huge so to be fair to them I need to book a more or less accurate number. Namaste Darlings!
  16. Is it the uniform? The truncheons?
  17. "Rozzers drink Lattes" .. and they are getting younger and shorter.
  18. This "it was better in my day" perspective is generally a load of old cock. Places change and no doubt in 20 years time, todays blow-ins will be bemonaing the changes to ED that they have seen. Have we gentrified a tad? Probably, but the place needed it. We have shootings, massage parlours, sex shops, road-hogging, nutters and all manner of social ills, so dont go round saying that ED is a nice, safe middle class area. I shall go back to polishing my barrel, before rolling it out.
  19. Keef said "Or it's just because people from Dulwich are lazy and do no work" Weren't you starting a new job today Keef? ED is quite a small geographical area, so most people know what is being discussed when a topic is raised, so it is easier to feel part of the group. SE1 is a big area in comparison. Also the Forum is quite liberal in what is discussed and posted. Some like the SE23 are draconian in their censoring of things that they dont feel are relevant and so stifle wider ranging debate. Also we are East Dulwich and so are special.
  20. This is true, only last week on the train I was pounced upon by a 6'6'' Brickie who attempted to foist Krispi Kreme donuts on me. I resisted manfully. Who were they for DM? You were rather coy when quizzed on the matter ..
  21. I too am on Metformin and a blood pressure pill and I suspect that at some point a statin will be included in the mix. Isnt middle age marvellous ..
  22. I have type 2 diabetes. The Gardens Surgery has a great Diabetes specialist nurse and I suspect other GP practices will have the same. You can keep it at bay, but it requires you to cut out alcohol and sugary foods, fruit juices, limit the amount of fresh fruit you eat (3 pieces per day) and look at the ingredients tables when you buy food. Aim for less that 10g of sugar per 100g of content. It is frightening to see that so much of what we eat consists of 25% plus of sugar. Complex, unrefined foods are better as your body has time to break down the food and deal with it effectively. Quick hit, refined foods overload the body with sugar too quickly. Thus fresh orange = OK, orange juice = not OK. Weight is a big issue, cut out fatty foods and lose weight. However the health professionals do tend to be a bit unrealistic and preachy in my opinion and would have you eating raw oats and water, followed by a 20 mile run everyday. My GP's dietitian was more realistic and suggested that an occasional treat was OK, so I have a drink occasionally. Otherwise its Diet Coke and soda water with lime. Its a pain at time, but what is the alternative? Full blown, uncontrolled diabetes = blindness, foot problems leading to amputation, heart attacks, strokes and early death. Such things are quite motivational.
  23. You cant keep chickens AND worms Strawbs, just think about how the food-chain works.
  24. Is this bowling crown-green or flat? Can you hire woods or do you need your own? Are whites obligatory? Not that I know anything about bowling.
  25. Leagle-eaglish had chickens but they got scoffed by a fox. Chickens attract rats and foxes and are chomped by both. You are better off keeping a small pack of hounds. Hunting Foxy across Peckham Rye would be marvellous.
